This manual provides information and procedures to safely operate
and maintain this Wacker model. For your own safety and protection

instructions described in this manual.

2. Safety Information
This manual contains DANGER, WARNING, CAUTION, and NOTE
callouts which must be followed to reduce the possibility of personal
injury, damage to the equipment, or improper service.
This is the safety alert symbol. It is used to alert you to potential
personal injury hazards. Obey all safety messages that follow this
symbol to avoid possible injury or death.
DANGER indicates an imminently hazardous situation which, if not

2.1 Operating Safety
Notice: State Health Safety Codes and Public Resources Codes
specify that in certain locations spark arresters be used on internal
combustion engines that use hydrocarbon fuels. A spark arrester is a
device designed to prevent accidental discharge of sparks or flames
from the engine exhaust. Spark arresters are qualified and rated by
the United States Forest Service for this purpose.
In order to comply with local laws regarding spark arresters, consult
the engine distributor or the local Health and Safety Administrator.
Familiarity and proper training are required for the safe operation of
equipment! Equipment operated improperly or by untrained personnel
can be dangerous! Read the operating instructions contained in both
this manual and the engine manual and familiarize yourself with the
location and proper use of all controls. Inexperienced operators should
receive instruction from someone familiar with the equipment before
being allowed to operate the machine.
2.1.1 NEVER touch the engine or muffler while the engine is on or
immediately after it has been turned off. These areas get hot and may
cause burns.
2.1.2 NEVER use accessories or attachments that are not recommended by
Wacker. Damage to equipment and injury to the user may result.
2.1.3 NEVER leave machine running unattended.
2.1.4 NEVER operate the machine with the belt guard missing. Exposed
drive belt and pulleys create potentially dangerous hazards that can
cause serious injuries.
2.1.5 NEVER run machine indoors or in an enclosed area unless adequate
ventilation, through such items as exhaust fans or hoses, is provided.
Exhaust gas from the engine contains poisonous carbon monoxide
gas; exposure to carbon monoxide can cause loss of consciousness
and may lead to death.
2.1.6 ALWAYS wear protective clothing appropriate to the job site when
operating equipment.
2.1.7 ALWAYS wear hearing protection when operating equipment.
2.1.8 ALWAYS wear protective clothing appropriate to the job site when

2.1.9 ALWAYS read, understand, and follow procedures in Operator's
Manual before attempting to operate equipment.
2.1.10 ALWAYS check that all controls are functioning properly immediately

2.1.11 ALWAYS close fuel valve on engines equipped with one when
machine is not being operated.
2.1.12 ALWAYS store equipment properly when it is not being used.
Equipment should be stored in a clean, dry location out of the reach of
children.
2.1.13 ALWAYS operate machine with all safety devices and guards in place
and in working order.
2.1.14 ALWAYS operate screed along even forms. Avoid objects protruding
from concrete such as stakes or plumbing that would interfere with
screed operation.
2.2 Operator Safety while using Internal Combustion Engines
Internal combustion engines present special hazards during operation
and fueling! Read and follow warning instructions in engine owner's
manual and safety guidelines below. Failure to follow warnings and
safety guidelines could result in severe injury or death.
2.2.1 DO NOT smoke while operating machine.
2.2.2 DO NOT smoke when refueling engine.
2.2.3 DO NOT refuel hot or running engine.
2.2.4 DO NOT refuel engine near open flame.
2.2.5 DO NOT run engine near open flames.
2.2.6 ALWAYS refill fuel tank in well-ventilated area.
2.2.7 ALWAYS replace fuel tank cap after refueling.

2.3 Service Safety
Poorly maintained equipment can become a safety hazard! In order
for the equipment to operate safely and properly over a long period of
time, periodic maintenance and occasional repairs are necessary.
2.3.1 DO NOT attempt to clean or service machine while it is running.
Rotating parts can cause severe injury.
2.3.2 DO NOT crank a flooded engine with the spark plug removed on
gasoline-powered engines. Fuel trapped in the cylinder will squirt out
the spark plug opening.
2.3.3 DO NOT test for spark on gasoline-powered engines, if engine is
flooded or the smell of gasoline is present. A stray spark could ignite
fumes.
2.3.4 DO NOT use gasoline or other types of fuels or flammable solvents to
clean parts, especially in enclosed areas. Fumes from fuels and
solvents can become explosive.
2.3.5 ALWAYS keep area around muffler free of debris such as leaves,
paper, cartons, etc. A hot muffler could ignite them, starting a fire.
2.3.6 ALWAYS replace worn or damaged components with spare parts
designed and recommended by Wacker.
2.3.7 ALWAYS disconnect spark plug on machines equipped with gasoline
engines, before servicing, to avoid accidental start-up.
2.3.8 ALWAYS keep machine clean and labels legible. Replace all missing
and hard-to-read labels. Labels provide important operating
instructions and warn of dangers and hazards.
2.3.9 ALWAYS handle cables carefully. The cables can fray and develop
sharp edges which can cause serious cuts.

