Flip Lever Retrofit Kit….P/N 91800138
Thoroughly review all instructions before beginning any installation. Examine contents of package for
damaged or missing parts. If any damage is discovered and/or parts are missing, notify your Midmark
representative immediately…Tools required 1/2-inch and 7/16-inch open end wrench, assistant. Perform
a system leak test and correct leak(s) (see page 3) prior to installing flip lever kit.
1. Remove acorn nut, knurled thumb nut, and plastic washer from
both absorber tie rods. Do not discard acorn nuts. Caution: On
VA absorbers hold lower
absorber assembly to keep
components from falling.
2. Install aluminum washer first, then plastic washer, supplied with
kit, over tie rod.
3. Be sure the plastic CO2 absorber canister is in place during this
step. While pushing down on VMS absorber assembly top, (on
VA units push absorber assembly together) insert the flip lever
assembly and retainer over the tie rod as shown in the photo.
Begin threading the retainer onto the tie rod, DO NOT
TIGHTEN. Repeat with other tie rod. While still pushing
down on the absorber
assembly top, (push together
on VA units) finger-tighten
the retainer against the flip
lever assembly, DO NOT
USE A WRENCH.
4. After both retainers are finger-tight, tighten each retainer
an additional 1/2 turn using a 1/2-inch wrench. DO NOT
TIGHTEN MORE THEN 1/2 TURN WITH
WRENCH. Note: hold flip lever assembly so as not to

5. While holding the retainer with a 1/2-inch wrench rotate the
flip lever assembly so it points away from the center of the
absorber top, see photo. Repeat other assembly.
6. Insert the 3/16-inch long #4 setscrew into each of the retainers
and tighten. (0.05-in hex wrench supplied)
7. With the flip lever assembly still in the locked (down) position
insert the 1/8-inch long #6 setscrew into the lower threaded
opening of each bushing and tighten. (1/16-in hex wrench
supplied)
8. Open the flip lever assembly, insert the 1/8-inch long #6 setscrew
into the upper threaded hole of each bushing and tighten.
9. While holding the retainer with a 1/2-inch wrench, thread the
acorn nut (taken off in step 1) onto the tie rod and tighten the
acorn nut using a 7/16-inch wrench. Repeat for other tie rod.
10. Perform a leak test to verify system integrity (see page 3). Note:
leak(s) may not be related to installing lever kit.

position. On VA units push both flip levers down simultaneously. To open, push levers up.

Veterinary Anesthesia Machine Pressure check
It is recommended that anesthesia machines be tested for leaks prior to each veterinary procedure in which
the machine is used.
1. Close the relief valve-exhaust (APL valve, dump valve, pop-off-valve, etc.) and place your thumb over
the patient connection of the Y-piece, found at the end of the breathing circuit.
2. Open the oxygen flowmeter and allow the pressure to fill the machine naturally. Once it reaches 30
cm/H2O on the pressure gauge, turn off the flowmeter.
Note: The breathing bag will inflate during this procedure; there is no cause for concern.
3. Observe the pressure gauge. If the pressure drops from 30-cm H2O to 27-cm H2O in less than 10
seconds then leak(s) must be fixed.
Common Places for Leaks
Breathing bag and/or breathing circuit
Breathing circuit point of connection to machine
Unidirectional breathing valves
CO2 absorber gasket(s)
Relief valve-exhaust
Vaporizer inlet and outlet connections; filler cap
Fresh gas delivery hose and connection to machine
To locate leaks place hand over all connections, the breathing circuit, and bag, while system is pressurized,
and feel for leaks. For hard to find problems, wet hand or use soapy water solution over connections.
Evidence of bubbles will help locate leaks.
