Poor image which is round weak density / poor image which is
weak density band, they occur due to using left paper in a low-
humidity environment.
[Symptom]
Poor image which is round weak density [a] or poor image which is weak density band [b] may occur when a high density image
is printed out with the paper which is left outside of the machine in a low-humidity environment. Only one poor image occurs at
times, some poor images occur at other times.
The arrow [c] indicates the feed direction.
[Cause]
Electric resistance of the paper is higher because the paper is dehydrated by leaving in a low-humidity environment.
Electric resistance at the timing of the passing of 2nd side of 2-sided print is higher because the moisture of the paper is lost
when the 1st side is fixed.
Electric resistance of feeding roller is higher because moisture content in the air is low under the low-humidity environment.
Transferring of a high density image needs higher secondary transfer voltage than that of a low density image.
When the total electric resistance of the paper and the roller is higher than expected at the Secondary transfer Assembly, the
above symptom occurs because of insufficient secondary transfer voltage.
Especially when the 2nd side has high density image, the symptom is easy to occur.
[Service work]
[Reference]
Improving a state of preservation of paper may be effective in resolving a trouble in some cases.
Explain to a customer that unused or remaining paper should be stored by being covered with wrapping paper in a place avoiding
direct sunlight.
Choose and perform between the below a) and b).
a) Increase the secondary transfer voltage in User mode.
a-1) Log in to the User mode with "System administration mode".
a-2) Go to Select Settings/Registration > Personal Settings ( Device Settings ) > Preferences > Paper Settings > Paper Type
Management Settings , select an appropriate paper type from among the list, press "Duplicate" button and then "OK" button.
a-3) Enter any name as the duplicated paper type and press "OK" button.
a-4) Select the paper type duplicated in the step a-3) and press "Details/Edit".
a-5) Change the setting value by pressing " Change " button of "Adj. secondary transfer voltage " .
- When the symptom occurs on the 1st side o f 1-sided print or 2-sided print, change the setting value of "Front side" to "3" and
then press "OK".
- When the symptom occurs on the 2nd side of 2-sided print, change the setting value of "Back side" to "3" and then press "OK".
The range of setting is from "-80" to "80" ("0" by default).
As the setting value is changed by 1, the secondary transfer voltage changes by 50V.
1
a-6) Set media as duplicated paper type and then output the image having shown the symptom and check
that the symptom does not occur.
If the symptom does not improve sufficiently, reduce the setting value in the step a-5) by "3" at a time up to "18" until the symptom
improves enough.
[Caution] Poor transfer may occur due to too high secondary transfer voltage if the setting value is changed.
If the symptom does not improve, look into other causes.
b) Increase the secondary transfer voltage in Service mode.
[Note] When the above Service Mode is not displayed, install the latest system software.
The secondary transfer voltage setting works only when all the conditions (mode/environment/paper type) registered beforehand
are met.
16 different patterns can be set from "TR-DUP1" to "TR-DUP16".
The below procedure is to set "TR-DUP1".
b-1) Go to Service mode (Level 2) > Mode List > COPIER > Adjust > HV-TR > and change the setting value of "TR-DUP1".
- If the symptom occurs in 1-sided print mode, check if the value is "11".
- If the symptom occurs on the 2nd side in auto 2-sided mode, change the value to "12".
- If the symptom occurs on the 2nd side in multi-purpose tray 2-sided mode, change the value to "13".
The range of setting is from "11" to "43" ("11" by default).
b-2) Go to Service mode (Level 2) > Mode List > COPIER > Adjust > HV-TR > and confirm if the setting value of "TR-ENV1" is
set to "1".
The range of setting is from "1" to "3" ("1" by default).
b-3) Choose the appropriate value from among the below tables according to the used paper type and apply it to the setting value
of Service mode (Level 2) > Mode List > COPIER > Adjust > HV-TR > "TR-PPR1".
The range of setting is from "1" to "33" ("1" by default).
b-4) Go to Service mode (Level 2) > Mode List > COPIER > Adjust > HV-TR > and change the setting value of "TR-VL1" to "5".
The range of setting is from "-128" to "+127" ("0" by default).
As the setting value is changed by 1, the secondary transfer voltage changes by 30V.
b-5) Output the image having shown the symptom, and check that the symptom does not occur.
If the symptom does not improve sufficiently, reduce the setting value in the step b-4) by "5" at a time up to "30" until the symptom
improves enough.
[Caution] Poor transfer may occur due to too high secondary transfer voltage if the setting value is changed.
If the symptom does not improve, look into other causes.

