4. Do not operate any machine / tool when tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medications.
5. Do not overreach when operating a tool. Proper footing and balance enables better control of a tool in
unexpected situations.
6. Use clamps or other practical ways to support or secure the work piece to a stable platform. Holding the
work piece by hand or against your body is not stable and may lead to loss of control and injury.
SPECIFIC SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
1. Accessories must be rated for at least the recommended RPM speed of the tool. See the Specifications
section for the no load speed.
2. Keep hands away from cutting area and the blade. If both hands are holding the saw, the blade cannot
cut them.
3. Keep your body positioned to either side of the blade, but not in line with the saw blade.
4. Keep the guards in place and in working order. Do not remove or modify any of the safety
features of the tool.
5. Never hold a work piece being cut in your hands. Secure the work piece to a stable platform. It is important
to support the work piece properly to minimize body exposure, blade binding, or loss of control.
6. Feed the work piece into a blade or cutter against the rotating direction of the blade or cutter.
7. Stay clear of end pieces that may fall after cutting. They may be hot, sharp and / or heavy. Serious personal
injury may result.
8. Never stand on the tool. Serious injury could occur if the tool is tipped or if the saw blade is accidentally
touched. To avoid having to stand or lean over the tool, do not store materials above or near it.
9. Be careful when moving the tool. Always turn off the power and lower the head to its horizontal position
before moving the saw unit.
9. Always handle the saw blade with care when mounting or removing it.
10. Do not start the tool when the blade is touching the work piece.
11. Never use damaged or incorrect blade washers or bolt. The blade washers and bolt were specially
designed for your saw, for optimum performance and safety of operation.
12. Do not use the tool on any material containing asbestos.
13. Avoid cutting nails. Inspect the work piece for any nails and remove before cutting.
14. Do not touch the blade or the surface that has been cut with this tool immediately after use. The surface
will be hot and may cause an injury.
ELECTRICAL SAFETY
1. Disconnect power supply. Disconnect the tool from the power supply when not in use, before cleaning,
servicing or changing any parts.
2. Protect yourself against electric shocks when working on electrical equipment. Avoid body contact with
grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators, cooking stoves and refrigerators. There is an increased

V 3.03
chance of electrical shock if your body is grounded.
3. Double insulated tools are equipped with a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other.) This plug
will fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If
it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician to install a polarized outlet. Do not change the plug in
any way. Double insulation eliminates the need for a three wire grounded power cord and grounded
power supply system.
4. Grounded tools must be plugged into an outlet that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with
all codes and ordinances. Never remove the grounding prong or modify the plug in any way. Do not use
any adapter plugs. Check with a qualified electrician if you are in doubt as to whether the outlet is properly
grounded. If the tool should electronically malfunction or break down, grounding provides a low resistance
path to carry electricity away from the user.
5. Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord to pull the plug from an outlet. Keep the cord away from heat,
oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Do not operate this tool if the power cord is frayed or damaged. Replace
damaged cords immediately. Damaged cords increase the risk of electric shock. Do not modify the plug in
any way.
6. When operating a power tool outside, use an outdoor extension cord marked “W-A” or “W”. These cords
are rated for outdoor use and reduce the risk of electric shock. Use in conjunction with a Ground Fault
Circuit Interrupter (GFCI). If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, the use of a GFCI
reduces the risk of electric shock. It is recommended that the GFCI should have a rated residual current of
30 mA or less.
7. Avoid using an unnecessarily long extension cord. Choose a cord that is appropriate for the situation, as a
cord that is too long and running across the floor can be more dangerous than helpful. Using a cord that is
too long or too thin could damage the tool. Unroll the cord completely to prevent it from overheating.
8. Place the electrical cord in a position that prevents it from coming into contact with the tool and from
getting caught by the work piece. The cord should always stay behind the tool.
9. Keep all connections dry and off the ground to reduce the risk of electric shock. Do not touch the plug with
wet hands.
WARNING! People with pacemakers should consult their physician(s) before using this product. Operations
of electrical equipment in close proximity to a heart pacemaker could cause interference or failure
of the pacemaker.
KICKBACK PRECAUTIONS
Kickback is a sudden reaction to a pinched, bound or misaligned saw blade; − when the blade is pinched or bound
tightly by the kerf closing down, the blade stalls and the motor reaction drives the unit rapidly back. Kickback
may result in loss of control of the tool leading to serious personal injury and / or damage to the work piece
and / or tool.
Kickback can be avoided by taking proper precautions:
1. Maintain a firm grip on the tool / work piece and position your body and arms to allow you to resist
kickback forces.
2. Never place your hand near the blade. Use clamps or a vice to hold down the work piece.
3. Use special care when working on corners, sharp edges etc. Corners, sharp edges or bouncing have a
tendency to snag the blade and cause loss of control or kickback.
4. When the blade is binding, or when interrupting a cut for any reason, cut the power and hold the saw
motionless in the material until the blade comes to a complete stop. Never attempt to remove the work
piece from the saw while the blade is in motion or kickback may occur. Investigate and take corrective
actions to eliminate the cause of blade binding.
5. When restarting a saw in the work piece, center the saw blade in the kerf and check that saw teeth are not
engaged into the material. If saw blade is binding, it may walk up or kickback from the work piece as the
saw is restarted.

