INTENDED USE

Thedisplayunits detailedinthishandbook may form part of navigational

radarsystems intended for lightmarineuse.Thesedisplays and radar

systems are only an aid to navigation.

SAFETY NOTICES

Thisradarequipmentmustbeinstalled and operatedinaccordancewiththe

instructionscontained in thismanual.Failuretodosocanresultinpersonal

injuryand/ornavigationalinaccuracies.Inparticular:

1.HIGHVOLTAGE.TheLCDdisplayunitandscannerunitcontain

highvoltages.Adjustmentsrequirespecializedserviceproceduresand

toolsonly availableto qualifiedservicetechnicians– thereareno user

serviceablepartsoradjustments.The operatorshouldnever removethe

displayunitcoverorattempttoservicethe equipment.

2.ELECTROMAGNETICENERGY.Theradarscannertransmits

electromagneticenergy. Itisimportantthat theradaris turnedoffwhenever

personnelarerequired to come closeto the scannertoperform work on the

scannerassemblyor associatedequipment.

Itisrecommendedthattheradarscannerismountedoutofrangeofpersonnel

(abovehead height).

Avoidlookingdirectlyattheantennaasyoureyesarethemostsensitivepartof

thebody to electromagnetic energy.

Whenproperlyinstalledandoperated,theuseofthisradarwillconformtothe

requirementsofANSI/IEEEC95.1-1992StandardforSafety Levelswith

RespecttoHumanExposuretoRadioFrequencyElectromagneticFields,3Hz

to300GHzandNRPB,BoardStatementonRestrictionsonHumanExposure

toStaticandTimeVaryingElectromagneticFieldsandRadiation.DocNRPB,

N0.5 (1993).

4.NAVIGATIONAID.Thisunitisonlyanaidtonavigation.Itsaccuracycan

beaffectedby many factors,includingequipment failureor defects,

environmentalconditions,andimproperhandlingor use. It is the user’s

• Chartdisplay,Radardisplay:If data is availableas a functionof the

combineddisplayunit it canbe displayed fullscreen,as shown in

Figure 1-2,or in a half-screenwindow.

• CDI:This gives theCourseDeviationIndicatorgraphicaldisplay, with

datarelatingto the targetwaypoint.

• BDI:ThisgivestheBearingandDistanceIndicatorgraphicaldisplay,with

datarelatingto the targetwaypoint.

• NavData: Thisshowsninedata boxes,providingnavigationaldatainthe

unitsspecifiedinyoursetup. Note that upto6 ofthesedata boxes arealso

available asa user-selectablegroup (see Section 7.3).
