Congratulations on purchasing a laser rangender that is tested, proven and endorsed by one of the most well
known hunting teams.
When the leader in laser rangender technology teams up with the world’s most successful call maker, its all
about ensuring the hunting experience of a lifetime. We proudly introduce the new Bushnell THE TRUTH laser
rangender, approved by Team Primos! is laser rangender is lightweight, compact, and extremely fast. THE
TRUTH outshines other rangenders from tree stands and steep terrain thanks to Angle Range Compensation
(ARC). Hit the FIRE button and it calculates the “shoots-like” distance based on the angle of your shot. Featuring
Bow Mode, this unit displays line-of-sight, angle, and true horizontal distance from 7-199 yards, so you always know
what pin to use. Rie hunters dont worry, THE TRUTH will accurately provide line of sight distance from 7-850
yards.

INTRODUCTION
Your BUSHNELL
®
THE TRUTH
laser rangender is a precision instrument designed to provide many years of
enjoyment. is booklet will help you achieve optimum performance by explaining its adjustments and features as
well as how to care for this precise laser rangending instrument. To ensure optimal performance and longevity, please
read these instructions before using your THE TRUTH laser rangender.
HOW IT WORKS
THE TRUTH
emits invisible, eye safe, infrared energy pulses. e Advanced Digital microprocessor and ASIC chip
(Application-Specic Integrated Circuit) results in instantaneous and accurate readings every time. Sophisticated
digital technology instantaneously calculates distances by measuring the time it takes for each pulse to travel from the
rangender, to the target, and back.
RANGING ACCURACY
e ranging accuracy of the THE TRUTH is plus or minus one yard/meter under most circumstances. e maximum
range of the instrument depends on the reectivity of the target. e maximum distance for most objects is 600 yards/549
meters, while for highly reective objects the maximum is 850 yards 777 meters, and 200 yards/183 meters to a deer
sized animal. Note: You will get both longer and shorter maximum distances depending on the reective properties
of the particular target and the environmental conditions at the time the distance of an object is being measured.
e color, surface nish, size and shape of the target all aect reectivity and range. e brighter the color, the longer
the range. White is highly reective, for example, and allows longer ranges than the color black, which is the least
reective color. A shiny nish provides more range than a dull one. A small target is more dicult to range than a
larger target. e angle to the target also has an eect. Shooting to a target at a 90 degree angle (where the target
surface is perpendicular to the ight path of the emitted energy pulses) provides good range while a steep angle on
the other hand, provides limited ranging. In addition, lighting conditions (e.g. the amount of sunlight) will aect
202442-TruthwClearShotLRF_5LIM_021216.indd 5 2/12/16 4:42 PM
6
the ranging capabilities of the unit. e less light (e.g. overcast skies) the farther the units maximum range will be.
Conversely, very sunny days will decrease the unit’s maximum range.
GETTING STARTED
INSERTING THE BATTERY
Remove the Posi-read™ battery door by lifting the battery door tab and then rotating counter clockwise. Insert a
CR-2 3-volt lithium battery into the compartment positive end rst, then replace the battery cap.
NOTE: It is recommended that the battery be replaced at least once every 12 months.
OPERATIONAL SUMMARY
While looking through the 4x eyepiece, depress the power button once to activate the in-view Liquid Crystal Display
(LCD). Place the aiming circle (located in the center of the eld of view) upon a target at least 7 yards away, depress and
hold the power button down until the range reading is displayed near the bottom of the in-view display. Crosshairs
surrounding the aiming circle indicate that the laser is being transmitted. Once a range has been acquired, you can
release the power button. e crosshairs surrounding the aiming circle will disappear once the power button has been
released or a distance has been displayed (i.e. the laser is no longer being transmitted). Note: Once activated, the LCD
will remain active and display the last distance measurement for 30 seconds. You can depress the power button again
at any time to distance to a new target. As with any laser device, it is not recommended to directly view the emissions
for long periods of time with magnied lenses. e maximum time the laser is transmitted (red) is 10 seconds. To
re-re, press the button down again.

LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY (LCD) INDICATORS
THE TRUTH
features a Perma Focus monocular optical system for viewing your target. A liquid crystal display
(LCD) is mounted within the optical system and when activated, displays unit of measure, a reticle for targeting, when
the laser is actively ring, when a target has been acquired, and a battery life indicator. Inherent in the manufacturing
process are small black spots that appear in the optical system. ese are a natural characteristic of the LCD and
cannot be fully eliminated in the manufacturing process. ey do not aect the distancing performance of the unit. A
summary of these features is presented below.
UNIT OF MEASURE OPTIONS
THE TRUTH
can be used to measure distances in yards or meters. e unit of measure
indicators are located in the lower right portion of the LCD. To select your preference (Y or
M), start by pressing the power button briey to turn on the display. While looking through
the eyepiece, hold down the Plus OR Minus button on the side of the unit for a few seconds
until the display changes to “SET” (right). Press the Plus or Minus button to toggle back and
forth between Yards and Meters. Once your desired unit of measure is displayed, press and
release the power button 3 times (or proceed to calibrate for your bowsight-see pages 8-9). e
device will return to the last unit of measure setting used each time the unit is turned on.
RETICLE FOR TARGETING OBJECTS
Place the aiming circle (located in the center of the eld of view) upon a target at least 7 yards away, depress and hold
the power button down until the range reading is displayed near the bottom of the in-view display.
ACTIVE LASER
Crosshairs surrounding the aiming circle indicate that the laser is being transmitted. Once a range has been acquired,
you can release the power button. e crosshairs surrounding the circle will disappear once the power button has been
released or a distance has been displayed (i.e. the laser is no longer being transmitted).

BATTERY LIFE INDICATOR
Low Battery Indicator: If “ “ is displayed within the in-view readout, this means “low
battery” or battery charge is getting low and the 3-volt lithium battery should be replaced.
ARC FEATURE / BOW MODE
ARC (Angle Range Compensation): In addition to all of the features described above, THE TRUTH is an advanced
premium laser rangender featuring a built-in accelerometer-based inclinometer that digitally displays the exact angle
from -90 to +90 degrees of elevation and is +/- 1.0 degree accurate.
e THE TRUTH
solves a problem hunters have been faced with for years. e problem: hunters have struggled
with extreme uphill and downhill angles because of how these angles alter true horizontal distance to your target. e
Solution: ARC’s integrated inclinometer provides elevation angle to allow for distance compensation when targeting
objects that are either uphill or downhill.
Bow Mode: Displays line of sight distance, degree of elevation, and true distance range from 7-199 yards / meters and
a maximum inclination of +/- 90°.
Once the range is displayed, continue to hold the POWER button down for approximately 2 seconds while holding
the aiming circle on the object and keeping the unit as steady as possible so as to allow the inclinometer enough time
to measure angle. en release the POWER button. Once you have released the power button, a degree of angle and
compensated range will be displayed (alternating) beneath the line of sight distance as seen in the example on pg. 9.
When line of sight distances from 7-199 yards are displayed, the rangender is in “Bow Mode”, and the angle and
a compensated distance will also automatically be displayed. If distances greater than 199 yards are displayed, the
compensated distances will no longer be displayed, only the angle.

BOW MODE EXAMPLE
In the example on the right, line of sight is 32 yards, angle is -44 degrees, and the Angle
Range Compensated distance is 23 yards. e ARC distance represents “shoot as,” so instead
of shooting as 32 yards, shoot as 23 yards. If you were to shoot as if 32 yards, you would
shoot over the top of your intended target because of the severe angle.
e line of sight distance will display in the primary numeric display and the inclination
(angle) and horizontal distance (ARC) will alternately display in the secondary numeric
display area below it. Bushnell
®
determined through extensive testing and interviews with
high-prole bow hunting experts that multiple bow ballistic groups were not necessary. Bow-
hunters want to know true horizontal distance because that is how they practice shooting,
and once they condently know that, they can make any necessary adjustments. Giving the
bow-hunter anything else other than horizontal distance creates additional confusion and
uncertainty.
Many people mistakenly believe that uphill shots perform dierently from downhill shots
because of gravity. However, it is not due to gravity, but more of an aberration of the sighting system used on bows.
e sighting pin on a bow resides several inches above the mechanical axis of the arrow. For example, when one is
aiming 23 degrees up an incline, the arrow is at a dierent angle.
NOTE: We took the most commonly used features and included them all in a simple to use, one button operation device. is
laser rangender always functions in Bow mode from 7-199 yards. e device will provide line of sight distance only when
objects greater than 199 yards are acquired.