V 3.03
6. Support large panels to minimize the risk of blade pinching and kickback. Large panels tend to sag under
their own weight. Supports must be placed under the panel on both sides, near the line of cut and near the
edge of the panel.
7. Only use blades designed for the tool. Do not use dull or damaged blades. Unsharpened or improperly set
blades produce narrow kerf causing excessive friction, blade binding and kickback. Keep blades sharp and
clean. Gum and wood pitch hardened on blades slows the saw and increases potential for kickback.
8. Never force the cut. Forcing the saw can cause uneven cuts, loss of accuracy, and possible kickback.
VIBRATION PRECAUTIONS
This tool / work piece vibrates during use. Repeated or long-term exposure to vibration may cause temporary or
permanent physical injury, particularly to the hands, arms and shoulders.
1. Anyone using vibrating tools regularly or for an extended period should first be examined by a doctor and
then have regular medical check-ups to ensure medical problems are not being caused by or worsened
from vibrations. Pregnant women or people who have impaired blood circulation to the hands, past hand
injuries, nervous system disorders, diabetes or Raynaud’s Disease should not use tool’s that vibrate. If you
feel any medical symptoms related to vibrations (such as tingling, numbness, and white or blue fingers),
seek medical attention as soon as possible.
2. Do not smoke during use. Nicotine reduces the blood flow to the hands and fingers, increasing the risk of
vibration-related injury.
3. Wear suitable gloves to reduce the vibration effects on the user.
4. Use tools with the lowest amount of vibration when there is a choice between different processes.
5. Do not use for extended periods. Take frequent breaks when using vibrating tools.
6. Let the tool do the work. Grip the tool as lightly as possible (while still keeping safe control of it).
7. To reduce vibrations, maintain the tool as explained in this manual. If abnormal vibrations occur, stop
using this tool immediately.

3. Place the work piece on the saw bed. If the piece is too long, place a support at the end.
4. Clamp the work piece securely in the vise plates.
STARTING THE SAW
WARNING! Never operate the saw without the blade guards in place.
Make sure that the blade is not in contact with the work piece when the motor is starting. Start the motor and
allow the saw to come to full speed, and then begin the cut by lowering the head down slowly onto the work piece.
Do not drop or force the blade. Let the weight of the saw head provide the cutting force. The saw will automatically
shut off at the end of the cut.
WORK STOP BLOCK ADJUSTMENT
1. Loosen the screw (71) holding the work stop block (73) on the work stop rod (74).
2. Adjust the work stop block to the desired length.
3. Rotate the work stop block as close to the bottom of the cut as possible.
4. Tighten the screw (71) to secure.
CAUTION! Do not allow the blade to rest on the work piece while the motor is off.
CONVERTING FOR VERTICAL USE
Notching, splitting and contour work should be done with the saw in the vertical position.
To adjust the saw to vertical position:
1. Rotate the head to the vertical position.
2. Remove the deflector plate (142) from the adjustment blade seat (143).
3. Attach the vertical cutting plate (182) to the adjustment blade seat (143) and the rear adjustable bracket
(132) using the screws provided.
BLADE SELECTION
An 8-tooth / inch, general-use blade is supplied with the metal cutting band saw. The choice of blade pitch
depends on the thickness of the work to be cut. The smaller the work piece, the more teeth / inch required. A
minimum of 3 teeth should engage the work piece at all times for proper cutting. If the gap between the teeth
straddles the work piece, damage can happen to both the blade and the work piece.
BLADE SPEEDS
When using your band saw, always use the blade best suited for the material being cut. The material cutting chart
below suggests settings for several types of material.