Image blanking on the trailing edge of the second side of sheet
with heavy paper under a low humidity environment
[Symptom]
When a heavy paper is used under a low humidity environment, image blanking [a] may occur on the trailing edge of the second
side of the sheet.
This symptom does not occur when the trailing edge margin of the second side is 4mm or more.
The arrow [b] indicates the direction of feeding.
[Cause]
If the trailing edge of paper flaps when it passes through the guide [a] just before the secondary transfer assembly, a tiny space
[d] may be formed between the trailing edge [b] of paper just in front of the nip of the secondary transfer roller and ITB [c].
If electricity is discharged in this space, polarity of toner on ITB changes and the toner will not be transferred onto the paper. This
results in the above mentioned symptom.
This symptom is likely to occur when a rigid and thick coated paper is used under a low humidity environment where the set value
of the secondary transfer voltage is high.
[Service work]
Choose and perform among the below a), b) and c) according to the conditions under which the customer is operating.
a) Widen the trailing edge margin of the sheet
a-1) Increase the setting value of Service mode > Mode List > COPIER > Adjust > BLANK > [BLANK-B].
Change of the adjustment value by "1" increases the trailing edge margin of the sheet 0.04mm.
The range of setting is from "0" to "1000"
[Caution] Change of the setting increases the trailing edge margins of all the output with a media other than "thin paper/recycled
paper 2".
a-2) Output the image having shown the symptom, and check that the symptom does not occur.
If the symptom has not improved sufficiently, fine-tune the setting values in the steps a-1)
b) Extend the range where trail edge weak bias is applied.
3
b-1) Increase the setting value of Service mode (Lv2) > Mode List > COPIER > Adjust > HV-TR > [B2TR-LNG].
Change of the adjustment value by "1" extends the range where trail edge weak bias is applied 0.1mm.
The range of setting is from "-100" to "+100" ("0" by default).
[Caution] The change of this setting that lowers the secondary transfer voltage of the paper trailing edge part (the range of
correction amount) of all the output sheets may result in a mottling image with a high density image.
b-2) Output the image having shown the symptom, and check that the symptom does not occur.
If the symptom has not improved sufficiently, fine-tune the setting values in the steps b-1)
c) Lower the secondary transfer voltage applied to trailing edge with customized settings
The secondary transfer voltage setting works only when all the conditions (mode/environment/paper type) registered beforehand
are met.
16 different patterns are registerable by registering the settings to each "TR-DUP1" to "TR-DUP16".
The below procedure is to set "TR-DUP1".
c-1) Go toService mode (Level 2) > Mode List > COPIER > Adjust > HV-TR > and change the setting value of "TR-DUP1".
- If the symptom occurs in 1-sided mode, change the value to "41".
- If the symptom occurs on the second side in auto 2-sided mode, change the value to "42".
- If the symptom occurs on the second side in multi-purpose tray 2-sided mode, change the value to "43".
The range of setting is from "11" to "43" ("11" by default).
c-2) Go to Service mode (Level 2) > Mode List > COPIER > Adjust > HV-TR > and confirm if the setting value of "TR-ENV1" is
set to "1".
The range of setting is from "1" to "3" ("1" by default).
c-3) Choose the appropriate value from among the below tables according to the used paper type and apply it to the setting value
of Service mode (Level 2) > Mode List > COPIER > Adjust > HV-TR > "TR-PPR1".
The range of setting is from "1" to "25" ("1" by default).
c-4) Go to Service mode (Level 2) > Mode List > COPIER > Adjust > HV-TR > and change the setting value of "TR-VL1" to "-5".
The range of setting is from "-128" to "+127" ("0" by default).
Change the setting value by "1" changes the secondary transfer voltage 30V.
[Caution] The secondary transfer voltage of the paper trailing edge part is lowered and a mottling image may occur with a high
density image.
c-5) Output the image having shown the symptom, and check that the symptom does not occur.
If the symptom does not improve sufficiently, reduce the setting value in the step c-4) by "5" at a time down to "-30" until the
symptom improves enough.

Image blanking on the leading edge of sheet with heavy paper
under a low temperature environment
[Symptom]
When a heavy paper is used under a low temperature environment, image blanking [a] may occur on the leading edge.
This symptom does not occur when the leading edge margin is 4mm or more.
The arrow [b] indicates the direction of feeding.
[Cause]
If feeding hard heavy paper into machine, a tiny space may be formed between the trailing edge of paper just in front of the nip
of the secondary transfer roller and ITB as the paper [a] presses ITB [b] toward inside while being fed.
If electricity is discharged in this space, polarity of toner on ITB changes and the toner will not be transferred onto the paper. This
results in the above mentioned symptom. This symptom is likely to occur in a low humidity environment where the set value of
the secondary transfer voltage is high.
[Service work]
Choose and perform among the below a), b) and c) according to the conditions under which the customer is operating.
a) Widen the leading edge margin of the sheet
a-1) Increase the setting value of Service mode > Mode List > COPIER > Adjust > BLANK > [BLANK-T].
Change of the adjustment value by "1" increases the leading edge margin of the sheet 0.04mm.
The range of setting is from "0" to "1000"
[Caution] Change of the setting increases the trailing edge margins of all the output.
a-2) Output the image having shown the symptom, and check that the symptom does not occur.
If the symptom has not improved sufficiently, fine-tune the setting values in the steps a-1)
b) Extend the range where leading edge weak bias is applied.
b-1) Increase the setting value of Service mode (Lv2) > Mode List > COPIER > Adjust > HV-TR > [T2TR-LNG].
Change of the adjustment value by "1" extends the range where leading edge weak bias is applied 0.1mm.
The range of setting is from "-100" to "+100" ("0" by default).
5
[Caution] The change of this setting that lowers the secondary transfer voltage of the paper leading edge part (the range of
correction amount) of all the output sheets may result in a mottling image with a high density image.
b-2) Output the image having shown the symptom, and check that the symptom does not occur.
If the symptom has not improved sufficiently, fine-tune the setting values in the steps b-1)
c) Lower the secondary transfer voltage applied to leading edge with customized settings.
The secondary transfer voltage setting works only when all the conditions (mode/environment/paper type) registered beforehand
are met.

