How to Install How to Install
Warning!
It is advisable to have an Öhlins dealer install the
shock absorber.
When installing, consult your Vehicle Service
Manual.
All models;
Put the vehicle on a workstand so that the
rear wheel barely touches the ground.
Warning!
Make sure the vehicle is securely supported so
that it will not tip.

Remove present Shock Absorbers.

Install the sleeve (converts metric to SAE) in
the bottom eye than install the ½”x 13 x 2
½” bolt and washer through the outside eye
than afx shock and bolt to the swing arm
than snug using your washer and ½”x 13
nut. No washer (spacer) should be necessary
unless clearance problems are caused by
swingarm/frame misalignment or aftermarket
accessories

Rotate shock upwards so the top bolt
mounting hole in the frame aligns with the
cylinder head bolt hole.

Look from the rear forward at the space (if
any) between the frame and the cylinder
head.

Caution!
Under no circumstances, never tighten the
mounting bolt to close the gap.
Add the appropriate amount of spacer(s)
to shim between cylinder head and frame
ensuring the cylinder head and the frame is
ush.

Note!
Lower the motorcycle so that the shock
absorber is sligthly compressed, before
tightening the screws.
For models from 1986-2008

Select the two metal brackets with the ange
edge on the lead side of the fender bracket.

Bolt the reservoir bracket onto the support
brackets use the existing threaded holes and
the existing OEM ¼” x 20 bolts, (2pcs).

Bolt the plastic reservoir mounting
brackets(2pcs) with the provided ¼” UNC x
16 bolts and the provided ¼” UNC nuts .

Slide the provided Stainless Steel clamps into
the plastic reservoir mounting brackets.

Slide the reservoir from the top down into the
mounting and tighten. You may use a strip of
electrical tape on the inside of the Stainless
Steel clamps to protect the reservoir’s nish.
For models from 2009 and forward

Select the two rubber brackets

Space the two reservoir rubber mounts onto
the rear saddlebag support to t the bottom
and the middle reservoir body.

Slide the opened provided Stainless Steel
clamps over the rubber reservoir mounting
brackets and the rear fender bracket support.

Slide the reservoir from the top down into the
mounting and tighten. Leave enough slack
for the reservoir hose to allow full motion. You
may use a strip of electrical tape on the inside
of the Stainless Steel clamps to protect the
reservoir’s nish.
Caution!
Make sure that all screws are tightened, and
that nothing fouls or restricts movement of the
shock absorber when the suspension is fully
compressed or extended.