BLADE TRACK ADJUSTMENT
1. Open the blade guard.
2. Remove the blade guide assemblies (top and bottom).
3. Loosen the hex head screw in the tilting mechanism but do not remove it.
4. With the machine running, adjust both the set screw (167) and the blade tension knob (181)
simultaneously to keep constant tension on the blade. The set screw and blade tension knob always turn
in the opposite direction. i.e., When one is turned clockwise, the other is turned counterclockwise. The
blade is tracking properly when the back side just touches the shoulder of the puller or when a slight gap
appears near the center line of the pulley. Be careful not to over tighten the saw blade.
5. Tighten the hex head screw in the tilting mechanism.
CAUTION! Sometimes, while trying to make this critical adjustment, it is possible to cause an accidental
misalignment of the pieces of the tool. Should this occur, proceed as follows:
a. Loosen the set screw as far as it can go while remaining in the threaded hole.
b. Turn the hex head screw in the tilting mechanism clockwise until it stops (do not tighten).
c. Turn the set screw clockwise until it hits the bottom, then continue for half a turn and check the
tracking by turning on the machine.
d. If further adjustment is required, go back to step 4 and repeat the process.
6. Unplug the band saw.
7. Replace the blade guide assemblies – it may be necessary to loosen the blade tension slightly.
8. Adjust the vertical position of the blade guide bearing assemblies so that the back side of the blade just
touches the ball bearings.
9. Make a final run to check the tracking. If further adjustment is required, go back to step 4 and
repeat the process.
10. Replace the blade guards.
QUICK-ACTION VISE JAW
WARNING! Do not make any adjustments or load / unload material from the vise while the machine is running.
Failure to comply may cause serious injury.
The quick-action vise jaws allow you to quickly position the moveable jaw (94). Turn the hand wheel (47) 1/2 a
turn counterclockwise and move the vise jaw (94) to the desired position. Then tighten the vise jaw (94) against
the work piece by turning the hand wheel (47) clockwise.

BLADE GUIDE BEARING ADJUSTMENT
NOTE: To get satisfactory results from your saw, re-adjust the blade guides immediately if they get out of
adjustment. As long as the blade guides are not aligned, the blade will not cut straight and serious property
damage or personal injury could occur. If you think the guides need re-adjusting, try changing the blade first. If the
new blade does not correct the problem, then the blade guides can be re-adjusted as indicated in steps 1 through
5 below.
NOTE: The clearance between the blade and the guide bearings should be from 0.000 in. (just touching) to 0.001
in. The inner guide bearing is fixed and cannot be adjusted. However, the outer guide bearing is mounted onto an
eccentric bushing and can be adjusted.
1. Disconnect the band saw from its power source.
2. Locate the bolt holding the blade guide in place.
3. Loosen the nut while holding the bolt with an Allen wrench.
4. Position the eccentric bushing by turning the bolt to the desired position.
5. Tighten the bolt.
6. Repeat the above steps for the second blade guide.
MAINTENANCE
1. Remove the plug from the power source before carrying out any adjustment, servicing or maintenance.
2. Keep the machine clean.
3. Never use a saw blade that is damaged, distorted or dull.
4. Inspect the blade guard to ensure that it is in good condition. Never use the tool unless the safety cover

CLEANING
Unbolt the saw from the skid and place it on a level surface. Clean the rust protected surfaces with kerosene,
diesel oil or a mild solvent. Do not use cellulose based solvents such as paint thinner or lacquer thinner. These will
damage the painted surfaces.
LUBRICATION
Lubricate the following components using SAE-30 oil as noted:
Ball Bearing None
Drive Pulley Bearing 6 to 8 drops per week
Vise Screws As Needed
Drive Gears The drive gears run in an oil bath and will not require a
lubricant change more than once a year, unless the lubricant
is contaminated or a leak occurs. During the first few days
of operation, the worm gear drive will run hot. Unless the
temperature exceeds 90°C (194°F), there is no cause for alarm.
DISPOSING OF THE TOOL
If your tool has become damaged beyond repair, do not throw it out. Bring it to the appropriate recycling facility.
TROUBLE SHOOTING
Problem(s) Possible Cause(s) Suggested Solution(s)
