Power Source

Whenever convenient, use the mains cable if you want to conserve battery life. Make sure you

remove the plug from the unit and mains socket before inserting batteries.

Battery Power

1. Open the battery door and insert 6 batteries, type UM-2 or C-cells (not included) with the

correct polarity as indicated by the “+” and “–” symbols inside the compartment.

2. Replace the battery door making sure the batteries are rmly and correctly in place. The

unit is now ready to operate.

Handling the Batteries

• Improper or incorrect use of batteries may cause corrosion or battery leakage, which could

cause personal injury or damage to property.

• Install the batteries correctly by following the polarity (+ and –) indications in the battery

compartment.

• Use only the types of the batteries which are indicated in this manual.

• Do not install new batteries with used ones and do not mix dierent types of batteries.

• Do not dispose of the used batteries as domestic waste. Dispose of them in accordance with

local regulations.

• If you are not going to use the unit for a long time, remove the batteries to avoid damage

from battery leakage and corrosion.

Always switch the unit o after use to conserve the battery life.

1. Check that the power voltage shown on the rating label located on the bottom of the

unit, corresponds to your local power supply. If it does not, consult your dealer or service

centre.

2. Connect the mains cable to the ~AC IN socket and the mains socket. The unit is now

connected and ready for use.

3. To switch the unit o completely, withdraw the mains cable from the mains socket.

4. Install the unit near a mains socket where the mains plug can be easily reached.

Mains Power

Using Earphones

Turn down the volume before connecting the earphones. Slowly raise the volume with the

earphones on until you reach your desired volume. When earphones are connected, the

speaker is automatically disabled.

Always check you have completely switched o the unit, before you change or

disconnect the power supply.

Disconnect the mains cable from the mains socket to protect your unit during

heavy thunderstorms. Children could seriously injure themselves as the free end of

the cable may still be live if only the connector is removed from the mains socket at

the back of the unit.

Long-term exposure to loud music may cause hearing damage. It if best to avoid

extreme volume when using earphones, especially for extended periods.

General Operation

Switching the Unit On/O and Selecting the Function

1. To switch on and select your operation source, set the FUNCTION selector to CD or

RADIO.

2. To switch o the unit, set the FUNCTION selector to TAPE (OFF) position.

Adjusting the Volume and Sound

Adjust the volume with the VOLUME control.

Radio Reception

1. Set the FUNCTION selector to RADIO.

2. Set the BAND selector to select your desired waveband, AM, FM or FM Stereo.

3. Turn the TUNING control to tune to a radio station.

For Better Reception

FM - This unit has a FM aerial located on the top of the main unit. This wire should be

extended and rotated for better reception.

AM - This unit is equipped with a built-in directional ferrite AM aerial. Reorient the unit around

to get a better reception.

To avoid unnecessary energy consumption, always set the FUNCTION selector

to TAPE (OFF) after using the unit.

• MP3, CD-ROM, CD-I, CDV, VCD, DVD or computer CDs are not possible for

playback.

• CDs encoded with copyright protection technologies by some record companies

may be unplayable by this unit.

Playing a CD

1. Set the FUNCTION selector to CD.

2. Open the CD door, and insert a CD with the printed side facing

up, then press the CD door gently to close it. The total number of

tracks on the disc will show in the display.

• If there is no disc inside or the CD door is not closed,

“ ” will show in the display.

3. Press the PLAY/PAUSE button to start playback, the rst

track will be played. The number of the currently playing track

will show in the display.

4. To pause playback, press the PLAY/PAUSE button. The “ ”

will ash continuously in the display. To resume playback, press

the PLAY/PAUSE button again.

5. To stop the CD playback, press the STOP button.

Selecting a Dierent Track

• Press the BACK or NEXT button once or repeatedly until the desired track number

appears in the display.

Finding a Passage within a Track

1. During playback, press and hold the BACK or NEXT button. The CD is played at

high speed and with reduced volume.

2. When you recognise the passage you want, release the BACK or NEXT button to

resume normal playback.

