To have your freezer operate most efhcientl/

frost to accumulate on the shelves.
To remove fl'ost, scrai)e with a plastic or
wood spatula or sci';ipei:
Do not use an ice pick or sharp-edged
instrument as it may damage or scratch the
freezer
Donot useanyelectrical devicein
defrostingyourfreezer.
For Complete Defrosting

and tmpltlg the ti'eezei:
[] Remoxe all food and place it in
COlTugated boxes, instflated bags,
picnic coolels, etc. Use towels and
newspal)ei_ tor insulation as needed.
_] X&_ithtile door/lid open, use pans of
hot water to speed loosening offi'ost.
Remove large pieces befi)re they melt.
On models without a defi'ost drain,
place towels or I_ewspapels on the
fi'eezer bottom to catch the fi'ost. The
fi'ost will loosen and tifll. Remove towels
and/or newsl)al)ers.
DrainHose
[_] a. Seine Upi_ight models have a hose
adapter and a di'ain hose behii_d tile
base grille which carl T the defl'ost
water out fl'om the fl'eezeI; I_.emove
the base glJlle; then remove the di'aii_
pltlg and let the defl'ost water drain
into a pan.
/1. Some Chest models have a deti'ost
water drain at tile ti'ont and a hose
adapter that is packaged in a bag in
tile bottonl (ff tile ti'eezei: Renlove
the dI'aiI_ cap on tile ti'ont (ff tile
ti'eezei; insert tile hose connectoi"
and attach the hose. Remove the
drain plug inside the cabinet.
NOTE'Water may drip ti'onl tile
back flange of the lid cover dui_ing
deii'osfing. This is natural. Ice btfilds
up in the lid iI_stflafion when the lid is
open tor adding or removii_g toed,
and melts dttling tile deli'osting
oi)eration.

fl'eezer (see Care and Cleaning).

drain tube to its i)osition. Replace the
base grille.
b. On Chest models, replace the drain
i)lug inside the cabinet and the cap
on tile defl'ost drain. Fold over and
dry the gasket on tile hinge side of
the lid.
