1 Safety notes
Read the operating instructions before commissioning.
Connection, mounting, and setting may only be performed by trained spe‐
cialists.
Not a safety component in accordance with the EU Machinery Directive.
Power supply: Class 2
UL Environmental Rating: Enclosure type 1
When commissioning, protect the device from moisture and contamination.
These operating instructions contain information required during the life cycle of
the sensor.
2 Intended Use
Capacitive proximity sensors are suitable for detecting solid or liquid materials. This
includes all metals and non-metallic substances.
Application possibilities include:
- Injection molding machines, e.g. adhesives, plastic granulate
- Chemical industry, e.g. water preparation, acid and alkaline solutions, solvents
- Wood industry, e.g. wood, sawdust, paper
- Ceramics and glass industry, e.g. quartz sand, bottle monitoring
- Packaging industry, e.g. packages, fill level monitoring, animal feed, dairy products,
fruit and vegetables
The ability of capacitive proximity sensors to detect materials depends on the object’s
density and electrical properties. The sensing range given for capacitive proximity sen‐
sors relates to a measuring plate of standardized steel (ST37). You can find additional
information about material reduction factors under “Technical Information”.
If changes are made to the product, any warranty claim against SICK AG shall become
void.

4 Mounting
Mount the sensor using a suitable mounting bracket (see the SICK range of accesso‐
ries).
Mount the sensor in the desired position aligned towards the object to detect. The sens‐
ing face is on the front side of the metric sensor. Check that the distance to the object
to be detected is within the sensing range.
Take application conditions such as sensing range and mutual interference into consid‐
eration:

5 Electrical Installation
The sensors must be connected in a voltage-free state (U
V
= 0 V). The following informa‐
tion must be observed, depending on the connection type:
Only apply voltage/switch on the voltage supply (U
V
> 0 V) once all electrical connec‐
tions have been established. The green LED indicator lights up on the sensor.

7 Disassembly and disposal
The sensor must be disposed of according to the applicable country-specific regula‐
tions. Efforts should be made during the disposal process to recycle the constituent
materials (particularly precious metals).
8 Maintenance
SICK sensors are maintenance-free.
We do, however, recommend that the following activities are undertaken regularly:
Clean the active detection surface
Check the screw connections and plug connectors
No modifications may be made to devices.