- If the symptom occurs on the second side in auto 2-sided mode, change the value to "32".
- If the symptom occurs on the second side in multi-purpose tray 2-sided mode, change the value to "33".
The range of setting is from "11" to "43" ("11" by default).
c-2) Go to Service mode (Level 2) > Mode List > COPIER > Adjust > HV-TR > and change the setting value of " TR-ENV1".
- If the issue occurs in a low humidity environment (under 6.11g/m3), make sure that the value is set to "1".
- If the issue occurs in a normal humidity environment (from 6.12 to 15.68g/m3), make sure that the value is set to "2".
- If the issue occurs in a high humidity environment (over 15.69g/m3), make sure that the value is set to"3".
The range of setting is from "1" to "3" ("1" by default).
[Reference] Absolute moisture content (g/m3) can be checked in Service Mode > Mode List > COPIER > Display > ANALOG >
"ABS-HUM".
c-3) Choose the appropriate value from among the below tables according to the used paper type and apply it to the setting value
of Service mode (Level 2) > Mode List > COPIER > Adjust > HV-TR > "TR-PPR1".
[Caution] The secondary transfer voltage of the paper leading edge part is lowered and a mottling image may occur with a high
density image.
If the symptom does not improve sufficiently, reduce the setting value in the step c-4) by "5" at a time down to "-30" until the
symptom improves enough.

Measures when paper is not stapled (corner/double) after
installation (Inner Finisher-G1/H1/K1)
[Symptom]
In operation of stapling (corner/double) after installation of Inner Finisher, paper may not be stapled.
[Cause]
When installing Inner Finisher, distortion may occur in Inner Finisher.
If the center return belt guide [1] on the front side slips into the edge of the assist unit sheet metal [2] due to this distortion, paper
in staple operation is caught on by the center return belt guide and is not fed up to the stapling position, resulting in the above-
mentioned symptom.
[Service work]
If the above-mentioned symptom occurs, remove the center return belt guide from slipping into state.
1) Insert approx. 20 sheets of A4 or LTR-size plain paper [1] through the delivery outlet [2] of Inner Finisher up to position [a] in
the arrow direction.
[Reference] If the paper retainer [1] blocks the delivery outlet, move the paper retainer in the arrow direction manually.
7
2) Remove the paper from the delivery outlet of Inner Finisher and perform stapling (corner/double) operation to check that the
symptom no longer occurs.
If the symptom does not improve, then check other factors.

Noise (an abnormal noise from meshing failure of tooth)/ toner
soiling inside the machine / stained images due to disengagement
between gears in the waste toner drive assembly
[Symptom]
The noise (the abnormal noise of meshing failure of tooth) from the waste toner drive assembly, toner soil in the machine or
stained images may occur.
[Cause]
If the claw [a] of laser wiper guide [1] of waste toner drive assembly comes off, 31T/15T gears [2] and 21T gear [3] do not mesh
with each other [b] and that results in the above-mentioned symptom.
[Service work]
When the aforementioned symptom occurs, remedy the part by implementing the following procedure.
1) Open the cover (front) in accordance with the Service Manual to remove the left cover (upper).
2) Hook the claw [a] of laser wiper guide [1] to the appropriate positon on the steel plate[2].
3) Make sure that there is no space at the meshing part [a] of 31T/15T gear [1] and 21T gear [2].
9
21T gear [2] may not be fixed firmly [b] when it is attached to the laser wiper guide. If the gear is not fixed firmly, fit again the 21T
gear [2] in the position until it clicks and make the shaft visible [c].
4) Mount the left cover (upper) and then close the front cover.

Measure against E674-0100
[Symptom]
E674-0100 may occur when FAX clearing and job canceling are executed.
[Cause]
When a job manipulation such as FAX job cancelation is executed just after the performance of All CLEAR of FAX (Service Mode
> Mode List > FAX > Clear > ALL) in a state that FAX jobs still remain, the data inconsistencies of FAX history data are detected
at the time of turning ON/OFF main power supply of the engine and then that results in the above symptom.
[Service work]
When E674-0100 continuously occurs even the main power supply of engine has been turned OFF/ON , execute again "Service
Mode > Mode List > FAX > Clear > ALL" and then turn OFF/ON the main power supply without job manipulations.
[Caution]
Make sure that no FAX job remains when executing ALL CLEAR of FAX.
Previous FAX communication information will be deleted when turning OFF/ON the main power supply after the FAX CLEAR.