ABOUT CLEARSHOT TECHNOLOGY
e Truth with ClearShot® technology provides
instantaneous feedback on your shot clearance. is
advanced laser technology takes the guess out of
archery shots, even allowing hunters the ability to no
longer worry about clipping branches or hitting other
obstructions. And with a simple process, you can
calibrate the rangender to correspond with the speed
of the bow through the sight system. When done and a
target is ranged, a dot/line is displayed to show the max
height your arrow will travel.
e Truth with ClearShot® ranges out to 850 yards with a “shoots like” distance of 200 yards. And it even shows the
angle of your shot in the process. All that, combined with our exclusive Angle Range Compensation (ARC), make this
the ultimate rangender for bow hunters.
CALIBRATING CLEARSHOT
TO YOUR BOW SIGHT
A paper ClearShot calibration sheet is provided with your rangender (additional sheets are available at www.bushnell.
com). If your bow sight has 20 and 40 yard/meter pins, use the “20 PIN/40 PIN” side of the sheet, if it has 20 and
60y/m pins, use the “20 PIN/60 PIN” side. Fasten the calibration sheet to a wall, tree, etc. at a height that is level with
your bow sight when holding your bow normally at a distance of about 10 yards from the sheet.
Next, follow these steps to calibrate the rangender for your specic bow:
1. Start with your bow at a distance of approximately 10 yards/meters from the calibration sheet.
2. In shooting position, move forward or backward until your 20 and 40 yard/meter bow sight pins (or 20 and
60 yard/meter pins if using the other side of the sheet) are lined up with the 20 and 40 PIN targets on the
calibration sheet (20 and 60 PIN targets if using the other side of the sheet).

3. Remaining at this distance, activate the rangender by briey pressing the Power button. Next, hold down the
Plus OR Minus button on the side of the unit until the display changes to “SET” (allows selection of Yards or
Meters) (Fig. 1). Press the Power button to change the display to “CAL”-you are now in calibration mode, with
a “40” or “60” ashing at the bottom of the display (Fig. 2). If your bow sight has a 40 Yard/Meter Pin, select
“40” using the Plus/Minus buttons. If your sight has a 60 Y/M pin, select “60”.
4. Press the Power button again. e display will ash “C5” (or “C” with a dierent number) (Fig. 3). Align the
rangender’s center circle with the “40 PIN” target on the calibration sheet (“60 PIN” target if using the other
side of the sheet).
5. Press the Plus or Minus button until the solid dot/line on the vertical scale of the rangender is aligned with
the “20 PIN” mark on the calibration sheet (with the center circle still on the 40 or 60 PIN mark) (Fig. 4).
Note the “C” (calibration) reference number, especially if you use multiple bows or sights. Once calibrated, you
can quickly return to the correct setting for that bow/sight by selecting this reference number when you use it.
6. e calibration process is complete. Press the Power button to exit and return the rangender to normal
operation.
Once calibrated, if you re the rangender and see a line/dot indicator above the aiming circle, it represents the highest
point in the trajectory your arrow will follow. is will help you determine if there are any obstacles in its path, or if
you have a “clear shot”.

TROUBLE SHOOTING
If unit does not turn on – LCD does not illuminate:
Depress POWER button.
Check and if necessary, replace battery.
If unit powers down (display goes blank when attempting to power the laser):
• e battery is either weak or low quality. Replace the battery with a good quality
3 -volt lithium battery.
If target range cannot be obtained:
• Make sure LCD is illuminated.
• Make sure that the power button is being depressed.
Make sure that nothing, such as your hand or nger, is blocking the objective lenses (lenses closest
to the target) that emit and receive the laser pulses.
• Make sure unit is held steady while depressing power button.
NOTE: e last range reading does not need to be cleared before ranging another target. Simply aim at the new target
using the LCD’s reticle, depress the power button and hold until new range reading is displayed.
