OVERVIEW OF OPERATOR INTERFACE
The zone controllers are setup and monitored by a
computer based machine control system. The controller
continuously monitors the conditions and operation of
connected zone controllers and directs their operation.
The panel user interface has been designed to allow an
operator to efficiently access and control the operation of
the zones. The control panel screen is used for graphic
screens. By pressing a key on the keypad, the labeled or
described function is recognized by the control processor.
The following information in this manual is presented to
help the operator interact with the graphic screens and the
Quantum™ evaporator control panel. This manual is
intended to describe all presently available features.
OPERATOR ACCESS
Operator access to this system is through various screens.
A screen is the physical representation of data on the
screen. Icons have been used to help an operator quickly
identify functions. An icon is a small graphic symbol
representation. Each screen has a title area. The title is
descriptive of the screen. The current date and time is
shown in this title area. The day of the week, Sunday
(Sun.) through Saturday (Sat.) is displayed. The month of
the year from January (Jan.) to December (Dec.) is
displayed. The day of the month from 1 to 31 and the year
from 0001 to 9999 is displayed. The time displayed is the
current time in 24 hours (military) format. The hours,
minutes and seconds are displayed. The labeled keys on
the panel keypad provide quick access to the operator's
needs. By pressing a labeled key on the keypad, the
corresponding function is recognized. Most of the screens
have keys that describe or show a function that is
recognized when the coinciding key found at the right of
the screen is pressed. The screen keys provide access to
other screens or commands. For easier viewing, related
information is separated into boxes. The setup and
setpoint entry is separated into logical control
components. Setup selection of features and options has
been provided to prevent the operator from unnecessary
viewing and entering of unused control settings. The
required control settings are clearly presented. To further
assist the operator, an on-line help is provided.
Sometimes selections appear differently to indicate that
the feature is unavailable.

KEYS AND KEY FUNCTIONS
KEYPAD KEYS
Following is a list of the labeled keypad keys and the
actions that occur when they are pressed:
[HOME] – If an operator is logged on to an individual
zone and the “Operating Status” screen is not
presently showing, then this zone’s “Operating
Status” screen is shown when this key is pressed.
Otherwise, the “Zone Overview” screen is shown. All
the pertinent readings and operational status of a
zone is shown on the “Operating Status” screen. An
overview of the most important information about all
the zones is shown on the “Zone Overview” screen.
[MENU] - Shows the “Main Menu” screen. This
screen has the main selections for an individual zone,
allowing access to information, setup of options, and
setpoint entry.
[HELP] - Displays the on-line “HELP”. Information is
shown for the operation of the evaporator control
panel.
[F1] - A function key that is only active when a screen
indicates it as a selection key. Its function is
dependent on what the screen indicates will occur.
[F2] - A function key that is only active when a screen
indicates it as a selection key. Its function is
dependent on what the screen indicates will occur.
NUMERALS [0] - [9] - The numerical keys are used
to enter a value in a data field.
DECIMAL [.] - The decimal point is used when
entering a decimal value in a data field.
[+/-] - When changing a value in a data field, this key
will toggle the value between negative and positive.
This key is also used to disable time fields on the
Defrost and Time Schedules.
[ENTER] - When changing data in a data entry field,
this key will input the change.
[PREVIOUS SCREEN] - Shows the screen that was
viewed previously to the current screen. Also is used
to return to the previous set of screen keys when
accessing different sets of screen key selections on
the same screen.
[DELETE] - When changing a value in a data field,
this key will delete the selected character.
Up Arrow [Ù]- When in the mode of changing
setpoints, this arrow is used to go to the previous data
entry field.
Down Arrow [Ú]- When in the mode of changing
setpoints, this arrow is used to go to the next data
entry field.
Right Arrow [>]- When in the mode of changing
setpoints, this arrow is used to go to the next data
entry field. When in the mode of changing a data
entry field, this arrow is used to go to the next
character.
Left Arrow [<]- When in the mode of changing
setpoints, this arrow is used to go to the previous data
entry field. When in the mode of changing a data
entry field, this arrow is used to go to the previous
character.

SCREEN KEYS
Screen keys are keys that are drawn on the right side of
screens. Screen keys provide access to other screens and
initiate program functions. A screen key is selected by
pressing the key on the panel screen that is to the right of
the screen key. Following are descriptions of the
commonly used screen keys:
[Change Setpoints] - When on a screen that has
adjustable setpoint values, this positions the cursor at
the first data entry field. (See “To Change Setpoints”
for more information.)
[OK] - When in the mode of changing setpoints, this
key accepts all data changes. It is also used to
acknowledge a displayed message.
[CANCEL] - When changing setpoints, this key
cancels all current changes. It is also used to
discontinue proceeding as a response to a warning
message.
Arrows - Available when changing setpoints, these
keys function the same as the panel keypad arrows.
[Increase Value] - Available when changing
setpoints, this key increases the selected setpoint by
one unit each time it is pressed.
[Decrease Value] - Available when changing
setpoints, this key decreases the selected setpoint by
one unit each time it is pressed.
[Up One] - Scrolls the data on the screen to show the
previous line of data.
[Down One] - Scrolls the data on the screen to show
the next line of data.
[Page Up] - Scrolls the data on the screen to show
the previous page of data.
[Page Down] - Scrolls the data on the screen to show
the next page of data.
[More…] - Available when the selections are on more
than one screen. Is used to go to the next selections.
[…Back] - Available when the selections are on more
than one screen. Is used to go back to the previous
selections.
[Goto Start] – Scrolls the data on the screen to show
the most recent data.
[Goto End] - Scrolls the data on the screen to show
the oldest data.
[Enable] - Available to place the indicated control
setpoints or option into usage.
[Disable] - Available to remove the usage of the
indicated control setpoints or option.
TO CHANGE SETPOINTS
The Quantum™ has the capability of

