INSTALLER
This reminder is provided to call the cable TV system
installer's attention to Article 820-40 of the National
Electrical Code (U.S.A.). The code provides guidelines for
proper grounding and, in particular, specifies that the cable
ground shall be connected to the grounding system of the
building, as close to the point of the cable entry as practical.
POWER-CORD POLARIZATION
This product is equipped with a polarized alternating-
current line plug (a plug having one blade wider than the other).
As a safety feature, this plug will fit into the power outlet
only one way. if you arc: unable to insert the plug fully into

15. Lightning
For added protection for this product (receiver) dur-
ing a lightning storm, or when it is left unattended
and unused for long periods of time, unplug it from
the wall outlet and disconnect the antenna or cable
system. This will prevent damage to the product
due to lightning and power-line surges.

QUICK SET UP GUIDE
1. CONNECT THE POWER
AFTER you have connected the necessary cable(s) to tile
jacks on the back of the TV:. plug your TV's power cord into a
standard AC power outlet for 120 volt, 60Hz AC current.
Make sure you do not plug the TV into an outlet controlled by
a switch.
Ttun on the TV by using the Power switch on the TV.
2. INSTALL THE BATTERIES INTO THE REMOTE
Install the batteries that are provided with your remote.
The remote comes set with Hitachi codes. If you'd like to use the remote to operate other brands of equipment, you will need to pro-
gram the codes for that equipment into the remote. (See remote control section.)

Clock Set Se_:s the TV's clock to the current time.
Timer Setup Note: The clock in the TV must be set before you can use the timers.
1. :Sets the TV's Sleep Timer and On/OffTimer.
2. The Sleep Timer programs the TV to turn offafter a period from 15 minutes up to 4 hours.
3. The On/OffTimer programs the TV to turn on and offat specific times.
Child Lock Blocks undesirable channels, including the VIDEO input source.
Captions To set Closed Captions/Text On/Off or select Captions When Muted.
Caption/Text Displays closed captions or text when available on the selected channel. Options are: Caption 1, Caption 2,
Caption 3, Caption 4, Text 1, Text 2, Text 3, and Text 4.
Language Selects English, Spanish, or French for on-screen menus.

TIMER SETUP: Sleep Timer
The Sleep Timer programs 1:he TV to turn off after a period from 15 minutes to 4 hours.

Make sure the TV's clock is set. 1.
Select Timer Setup and press a 2.
Left/Right arrow to view the Timer
Menu.
Select Sleep Timer.
Press a Left/Right arrow repeatedly to
set how long the TV will remain on.
Direct From Timer Button
Press SLEEP on the remote.
Press SLEEP repeatedly to set
how long the TV will remain on.
Note: To cancel the Sleep Timer, turn offthe TV or press SLEEP repeatedly until
Off is showing.

TJMER SETUP: On/Off Timer
The On/Off Timer programs the TV to turn on and off at specific times.
Set On/Off Timer
1. Make sure the TV's clock is set.
2. Select Timer Setup and press a Left!Right arrow to view the Timer Menu.
3. _Select On Time and use the numbers on your remote to enter a time for the
TV to turn On. Press SLEEP on the remote to select AM or PM.
4. Select OffTime and use the numbers on your remote to enter a time for the
TV to turn Off. Press SLEEP on the remote to select AM or PM.
5. Select On!Off Timer and use a Left/Right arrow to show On.
6, Press EXIT on your remote to remove the menu from view.
Note: You must set an OffTime before you can set the On!OffTimer to On.

USING CHILD LOCK
To Block Channels or the Video Input Source
1. Select Child Lock and press a Left/Right arrow to view the Child Lock
menu.
2. Select Chan (Channel) Lock.
3. Use the numbers on the remote to enter a channel number and press a
Left!Right arrow to show Locked.
4 Repeat steps 3 and 4 for each channel you want Locked.
5 Select Video Lock to lock the Video source input and press a
Left/Right arrow to show Video Locked.
6 After you lock all desired channels and/or the Video source, select Set
Hours and use the Left!Right arrows to choose the time period you
want Child Lock to be active: from 1 hour to 99 hours.
7 Select Set Password.
8 Press a LeNRight arrow and enter a 4-digit password when prompted.
(Verify the password by entering it a second time.)
9 Select Lock On!Offand use the Left/Right arrows to show On.
10.Press EXIT to remove the menu from view.

specified time period to elapse.
Notes:
Do not try to deactivate the Child Lock by unplugging your TV. This only restarts Child Lock lock time.
CI Child Lock cannot be turned On (Lock On/Off) until the Hours and Password have been set.
USING AUTO DEMO
Your new TV demonstrates on-screen menus that control the
TV's setup and operational features. Turn on Auto Demo to
show the on-screen menus one-by-one.

Mono:
Directs the sound to the Left and Right speakers as supplied by 3'our"TV, VCR, etc.
Directs the same sound to both Left and Right speakers, even if the program is in stereo.
Surround b
Perfect Vol Maintains the TV's volume at a constant level (including commercials and audio from the auxiliary input
source).
SAP: Directs the sound for the Second Audio Progrmnto both the Left:and Right speakers. SAP
(2nd Audio) sound is always monaural. (SAP is not available if Video isyour viewing source.)

If you select stereo as the Audio Mode, the TV switches between Stereo and Mono (Monaural) sound depending on the audio

KI If you select SAP as the Audio Mode, you'll hear SAP (usually a second language) on stations broadcasting two audio signals.
When the SAP broadcast ends, the TV switches between Stereo and Mono modes depending on the audio signal received. The
TV switches back to SAP (2nd Audio) when the SAP broadcast resumes.
Variable Audio Output .lacks
If you connected an audio amplifier to the VARIABLE AUDIO OUTPUT jacks on the back of the TV, be sure to place the Ex-
ternal/Internal Speaker .,;witchto EXT; to turn offthe TV's internal speakers. If you wish to hear ,;ound from the TV speakers,
leave the switch set at INT.

Sharpness Adjusts object-edge definition for best picture quality.
Picture Pref. Selects the video adjustments to be used.
(Preference) PRESET restores the factory preset adjustments.
Note: Adjustments you make to the Video Menu settings are stored as Custom settings.
