1.1 Safety Notes
This manual contains NOTES, CAUTIONS, and WARNINGS which must be followed to prevent the possibility of
improper service, damage to the equipment, or personal injury.
Note:
Contains additional
information important to a procedure.
CAUTION:CAUTION:
CAUTION:CAUTION:
CAUTION: Provides information important to prevent
errors which could damage machine or components.
1.2 Laws Pertaining to Spark Arresters
Notice: State Health Safety Codes and Public Resources Codes specify that in certain locations spark arresters be
used on internal combustion engines that use hydrocarbon fuels. A spark arrester is a device designed to prevent
accidental discharge of sparks or flames from the engine exhaust. Spark arresters are qualified and rated by the United
States Forest Service for this purpose.
In order to comply with local laws regarding spark arresters, consult the engine distributor or the local Health and Safety
Administrator.
WARNING
Warns of conditions or practices which
could lead to personal injury or death!

B5000 OPERATION 1A
1.3 Operating Safety
Familiarity and proper training are required for the safe operation of equipment! Equipment operated improperly or by
untrained personnel can be dangerous! Read the operating instructions contained in both this manual and the engine
manual and familiarize yourself with the location and proper use of all controls.
WARNING
NEVER allow improperly trained people to operate
this equipment. People operating this equipment
must be familiar with the potential risks and hazards
associated with it.
NEVER touch engine or muffler while power unit is
operating or immediately after it has been turned off.
These areas get hot and may cause burns.
NEVER use accessories or attachments which are
not recommended by WACKER for this equipment.
Damage to equipment and/or injury to user may
result.
NEVER use this machine for any application other
than vibrating concrete.
NEVER leave machine running unattended.
ALWAYS read, understand, and follow procedures
in Operators Manual before attempting to operate
equipment.
ALWAYS be sure operator is familiar with proper
safety precautions and operation techniques before
using power unit.
ALWAYS be sure power unit is on a firm, level
surface and will not tip, roll, slide, or fall while
operating.
ALWAYS close fuel valve on engines equipped with
one, when power unit is not being operated.
ALWAYS store equipment properly when it is not
being used. Equipment should be stored in a clean,
dry location out of the reach of children.
ALWAYS keep hands, feet, and loose clothing
away from moving parts of equipment.
ALWAYS wear protective clothing when operat-
ing equipment. For instance, goggles or safety
glasses will protect eyes from damage caused by
flying debris.
ALWAYS operate power unit with all safety
devices and guards in place and in working
order.
WARNING
DO NOT run machine indoors or in an enclosed
area such as a deep trench unless adequate
ventilation, through such items as exhaust fans
or hoses, is provided. Exhaust gas from the en-
gine contains poisonous carbon monoxide gas;
exposure to carbon monoxide can cause loss of
consciousness and may lead to death.
ALWAYS refill fuel tank in well-ventilated area.
ALWAYS replace fuel tank cap after refueling.
DO NOT smoke while operating power unit.
DO NOT smoke when refueling engine.
DO NOT refuel hot or running engine.
DO NOT refuel engine near open flame.
DO NOT spill fuel when refueling engine.
DO NOT operate near open flames.
1.4 Operator Safety while using Internal Combustion Engines
Internal combustion engines present special hazards during operation and fueling! Failure to follow the safety
guidelines described below could result in severe injury or death.
1A-4
1A OPERATION B50001
1.5 Service Safety
Poorly maintained equipment can become a safety hazard! In order for the equipment to operate safely and properly
over a long period of time, periodic maintenance and occasional repairs are necessary.
WARNING
DO NOT attempt to clean or service power unit while
it is running. Rotating parts can cause severe injury.
DO NOT crank a flooded engine with the spark plug
removed on gasoline-powered engines. Fuel trapped
in the cylinder will squirt out the spark plug opening.
DO NOT test for spark on gasoline-powered en-
gines, if engine is flooded or the smell of gasoline is
present. A stray spark could ignite fumes.
DO NOT use gasoline or other types of fuels or
flammable solvents to clean parts, especially in
enclosed areas. Fumes from fuels and solvents can
accumulate and become explosive.
ALWAYS operate power unit with all safety devices
and guards in place and in working order.
ALWAYS keep area around muffler free of debris
such as leaves, paper, cartons, etc. A hot muffler
could ignite them, starting a fire.
ALWAYS replace worn or damaged components with
spare parts designed and recommended by WACKER
for servicing this machine.
ALWAYS remove or disconnect spark plug on power
units equipped with gasoline engines, before servic-
ing power unit, to avoid accidental start-up.

The required sound specifications, per Appendix 1, Paragraph 1.7.4.f of the EC-Machine Regulations, are:
- the sound pressure level at operators location (L
pA
) = 87 dB(A)
- the sound power level (L
WA
) = 97 dB(A)
These sound values were determined according to ISO 3744 for the sound power level (L
WA
) and ISO 6081 for
the sound pressure level (L
pA
) at the operators location.
The weighted effective acceleration value, determined according to ISO 8662 Part 1, is 5.1 m/s
2
.
The sound and vibration measurements were obtained with the unit operating at nominal speed.

1.9 Application
This power unit is intended for on-site vibration of concrete for foundations, walls, columns, slab work, etc. For in-plant
vibration of concrete during the production of pipes, slabs, beams, double Ts, columns and walls, WACKER
recommends the use of M1000, M2000, and M3000 electric power units.
1.10 Recommended Fuel
The engine requires regular grade unleaded gasoline.
Use only fresh, clean gasoline. Gasoline containing
water or dirt will damage fuel system. Consult engine
owners manual for complete fuel specifications.
1.11 Before Starting
1. Read safety instructions at the beginning of this
manual.
2. Place the unit on a firm, flat, level surface.
3. Check fuel level, engine oil level, and condition of air
cleaner.
b
a
1034SD02
1.12 Operation
1. Start the engine without a flexshaft attached to the
power unit, run the engine for 1½–2 minutes to allow
it to warm up, then shut it off.
Note:
The power unit is designed to accept a quick-
disconnect coupler in order to make it easier to attach a
flexshaft.
2. Attach the flexshaft as follows:
Align the coupler-shaft combination with the power
unit coupling hub (a).
Raise the detent pin (b) and the slip coupler into
place.
Rotate the coupler until the detent pin seats in the
coupler socket and the coupler is held securely in
place.
WARNING
Do not attach the flexshaft while the engine is
running! Hand injury could result!
3. Start the engine and run it at full speed while operating
the power unit.

1.17 Air Cleaner
Service air cleaner frequently to prevent carburetor
malfunction.
NEVER run engine without air cleaner. Severe engine
damage will occur.
The engine is equipped with a dual element air cleaner.
1. Remove air cleaner cover (e). Remove both ele-
ments and inspect them for holes or tears. Replace
elements if damaged. Undamaged elements may be
cleaned and reused.
2. To clean foam element (f):
Wash in solution of mild detergent and warm water.
Rinse thoroughly in clean water. Allow element to dry
thoroughly. Once dry, soak element in clean engine
oil and squeeze out excess.