Programming Track Numbers

You may store up to 20 tracks in the desired sequence. Be sure to press the STOP button

before use to ensure no prior program has been set.

2. Press the BACK or NEXT button to select your desired

track number.

3. Press the PROG. button to store the desired track number.

4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 to enter additional tracks into the program

memory. When the memory is full, “ ” will ash in the display.

5. To play your program, press the PLAY/PAUSE button. The

Erasing a Program

In stop mode, you can erase the contents of the memory by pressing the STOP button or by

opening the CD door. The “

Reviewing the Program

In stop mode, press the PROG. button to display your stored tracks.

Repeat Mode

You can play the current track or the whole disc repeatedly with program mode.

• During the playback, press the REPEAT button once to repeat the single track. The “

• Press the REPEAT button twice to repeat the whole disc. The “

Cassette Recorder

Cassette Playback

1. Set the FUNCTION selector to TAPE (OFF).

2. Press the button to open the cassette door. Insert a cassette and close the cassette

door.

3. Press the button to start playback.

4. To pause playback, press the button. To resume playback, press the button again.

5. To stop the tape, press the button.

Fast Forwarding/Rewinding

1. Press the buttons until you reach your desired passage.

2. Press the button to stop fast forwarding/rewinding.

• The keys are automatically released at the end of a tape and the

unit is switched of (unless the PAUSE mode has been activated.)

• During fast forwarding/rewinding, the key will not be released at

the end of a tape. To switch o the set, make sure the cassette keys

are also released.

General Information on Cassette Recording

• Recording is permissible in so far as copyright or other rights of third parties are not

infringed.

• This cassette player is not suitable for recording on CHROME (IEC II) or METAL (IEC IV) type

cassettes. For recording, use NORMAL type cassettes (IEC I) on which the tabs have not been

broken.

• The best recording level is set automatically. Altering the VOLUME control will not aect the

recording in progress.

• No recording will take place on the rst 7 seconds and last 7 seconds of the cassette tape.

• To protect a tape from accidental erasure, have the tape in front of you and break out the

left lab.

• Recording on this side is no longer possible. To record over this side again, cover the tabs

with a piece of adhesive tape.

Recording from the Radio

1. Tune to the desired radio station.

2. Press the button to open the cassette door.

3. Insert a suitable cassette into the cassette compartment and close the cassette door.

4. Press the button and the button at the same time to start recording.

5. To pause the recording, press the cassette button. To resume recording, press the

button again.

6. To stop recording, press the cassette button.

Recording from a CD

1. Set the FUNCTION selector to CD.

2. Insert the CD you want to record.

3. Insert a suitable cassette into the cassette compartment and close the cassette door.

4. Press the button and the button at the same time to start recording.

5. To pause the recording, press the CD PLAY/PAUSE button. The recording level is set

automatically.

6. To stop recording, press the cassette button for cassette.

Maintenance

Handling Discs

• Do not touch the playback side of the disc.

• Do not attach paper or tape to the disc.

Cleaning Discs

• Fingerprints and dust on the disc cause picture and sound deterioration. Wipe the disc from

the centre outwards with a soft cloth. Always keep the disc clean.

• If you cannot wipe o the dust with a soft cloth, wipe the disc lightly with a slightly

moistened soft cloth and nish with a dry cloth.

• Do not use any type of solvent such as thinner, benzine, commercially available cleaners or

antistatic spray. They may damage the disc.

Storing Discs

• Do not store discs in places subjected to direct sunlight or near heat sources.

• Do not store discs in places subjected to moisture and dust such as a bathroom or near a

humidier.

• Storing discs vertically in a case, stacking discs or placing objects on discs outside of their

cases may cause warping.

Hints and Tips

If a problem does occur, it may often be due to something very minor. The following table

contains various tips.

Problem Cause / Solution

No sound / power • Volume not adjusted. Adjust the volume.

• Mains cable not securely connected. Connect the mains cable

properly.

