agreed with the appropriate authorities and also observed.
The notes, in particular the “Checklist for the manufacturer” (see chapter 10.2) in these
operating instructions (e.g. on use, mounting, installation or integration into the machine
controller) must be observed.
Changes to the configuration of the “LCUR1411 and C4000” unit may degrade the
protective function of the C4000. After every change to the configuration you must
therefore check the effectiveness of the protective device.
The person who makes the changes is also responsible for ensuring the protective
function of the “LCUR1411 and C4000” unit is retained. In case of any questions,
please contact the SICK service team.
The tests must be carried out by specialist personnel or specially qualified and
authorised personnel and must be recorded and documented to ensure that the tests
can be reconstructed and retraced at any time.
The operating instructions for the LCUR1411, for the C4000 and for the UE402-
A0010S01 must always be available to the operator of the machine/system on which
the C4000 light curtain is used in conjunction with the LCUR1411. The machine
operator is to be instructed in the use of the device by specialist personnel and must be

Product description
3 Product description
This chapter provides information on the special features and properties of the
LCUR1411 interface unit and describes the construction and the operating principle of
the device, in particular the different operating modes in connection with the C4000 safety
light curtain.
Please read this chapter before mounting, installing and commissioning the device.
3.1 Special features
The LCUR1411 interface unit makes it possible to replace earlier protective devices
manufactured by SICK with the C4000 Standard/Advanced safety light curtain (for
detailed information see chapter 0
Reference lists for the replacement of existing ESPE”).
In this case the LCUR1411 enables the functions realised with the earlier protective
device to continue to be utilised:
Connection to an operating mode selector switch with the operating modes
Protective operation
single break PSDI mode
double break PSDI mode
Realisation of the related operating modes (see chapter 5.3 and the operating
instructions UE402A0010S01, chapter “PSDI mode” and the sub-sections “PSDI time
monitoring, PSDI window, Start sequence [requirements, procedure]”).
Configure restart interlock correctly!
The restart interlock must be realised in the higher level control or via the C4000 safety
light curtain (see C4000 Standard/Advanced operating instructions, chapter “Restart
interlock”).
In case of AGS and LVS, it must be checked whether they have been configured with an
internal or external restart interlock; the C4000 is then to be configured in the same way.
Observe special requirements in case of use on presses manufactured after 1980 and
with a press table height of more than 750 mm above the base!
If the LCUR1411 interface unit is used with machines/systems with PSDI mode, the
dangerous movement must be triggered within 30 s of the end of the cycle. If this time is
exceeded, it is only allowed to be possible to initiate the dangerous movement using the
control switch.
In case of AGS and LVS it is to be checked whether the PSDI time monitoring is undertaken
in the machine controller or in the ESPE; the C4000 is then to be configured in the same
way (see C4000 Standard/Advanced operating instructions, chapter “Restart interlock”).
Observe special requirements in case of use on presses with PDSI mode!
If the LCUR1411 interface unit is used with machines/systems in PSDI mode, the related
applicable national and international regulations and laws must be met.

3.3 Reference lists for the replacement of existing ESPE
Safety note
The following reference lists are only valid if the protective field height of the electro-
sensitive protective equipment to be replaced complies with EN 294.
It is not possible to realise a C4000 series connection using “Host/Guest”. A dedicated
LCUR1411 interface unit is required for each C4000 that replaces an old device.
If the “blanking” function has been used in the past, a C4000 Advanced must be
chosen.
On the replacement of an old device it is to be ensured the protective field height of the
C4000 is the same as the protective field height of the old device. If this is not possible,
the next larger protective field height must be chosen.

Mounting
4 Mounting
This chapter describes the preparation and mounting of the LCUR1411 interface unit and
provides additional information on how existing fixing holes for the ESPE to be replaced
can be taken into account on mounting the C4000 safety light curtain.
4.1 Safety notes for mounting
Mounting location
The LCUR1411 should be mounted directly on the machine/system to be protected (see
chapter 4.2, 4.3). In case of use on presses and vibrators, we recommend the use of anti-
vibration mountings (see chapter 9.4).
During all mechanical work on the machine/system stands, it must be ensured the
machine cannot be damaged by this mechanical work.
Measurement of stopping/run-down time prior to dismantling the old device
Prior to dismantling the protective device to be replaced, the following must be noted:
It must be ensured an up to date measurement of the stopping/run-down time is available
for the machine/system, as this information is necessary to determine the safety distance.
If necessary, a stopping/run-down travel measurement must be performed to determine
this figure.
Document cable assignments prior to dismantling!
Prior to disconnecting the cables at terminals or connectors, the current core assignments
must be documented to enable the LCUR1411 to be connected correctly.
Safety distance
Due to the combination of LCUR1411 with the C4000 safety light curtain, the response
time may change compared to older protective devices. As a result a different mounting
location may be necessary for a sufficiently large safety distance. It is therefore
necessary to calculate the safety distance again prior to mounting (see C4000
Standard/Advanced operating instructions, chapter “Determining the safety distance”).
Distance to reflective surfaces
The light beams from the C4000 sender may be deflected by reflective surfaces. This
problem can result in failure to detect an object (see C4000 Standard/Advanced operating
instructions, chapter “Minimum distance to reflective surfaces”).

4.2 Mounting notes
Prior to mounting the LCUR1411, the following points must be noted.
4.2.1 Mounting notes on replacement of LVU200/300
The LVU200/300 is connected to the machine controller via the switching amplifier unit
(SVU). This unit is either in the control cabinet or directly on the machine.
Document cable assignments prior to dismantling!
Prior to disconnecting the cables at terminals or connectors, the current core assignments
must be documented to enable the LCUR1411 to be connected correctly.
Remove SVU

4.2.2 Mounting notes on replacement of all other types of ESPE
On all ESPE to be replaced of the types LVS, LVU (not including LVU200/300), the
LCUR1411 must be mounted as close as possible to the C4000 receiver, as the existing
cable from the machine controller to the ESPE to be replaced is of limited length.

Mounting
4.3 Mounting the LCUR1411
If necessary, use anti-vibration mounts!
If the permissible values for vibration or shock (vibration resistance 5g, 10- 55Hz as per
IEC 60 068-2-6, shock resistance 10g, 16 ms as per IEC 60 068-2-29) are exceeded,
we recommend the use of anti-vibration mounts (see chapter 9.3 “Accessories”).
Remove transport protection (foam insert) from the housing for the LCUR1411 and
dispose.
Straps with holes for mounting are attached to the outside of the housing of the
LCUR1411 (Dimensions see chapter 9.2 Dimensional drawing”)
To make mounting easier, undo the four cover screws (see Fig.7, )
Disconnect PE cable from the clip on the inside of the cover
Remove housing cover
Securely fasten LCUR1411 with four M6 screws (see Fig.7, ) rubber washers and self-
locking nuts
Re-connect PE cable to the clip on the inside of the cover
Re-fasten housing cover using the four cover screws
