Charging batteries for the first time
Beforeyou start to use your telephonemakesure that all batteries are fully charged for
16 hours.
Important note:
This telephone is not designed for Emergencycalls when themains power fails.
For Emergency calls you should havea basic phone thatoperateswithoutmains power,
connectedtoyour line so thatyoucan make calls during apower failure.

Introduction
CAUTION: When using telephone equipment,there are basic safetyinstructions that
should always be followed. Refer to theImportantsafety instructions section in this users
guide for more information.
IMPORTANT: Since cordless phones operate onelectricity, youare suggested to have
at leastonephone in your home thatis not cordless,in case ofpoweroutage.
Important Installation Guidelines
Avoidsources ofnoise and heat, such as motors,fluorescent lighting, microwave ovens,
heating appliances and direct sunlight.
Avoidareas ofexcessive dust,moisture andlow temperature.
Avoidother cordless telephones or personal computers.
Never install telephone wiring during a lightning storm.
Never install telephone jacks in wet locations unless thejack is specifically designed for
wet locations.
Never touchnon-insulated telephone wires orterminals, unless the telephone line has
been disconnectedatthenetwork interface.
Use caution when installing or modifying telephone lines.
Telephone base and charger installation
1. Plugthesmaller end ofthepower adapter intothepower jack atthebottomof the
telephone base.
2. Plugone endofthetelephone line into the jack atthebottom ofthetelephone base.
3.Plug the other end ofthe telephone line into a telephone wall jack.
4.Plug the larger end ofthe power adapter intoan electrical outlet not
controlled by a wall switch.If youhaveDSL high speedInternetservice, aDSL filter is
required (notincluded). Contactyour DSLservice provider formoreinformation about
DSL filter.
CAUTION: Use only thepower adaptorthatcame with this unit.(Telephone

Telephone jack requirements
To usethis phone,you needa RJ11Ctypemodular telephone jack,which might look like
theone picturedhere,installed in your home.Ifyoudonot haveamodular jack, call your
local phone company tofindout howtohaveone installed.

Battery installation
For optimumbattery performance, charge the battery for 16hours beforefirstuse.
1.Makesurethebatterycompartment cover is notattachedwith the handset.
2.Insertthe AAA rechargeable batteries in the battery compartment,matching the +/-
polarity markings.
3.Align thecover against the battery compartmentand slide it upwardsuntil it clicks into
place.
4.Chargethehandset byplacing it in the telephone base or charger.The light onthe
handset is onwhen charging.
CAUTION:
1.Toreduce the risk offire orpersonal injury,use only themodel (HIGHPOWER - HRF
AAA400 or SANIK- SN AAA40H, 400mA 1.2VNi-MH) which is compatible with this unit.

Battery safety - CAUTION
ONLY use the rechargeable batteries supplied with the handset.DO NOT use

ECO Mode
Bothin Call mode as well as in Standby mode, the radiationis reduced considerably as

Registering a handset
The telephone systemcan supportuptoa total of5 cordless handsets.Handsets that
were included with your main baseare pre-registered.

Do not disturb
When DO NOT DISTURB (DND) modeis activated,all incoming calls will be silent.This
featureonly silences the ringer, the incoming number, ifyou havesubscribed tothecaller
ID servicefromyour telephone service provider, will be recorded in thecaller ID history
as normal.
Global DND
When global DND is activated,all system handsets and the telephone basewill be silent
when there is an incoming call. PresstheDND button on the telephone base to turn this
featureonor off.
Handset DND
Youcan programindividual handsettosilence during predetermined time frames.This
settingis independent toeach handsetandonly silences the ringer ofthehandset

Telephone operation
Make a call

Answer a call
Press $ to answer anincoming call.
When thereis an incoming call, thescreen anddial pad backlight will be on.
NOTE: The screenshows the elapsed time as youtalk (in hours,minutes andseconds).
End a call
Press & or place the handsetin the telephone base orcharger to enda call.
Speakerphone
Anytimeduring a call, press $ to switchbetweenspeakerphone andnormal handset
use. Whenthespeakerphone is active,thehandsetscreen showsF.
NOTE: Using the speakerphone will drain thebattery faster than the normal handset
use.
Volume control
Youcan adjustthevolume ofthe handsetor speakerphoneanytimeduring acall.
On thehandset,press + to increase or- to decreasethevolume.
NOTE: Only thelistening volume can beadjusted.
Make a call using the redialmemory
The last ten telephone numbers previously dialed are storedin theredial list (upto24
digits each).
1.Press redial.