4. Operation
4.1 Application
This screed is a modern, high production machine intended to provide
consolidation of concrete while striking off and closing concrete
surfaces. The vibratory motion, consolidation, and closing action are
controlled by the engine speed. Wacker screeds are easily put
together to form desired lengths for all finishing applications. Finishing
rates will depend on operator skill and job conditions.
DO NOT use this machine for any application other than screeding
concrete.
4.2 Recommended Fuel
The engine requires regular grade unleaded gasoline. Use only fresh,
clean gasoline. Gasoline containing water or dirt will damage fuel
system. Consult engine owner’s manual for complete fuel
specifications.
4.3 New Machine Set-up

Screeds are shipped from the factory with the engine, beltguard, and
end winch section removed. These components need to be
assembled prior to use.
Screeds are shipped from the factory in various sections and lengths.
Sections need to be assembled and aligned prior to use. Follow
Installing Screed Sections and Aligning the Screed when setting up
new machines or when installing new sections.

To assemble the engine:
4.3.1 Mount engine bracket (a) to the right side of the screed. There are two
vacant holes (approx. 6th or 7th hole from end) to mount the bracket
using hardware (*) and mounting plate (b) provided.
4.3.2 Mount engine (c) to bracket using hardware (*) provided. Do not
tighten, engine must be moved to adjust belt tension.
4.3.3 Mount back plate (d) to engine bracket (a) using hardware (*) provided.
Mount clutch (e) to engine. Loop belt (f) around clutch (e).
4.3.4 Slide engine back on slots to create tension on the belt. Adjust belt for
1/2"–5/8" deflection midway between clutch and pulley. Tighten
engine mounting hardware.
4.3.5 Mount back plate (d) to lower beltguard (g) using hardware (*)
provided. Mount belt guard bracket (h) to back plate (d) and lower
beltguard (g) using hardware (*) provided.
4.3.6 Mount upper beltguard (j) to back plate (d) using hardware (*)
provided.
To assemble the end winch section:
4.3.1 Mount upright section (k) to two end holes of the lower screed frame
(m) and end hole of upper frame support (n) using hardware (*)
provided.
4.3.2 Mount winch assemblies (o) to top of end section using hardware (*)
provided.
Note: Configure winch assemblies as shown for proper cable
alignment.
* For specific hardware sizes and quantities, refer to Instruction Sheet
P/N 0151589.

4.4 Freewheeling the Crank

To make it easier when routing cables through guides or extending
across forms, freewheeling the crank is an option. To do this:
4.4.1 Give a hard counterclockwise turn to the crank handle (a) and continue
until handle unthreads from winch spool assembly (b).
4.4.2 Cable is now able to be pulled freely to desired length.
4.4.3 Replace crank handle before operating screed.

4.5 Installing Screed Sections

Wacker screed sections are connected in two places: at the top with T-
bolts (a) and at the bottom with a connector plate (b).
Each screed section has a coarse and a fine side, determined by the
top tube T-bolt connector threads. These T-bolts are critical to
alignment of the screed, so it is important to insure the integrity of the
threads.
The connector plate permanently mounts to the coarse end of the
screed section. It is secured to the section with shoulder bolts (c), lock
nuts (d) and lock washers (e). The connector plate also carries a
flange bearing (f) that guides and aligns the eccentric shaft (g).
Note: Remember to always leave the connector plate attached to the
coarse section end and disconnect from the fine side.
For initial setup:
4.5.1 Lay the sections of screed on a flat surface and install the connector
plate (b) to the coarse side.
4.5.2 Align the back T-blades and slide the two sections together while
guiding the eccentric shaft (g) into the mating surface of the flange
bearing (f).
Note: While assembling the sections, make sure that the T-bolts are
threaded into the top tube so they don’t make contact with each other
and impede the alignment of the connector plate.
Once the sections are in place, you may proceed with loosly bolting the
connector plate to the fine side of the screed. A tapered pin punch (h)
inserted through the bolt holes will aid in the alignment of the bracket.
Repeat this until all remaining mounting hardware is in place.
At this time, the T-bolts can be adjusted so that they are at an equal
distance between the assembled sections (i). Install the connecting
hardware (k) and tighten. Leave the jam nuts (m) loose for the next
step which is truing the screed.
Note: Once T-bolts have been adjusted at an equal distance, tighten
all hardware making sure screed sections stay level.
