INTRODUCTION
The KD-SCDA8 Distribution Amplifier (DA) by Key Digitalprovides
economical signal distribution from any one (1) Composite Video
(CV) and one (1) S-Video source to up to eight (8) Composite Video
and eight (8) S-Video destinations. It also distributes analog (Left
and Right stereo pair) or digital PCM audio. Composite Video, S-Video,
and Audio can be distributed simultaneously, on cable runs up to 300
feet long.
A convenient A/V and power supply Throughput output permits daisy-
chaining the input to another device; or you can use the Throughput
as an additional DA output, bringing the total outputs to nine (9).
This gives you the capability to drive as many outputs as desired
from one source, without any appreciable signal degradation.

WARRANTY
All Key Digitalproducts are built to high manufacturing standards and should provide years
of trouble-free operation. They are backed by a limited two-year parts and labor warranty.
Getting Started
First, understand the basic operation of the Distribution Amplifier.
The KD-SCDA8 Distribution Amplifier allows you to take a Composite
Video baseband signal, and/or an S-Video signal, and distribute it to
up to eight (8) separate destinations. The high-quality and state-of-
the-art electronic circuitry inside each Distribution Amplifier unit pro-
vides crystal-clear distribution from the source (Input) to up to eight
(8) or more destinations (up to 300 feet away). Of course, the signal
quality at the destination is always limited by the quality of your
input signal.
Your KD-SCDA8 Distribution Amplifier can simultaneously distribute
Composite Video and S-Video, because there are separate
Input/Output jacks for EACH format. Also, separate Left and Right
stereo analog audio jacks are provided, which allow you to drive one
input audio pair to up to eight (8) destinations. You may substitute
digital PCM audio for the Left and Right analog audio.
The unit runs on an external power supply, included with your unit.
An intelligent feature of your KD-SCDA8 Distribution Amplifier is the
“Throughput” output port. The “Throughput” output looks just like the
other eight (8) outputs from your DA — indeed it can be used as an
additional output, bringing the total distribution to nine (9) outputs.
However, if you need to “daisy-chain” (cascade) multiple Distribution
Amplifier units, then the “Throughput” output can be used as the
“Input” to the second KD-SCDA8 unit. You can cascade multiple units
this way, allowing you to distribute your signals to 16 or more desti-
nations. In addition, the power supply is also available as a
“Throughput” output (adjacent to the A/V output jacks), thereby
allowing you to use one heavy-duty power supply on the first KD-
SCDA8 unit, and feeding the power along with the “Throughput” A/V to
the daisy-chained units.
Setting Up Your Distribution Amplifier (“DA”) for Operation
The KD-SCDA8 Composite Video and S-Video Distribution Amplifier (DA)
is easy to configure and operate.
1. First, find a safe and convenient location for the DA. There
are flanges on each side of the metal case so the unit can be
bolted into position, if desired.

2. Connect the external 5 Volt DC supply into the DA. Run the
power cable safely to an appropriately-rated electrical outlet.
Use the 1 A supply (provided) for single-unit operation. Be
sure to use the 5 Amp, heavy-duty supply available from Key
Digitalif you are daisy-chaining multiple KD-SCDA8 units.
3. Note that your KD-SCDA8 Distribution Amplifier has an
Audio/Video Input/Output Panel. For ease-of-use, each
Input/Output Group on the panel is configured the same:
Three (3) color-coded, female RCA jacks, one each for:
-“CV” = Composite Video
-“L = Left Analog Audio (or Digital PCM Audio)
-“R” = Right Analog Audio (or Digital PCM Audio)
One (1) S-Video female jack
This panel is comprised of:
ONE (1) Input Group, Audio, Video, and Power, labeled “Inputs”
EIGHT (8) Output Groups, exactly the same configuration as the
Input A/V, labeled “1” through “8”
Color-coded female RCA jacks
S-Video
External +5V Power Supply In
CV = Composite Video
L= Left Analog Audio, or Digital PCM Audio
R= Right Analog Audio, or Digital PCM Audio

Page 4
“Throughput” and power supply drive Outputs, exactly the same
as the Input/Output A/V, can be used to daisy-chain to
additional Distribution Amplifier unit’s input (also supplies
power), or as a ninth DA output
4. Determine your configuration Input requirements:
Run the A/V Inputs to the DA: you can simultaneously input
Composite Video, S-Video, Left and Right Analog Audio or Digital
PCM Audio
You do not need to simultaneously utilize the Composite Video,
S-Video, and Audio inputs – simply use the format(s) you
require
The inputs are terminated internally
5. Determine your configuration Output requirements:
You have up to NINE (9) outputs available to drive your displays
or other destination devices
You do not need to use all the outputs – simply use the number
and formats you need
If you need more than nine (9) outputs, then you can use the
“Throughput” output to drive the input of a second KD-SCDA8
unit, and also feed forward the power (be sure to use a 5
Amp-rated input power supply, available separately from
Key Digital)
Run the A/V Outputs from your DA: you can simultaneously
output Composite Video, S-Video, Left and Right Analog Audio or
Digital PCM Audio
Cable runs can be up to 300 feet, without appreciable signal
loss
Terminate appropriately at the end of each run
