Your sfty Sense
sfty Sense is a complete home safety unit. It is a smoke
detector, which is always on – and a motion detector, that
you can turn on and off. In addition, sfty Sense measures
temperature and humidity. That’s a lot of things for a small,
battery-powered device to do - and it doesn’t end there.
sfty Sense is installed with a WiFi module – enabling it to
reach you and others over the Internet through the app.
Inside the box you’ll find:
- sfty Sense
- Remote control
- 4 x AA 1.5V Lithium battery (Energizer L91-FR6)
- Velcro wall fixing for remote control
- Screws
- tools key
- User guides
Requirements for connection:
- A 2.4 Ghz WiFi network
- An iOS or Android smartphone
- A free app downloaded from Apple app Store or Google
Play.

Setup and Installation
4
Before you start, make sure to download the app from
AppStore or Google Play, and create an account. We
recommend you have our “Quick Guide” beside you
when installing your sfty Sense.
Connect your phone to your WiFi network. Only 2.4
Ghz is supported. (2,4 Ghz is the most common WiFi
network).
1) Add new device
Tap the menu button on the app main page
Tap “Add new product or service”
Tap on the picture of the sfty Sense
Tap on “Create a new home”
3) Select device
Read the information and tap next.
Type in your Wi-Fi password then tap next
Insert batteries and select your sfty Sense
device
2) Name
Name your new home and tap next. Then
choose a 4-digit PIN code for your remote
control and tap next.
4) Connect device
Your sfty Sense will now start to configure.
The app will prompt when the sfty Sense is
successfully installed.
You can have up to 25 devices connected together.
The devices require WiFi to be interconnected. If one
device detects smoke and triggers an alarm, all the
connected devices will sound their alarm. If you press
and hold the test button on one of your devices, the
connected devices will sound their siren for 5 seconds
and the selected trustees will receive a notification.
During a low battery warning, the motion detector will
be disabled, and there is no interconnection between
the device and other devices, but the smoke detector
will remain active as long as there is battery left.
Is your WiFi network 2.4 Ghz? (5 Ghz is not
supported)
Did you type in the correct password?
Was the WiFi light pulsating blue during
installation? (If not - take out one battery
and put it back in again). It should be
pulsating as soon as you start
Tried restarting your phone?

Placing and mounting your sfty Sense
Place the bracket to the ceiling using the glue pads,
then mount it with the screws.
Once it is firmly mounted, carefully place the sfty
Sense into the bracket. You will not be able to place
the sfty Sense in the bracket without batteries.
Remember to place the batteries in the right direction,
look for the +/- in the battery compartment. Place the
battery with the + end first and then press down the -
end.
Do NOT place the sfty Sense nearby air conditioners
that could prevent the smoke reaching the detector
sensor.
Do NOT place the sfty Sense near ovens or other
sources that provide cooking fumes or steam. This
can cause false alarms.
Do NOT attempt to insert the sfty Sense in the
bracket without batteries
Give the motion sensor some room
You should try to position your sfty Sense at least 1m
from any wall, to allow its motion sensor a decent area
to detect movement. If you are mounting your sfty
Sense on a sloped ceiling, be sure to place it at least
1m from the top.
Find a spot with great WiFi coverage
As sfty Sense relies on your WiFi, make
sure that the spot you choose has good or great
coverage. A weak WiFi signal will make it less reliable
and also reduce the battery life of the sfty Sense.

General maintenance
Cleaning your sfty Sense
Your sfty Sense doesn’t need much maintenance but
you should keep it clean as dust buildup can prevent
it from working properly.
We recommend you first push the test button to
desensitise the device for 10 minutes.
Remove the sfty Sense from the ceiling or wall. Wipe
the outside with a clean, slightly damp cloth
Gently vacuum the inside from the slits on the outside
Note: Never use detergents or solvents (like glass
cleaner) on your sfty Sense and do not spray air
fresheners, hair spray or other aerosols near it. Do
not get water inside the alarm or paint over it.
Testing the device
Test your sfty Sense once a month by pressing and
holding the Test button. Once you release the alarm
will stop. If you have multiple devices in your home,
the siren on the devices will sound for 5 seconds. You
can read more about testing your sfty Sense on page
9.
Note: Because of dust and dirt buildup, we
recommend you to replace your Sense within 10
years.
Changing the batteries
The batteries should be changed once a year. Make it
a habit to change the batteries on December 1. This is
the month when the most fires occur!
It is important to test the alarm after switching
batteries, to make sure the device works properly.
This can be done by holding the test button.
If your sfty Sense starts to beep once every three
hours, or if you receive messages about a low battery
in the app, the batteries need to be replaced. Always
keep an extra set of batteries in your fridge.
Remember to place the batteries in the right direction,
look for the +/- sign in the battery compartment.
Note:
- Use 4 Lithium AA batteries, Energizer L91-FR6 only.
- Non-rechargeable batteries, do NOT try to recharge.
WARNING
Risk of explosion if the battery is not replaced
correctly. Replace only with the same or a similar
type as mentioned above. Dispose of used
batteries according to manufacturer's
instructions.