Save a number from the rediallist to the phonebook

Mute
The mute function allows you toturnoff themicrophone while ona call. You canhear the

NOTE: The screenshows MUTE ON when mute featureis activated.
Callwaiting or callwaiting with callerIDservice
To usecall waiting,you must subscribe tocall waiting service fromyour telephone
service provider. This feature allows you to receive calls while you are already talking on
thephone. You will hear a call waiting alert tonewhen there is asecond incoming call. If
you subscribe to both caller ID andcall waiting with caller ID services,thesecond callers
informationis displayed afteryou hearthecall waiting alert tone.
1.Press flash toanswer thesecond incomingcall.
2.Press flash toswitch between calls.
Voice mail service
The B icon flashes on the screen when youhave received anew voice mail message
fromyour service provider.
IMPORTANT: Voice mail service is different from theanswering system.Inorder to use
thevoice mail service, you mustsubscribe toit fromyour telephone service provider.
Using multiple handsets
The systemallows a maximumoftwo handsets tohave aconversation withan outside
call at a time.Ifahandsetis already on a call and youwould like to join thecall, press
& on another handset.
The call will not be terminated until all handsets hang up.
Handset page
You can locate amisplaced handsetby paging it.
1.Press $ on thetelephone base.All registered handsets beep for one minute.
2.Press $ on thetelephone baseor press & on any handsetto stop paging.
Intercom (only applicable for models with multiple handsets)
The systemallows an intercomcall between two handsets registered to the same
telephone base.
To initiate anintercomcall:
1.Press (.
Ifyour telephone systemhasonly twohandsets registered,the intercomcall will be
automatically directedtotheothersystemhandset.
Ifyour telephone systemhasmorethantwohandsetsregistered,enterthehandset
number youwanttocall by using the dial pad 1-5.
2.Press $ to answertheintercomcall on theother handset.
3.To end theintercomcall, press &.
NOTES:
1)The intercomcall can be canceled beforeit is answeredby pressing & or ( on
theoriginating handset.
2)Ifthehandsetbeing called does notanswer within oneminute,the paging will be
canceled.
To answer an incoming callduring intercom
You will hear an alerttonewhenyou receive anincoming call during intercom.
Press $ to answer the incoming call and endtheintercom.
Press ( to answertheincoming call and puttheintercomon hold.Press andhold
( to switchbetweenintercomand the incoming call.
Press and hold ( toconferencewith both the incoming call and theintercom.
To initiate an intercom during a call
You can intercomwith another systemhandset during acall, or invite another system
handset to join.
1.Press ( during a call.
Ifyour telephone systemhasonly twohandsets registered,the intercomcall will be
automatically directedtotheothersystemhandset.
Ifyour telephone systemhasmorethantwohandsetsregistered,you will need toenter
thehandset number you want to intercom to by usingthedial pad 1-5. The call is placed
on hold while theintercomis established with the other handset.
2.Press $ to answertheintercomon the other handset.
NOTE: The intercomcall can becanceled beforeit is answeredby pressing del/int on
theoriginating handset.
3.You can choosefromoneofthefollowing options forthis intercomcall.
Press and hold ( toconnectbothhandsetstothecall.
Press ( on theoriginating handset to alternate between the intercomandthecall.
Press & on either handsettoterminate the intercomonthathandset.The call will
continue ontheother handset.
Push to talk (PTT) (onlyapplicable for models with multiple handsets)
You can directly broadcastmessages to the speakerphoneofany registered handsetin
thesystem.If your telephone system has morethantwohandsets:
1.Press +/- to selectthehandsetyou wantto broadcast themessageto,or
select ALLHANDSET to broadcastto all handsets andthenpress %.
2.PRESS ANDHOLD [PTT] TO TALK shows on thescreen whentheconnection is set
betweentheinitiating handset andthedestination handset.
3.Press andhold the? buttonon eitherhandsettostartthe broadcast.
NOTE: Connection setbetween handsets lasts for30minutes afterit is established, or
30 minutes after thelast broadcast. You will need to performtheabove operation again if
you wantto initiate aPTT to another systemhandsetorafter the 30-minute time out.
Phonebook
Add a phonebook record

Chain dialing
This feature allows you to initiate adialing sequencefromnumbers storedin the
phonebook while you are ona call. This feature is useful if you wish to accessanother
numbers (suchas bank accountinformation oraccess code) from thephonebook.

CallerID
Using Caller ID service
IMPORTANT: To use the Caller-IDcapabilities ofthis telephone system,you must
subscribe toCaller-ID services fromyour service provider. Checkwith yourtelephone
service provider for details. Your telephone storescaller ID memory for the 40 most
recent calls. Eachentryholds up to 20digits for the telephone number and14 characters
for the name.
Review/callfrom the call log
As calls are received and stored,thedisplay is updated to letyou knownew calls have
been received.To scroll through the caller IDrecords:

3.When the desired recordis displayed,press $ to call.
Save a number to the phonebook

Troubleshooting guide
Ifyour telephone systemis notoperating properly, firsttry this general reset procedures:
1.Unplug all power adapters fromthepower outlets.
2.Disconnect the telephone line cord fromthe baseor modular jack.
3.Removethebattery compartmentcoversand unplug all handsetbattery packs.
4.After a few minutes,re-install all handset batterypacks,making surethatthe
connectors aresnug andthewires are notpinched before replacing all battery
compartment covers.
5.Plug the power adapters for thebase andany chargers back intotheir poweroutlets.
Be surenottouse outlets thatarecontrolled by wall switches or timers.
6.Place all handsets in the telephone base or chargerstochargewithout interruption for
at least30minutes before use.
7.Plug the line cord intothetelephone baseor modular jack and verify operation.
General Product Care
Avoiddropping thehandset,as well as otherrough treatmenttothephone.Clean the
phone only with adry softcloth.Never use cleaning agents, paintthinner,abrasive
powder, alcohol, or other chemical products to clean the unit. Doing sowill damagethe
unit. Retain the original packaging in caseyou needtoship the phoneata later date.
