INTRODUCTION
The RS232G is a device that allows a Niles IntelliControl
®
ICS system to communicate,
bi-directionally, to another RS232 component or control system. It has two simple connections.
The first is a shielded CAT-5 connector, for connection to a Niles ICS system. The second is a
screw down terminal strip, for connection to the included DB9 cable. Connecting RS232 de-
vices has never been easier. Simply run a CAT-5 cable from the device, back to the location
of the ICS system and terminate the CAT-5 with standard T568A wiring code. Next, connect
the DB9 cable to the terminal strip and plug it into the device. The DB9 cable makes it easy
to connect any RS232 component, no matter what the pinout-wiring configuration is. Simply
wire the cable according to the product specific diagram provided in the IntelliFile3
®
setup
wizard. The RS232G gets its power from the ICS system, so no external power supply
is required.
The RS232G is another member of the family of plug-n-play Niles network devices. Plug it
into an ICS system, open the IntelliFile3 wizard and the wizard discovers the RS232G. On the
RS232 configuration page, choose what it’s connected to from the list of approved components
and plug it in. All the RS232 parameters, like Baud Rate, Parity Bits and Flow Control, are
automatically set for the device and all the control screens and functions are automatically
mapped to every user interface in the system.