Software upgrades
One of the great things about sfty Sense is that it can
be upgraded over the air (WiFi). When improvements
or new features become available you will receive a
notification about it in the app. All you have to do is
give your approval and the upgrade will be performed.
The actual upgrade takes less than thirty seconds.
During this short period, normal operation will be
suspended. You will receive a new notification in the
app when the upgrade is complete. If the sfty Sense
detects smoke, no upgrade will be performed until the
smoke is cleared.

Alarm sensitivity
The sfty Sense allows you to set the right sensitivity
for your alarm, so that your pet can move around, or if
e.g. you have a robotic vacuum cleaner.
In settings for a home, you will find the sensitivity
setting and can test what works best for you.

Key functionality
Burglar alarm
Your sfty Sense is installed with motion detection
which works as a burglar alarm that you can turn ON
and OFF through the app. Activation is never instant -
but the app will tell you how long activation will take.
Once the burglar alarm is fully active, any motion
matching the sensitivity settings will trigger a 60
second alarm countdown (recognized by gentle
double-beeps) and following that (if not turned OFF) -
a local alarm sirene. Home users with the appropriate
rights will also receive an alarm on their phone.
To turn ON the burglar alarm using the app
Tap the burglar alarm switch to ON on the app home
screen. The app will tell you how long until the burglar
alarm is active.
To turn OFF the burglar alarm using the app
Tap the burglar alarm switch to OFF on the app home
screen. Your devices will stop counting down or
cancel an ongoing alarm between 1 and 15 seconds
(depending on your WiFi internet response time)
Remote control
In case your phone is out of battery or unavailable, or
you have someone in the house that does not have a
supported mobile device, the remote control is your
backup. Turn your burglar alarm ON orOFF with these
steps:
Make sure that the test/mute button lights up blue for
each press!
1) Point your remote directly at the sfty
Sense
2) Hold ON or OFF in for a few seconds
3) Enter your 4-digit PIN code with firm, slow
presses
4) Press ON or OFF firmly again
Example: ON 1234 ON -- OFF 1234 OFF
Use of the burglar alarm is restricted if the device has
entered its low-battery-state near the end of its
battery-life.
V1.3, January 2018 9
Smoke detection
The smoke detector is always on. If smoke is
detected, all trustees added to your home will be
notified and the alarm siren in sfty Sense will sound
until smoke is no longer detected.
If you trigger the smoke alarm by accident, you can
either push the test button to desensitise the sfty
Sense for 10 minutes (see “Test Button”),
alternatively pull the device out from its bracket and
blow hard into the slits on its side to remove
remaining smoke from the chamber.
Testing your smoke detector is recommended and
can be done by using a smoke pen. Light the pen and
let it burn for a few seconds before you blow out the
flame and direct the smoke towards your sfty Sense.
Clear the smoke (if needed, blow into the slits) to end
the alarm.
We suggest notifying any trustees added to your
home before testing, so they know to expect an
alarm.
Test Button
The test button is on top of the sfty Sense and also
doubles as an indicator that emits colored light signals
in various situations.
A (short) press on the test button will desensitise the
device for 10 minutes, which will enable e.g, cooking
or other activities that may cause smoke, without an
alarm sounding. A short beep confirms that the
sensitivity has been reduced. Note: If smoke levels are
very high,
the alarm will still go off.
Pressing and holding the test button while all alarms
are off will trigger a test alarm and the test button will
show a solid red light. If you have multiple devices
connected to your home, the devices will sound their
siren for 5 seconds and trustees added will receive an
alarm. Pressing the test button during a smoke alarm
will desensitise the siren for 10 minutes so you can
clear the smoke. If the sfty Sense still detects smoke
after 10 minutes, the alarm will go off again. If you
have multiple devices in your home, all the devices will
mute while the test button is pressed. If you mute one
of the devices that did not detect smoke, the alarm will
go off again within seconds.
The test button will pulse red if smoke is detected,
indicating a smoke warning. If the smoke level
increases, the button will turn solid red and the smoke
alarm will sound its siren.

Light and sound signals
Test / Mute button light Motion sensor light
Device started / rebooted
When the device is first powered (or rebooted) the
test/mute button will flash blue and red once to
indicate that the device is booting up. This also
occurs after the device has performed a software
upgrade.
Alive
The light in the motion sensor will gently blink green
every 30 seconds to show you that your sfty Sense is
alive.
Installing or trying WiFi after booting
After the device has powered up - it will check if it has
a working WiFi configuration. If it does not, it will go
into installation/re-configuration mode for up to 3
minutes. During this WiFi check (and the possibly
following installation mode) it will be flashing blue.
Low battery warning
This light will blink yellow and the device will emit a
short beep every three hours if the battery level falls
so low that the device goes into power saving mode.
In this mode, motion detection is disabled and the
device will no longer report through WiFi, but smoke
detection, local radio and the siren will still work.
Firmware upgrade
Very rapid blue flashes means the device is currently
updating itself with new firmware.
Configuration received
A steady blue light means that the device has
received a configuration file from our server and
everything should be ok. This happens at the end of a
successful installation and at some point after a
reboot of the device.