• Batteries dead/incorrectly inserted. Insert (fresh) batteries correctly.

• CD contains non-audio les. Press the buttons once or more

to skip to a CD audio track, instead of the data le.

Display does not

function properly

/ No reaction to

operation of any of

the controls

• Electrostatic discharge. Switch o and unplug the unit. Reconnect

after a few seconds.

• No CD inserted. Insert a CD.

• CD badly scratched or dirty. Replace or clean the CD, see

Maintenance.

• Laser lens steamed up. Wait until lens has cleared.

• CD-R / CD-RW is blank or not nalized. Use a nalized CD-R / CD-RW

or a suitable CD Audio disc only.

• Make sure the CD is not encoded with Copyright protection

technologies, as some do not conform to the Compact Disc

standard.

The CD skips tracks • CD damaged or dirty. Replace or clean CD.

• Program is active. Quit program mode.

• A badly scratched or dirty CD may result in improper operation.

Poor Cassette

Sound Quality

• Dust or dirt on the heads, etc. Clean cassette compartment parts,

see Maintenance.

• Use of incompatible cassette types (METAL or CHROME). Only use

NORMAL (IECI) for recording.

Recording does not

work

• Cassette tab(s) may be broken. Apply adhesive tape over the

missing tab space.

Safety Warnings

• Read all the instructions carefully before

using the unit and keep them for future

reference.

onto a third party make sure to include this

Damage

• Please inspect the unit for damage after

unpacking.

• Do not continue to operate the unit if you

are in any doubt about it working normally,

or if it is damaged in any way - switch o,

withdraw the mains plug and consult your

dealer.

Location of Unit

• The unit must be placed on a at stable

surface and should not be subjected to

vibrations.

• Do not place the unit on sloped or unstable

surfaces as the unit may fall o or tip over.

• The mains socket must be located near the

unit and should be easily accessible.

• This unit is designed for indoor use only.

Temperature

• Avoid extreme degrees of temperature,

either hot or cold. Place the unit well away

from heat sources such as radiators or gas/

electric res.

• Avoid exposure to direct sunlight and other

sources of heat.

Naked Flames

• Never place any type of candle or naked

ame on the top of or near the unit.

Moisture

• To reduce the risk of re, electric shock or

product damage, do not expose this unit

to rain, moisture, dripping or splashing. No

objects lled with liquids, such as vases,

should be placed on the unit.

• If you spill any liquid into the unit, it can

cause serious damage. Switch it o at the

mains immediately. Withdraw the mains

plug and consult your dealer.

Ventilation

• To prevent the risk of electric shock or re

hazard due to overheating, ensure that

curtains and other materials do not obstruct

the ventilation vents.

• Do not install or place this unit in a

bookcase, built-in cabinet or in another

conned space. Ensure the unit is well

ventilated.

Safety

• Always disconnect the unit from the mains

other devices or moving the unit.

Mains Cable

• Make sure the unit or unit stand is not

resting on top of the mains cable, as the

to avoid a hazard.

Interference

• Do not place the unit on or near appliances

which may cause electromagnetic

interference. If you do, it may adversely

aect the operating performance of the unit,

and cause a distorted picture or sound.

Batteries

• Batteries used in the unit are easily

swallowed by young children and this is

dangerous.

• Keep loose batteries away from young

children and make sure that the battery

holder tray is secure in the unit. Seek

medical advice if you believe a cell has been

swallowed.

• Please dispose of batteries correctly by

following the guidance in this manual.

Earphones

• Listening to loud sounds for prolonged

periods of time may permanently damage

your hearing.

• Before putting on earphones, turn the

volume down then put the earphones on

and slowly increase the volume until you

reach a comfortable listening level.

Supervision

• Children should be supervised to ensure

that they do not play with the unit and the

remote control.

• Never let anyone especially children push

anything into the holes, slots or any other

openings in the case - this could result in a

fatal electric shock.

• Before moving the unit, ensure the disc tray

is empty.
