AXB-FBM AXlink Fiber Transceiver Multimode
Overview
The AXB-FBM AXlink Fiber Transceiver (Figure 1) enables AXlink devices
to be placed at greater distances from the Master Controller converting
AXCESS data signals to optical light waves. The AXB-FBM uses two-way
communication over multimode optical fiber. The use of AXB-FBM
installations is transparent to the Master Controller eliminating the need for
AXCESS commands and device numbers.
AXB-FBMs must be used in pairs, one at each end of a fiber optic cable
run. One acts as a Master and the other as a slave. Application of the AXB-
FBM is a plug-and-play installation. Connect the AXlink and power wiring as
show in Figure 3, then connect the two AXB-FBMs.
Each AXB-FBM pair uses up to 3,280 feet (1 KM) of optical fiber cable, a
total of up to 1,000 feet (304 M) of 18 AWG copper AXlink wiring, and up to
64 AXlink devices located at the far-end.

Using an Auxiliary 12 VDC Power Supply
The AXB-FBM requires 12.5 VDC to operate properly. The power is
supplied by the Master Controller's power supply, via an AXlink cable, or
with an optional auxiliary 12 VDC power supply. The maximum wiring
distance between the Master Controller and AXB-FBM is determined by
power consumption, supplied voltage, and the wire gauge used for the
cable.
NOTE: The far-end AXB-FBM and AXlink devices always require use of the
supplied auxiliary 12 VDC power supply.
Preparing captive wires
• Strip 0.25 inch of wire insulation off all wires.
• Insert each wire into the appropriate opening on the connector accord-
ing to the wiring diagrams and connector types described in this sec-
tion.
• Do not tighten the screws excessively; doing so may strip the threads
and damage the connector.

AXlink Status LED Blink Patterns
Master Mode: • Off - No power or the controller is not functioning properly.
• 1 blink per second - power is active and AXlink communication is
functioning.
• 2 blinks per second - devices specified in the master program do
not match the specified devices found.
• 3 blinks per second - indicates an AXlink communication error.
• Full-on - indicates the following conditions:
- There is no AXlink control or activity, but power is on.
- The AXCESS program is not loaded.
Slave Mode: • Off - No power or the controller is not functioning properly.
• 1 blink per second - Connected to Master.
• Full on - Slave is not connected to the Master.