The setpoints define the operation and limits of the zones.
Adjustable setpoints are setpoints that an operator can
easily change in the field. These setpoints are stored in
EPROM (non-volatile memory).
NOTE: Adjustable Setpoints are not lost after power
is interrupted. However, we suggest recording the
Adjustable Setpoints and storing this information in a
secure location in case it becomes necessary to
return to the original settings.
1. From an adjustable setpoint screen, select the
[Change Setpoints] key. This positions the cursor at
the first data entry field. The data entry field that is
selected is identifiable by the black background and
white text.
2. Use the arrow keys to move the cursor to the data
entry field to be modified.
3. Having selected the setpoint to be changed, the
numerical keys and the decimal key may be used to
enter the new setpoint. Typing a new value will
completely erase the old value.
4. To remove a typing mistake, the left and right arrow
key can be used to position the cursor to the left of
the mistake and then press the [DELETE] key to
erase it.
5. Press the [ENTER] key to input the new data in the
data entry field and to move to the next data entry
field.
6. If the value is out of bounds, an error message box
displays the proper range of values. Press the [OK]
key to acknowledge the error message. Re-enter the
correct value.
7. When finished making any changes to the data on an
adjustable setpoint screen press the [OK] key to
accept all changes or press the [CANCEL] key to
ignore all changes.

INITIAL SETUP PROCEDURE
1. “Panel Setup” is performed first. “Panel Setup” is
used to setup panel features and options that later
can be changed by an operator. Features such as the
panel time, and screen color are changed here.
2. “Zone Board Setup” is performed next. “Zone Board
Setup” is used to setup the customer specific control
features and options to be used by a zone controller
board. This setup should not need to be changed by
operators. “Zone Board Setup” is intended to be
accessed and performed only by a Factory
Representative or Distributor.
3. Calibrate the control devices.
4. From Control Setup enter and setup the control
settings.
5. From Security Setup, establish the desired access
rights of the operators.
6. From the “Zone Overview – 2” screen, select the most
important information you want to view.
The panel now provides quick access to the most
important information and controls of the zones and their
subsystems.
GRAPHIC SCREENS
“ZONE OVERVIEW” SCREEN
Also called the “Home” screen. This screen shows an
overview of the most important information about the
zones. This screen is shown when power is first turned on
and when a key is pressed after the screen saver has
turned off the backlight. The “Zone Overview” screen is
continuously updated and provides the current status of
each zone's condition and performance.
The following information is shown on this screen:
· ID - The identification number of the zone
displayed.
· Name - The identification name that describes
the zone that is displayed.
· Status – The present operation status of the
zone.
· Temperature - The present temperature reading
of the zone’s control point.
Several types of failures and alarms are also indicated on
this screen. If a zone stops communicating with the
Quantum™, the information specific to that zone is shown
in red text. After communication with the zone has been
restored, the text color will return to black. In addition, a
list of the units that have previously been communicating
with the Quantum™ is saved even when the Quantum™
is powered off. If a unit in that list does not respond to the
Quantum™ during the Quantum’s™ starting sequence,
the words “Not Found” are displayed in red in place of that
unit’s name. Once a proper connection with the unit is
made, logging in to the unit will replace the words “Not
Found” with the unit’s name. Finally, when a unit is in an
alarm condition, the control temperature for that unit will
be displayed as a flashing, red value until the alarm is
cleared.

“ZONE OVERVIEW” SCREEN -
SCREEN KEY SET
Following are the screen key selections for the “Zone
Overview” screen:
[Login to Zone] - Shows a selection box for the Zone ID.
After a valid ID is entered, the “Operating Status” screen
for that zone is displayed.
[Panel Setup] - Shows the “Panel Setup” screen. This
screen has the following menu items for setup:
· Change Current Time and Date
· Temperature Units
· Language
· Change Communications
· Group Setup
· Screen Setup
· [Security] - Shows the current security privilege
level and whether setpoints can be changed from
the keypad. Security can be changed on this
screen.
[Zone Overview 2] – Shows the “Zone Status–2” screen.
· [Select Data] – Shows toggle key selections
provide for adding or removing selected data
from this screen.
· [Select Group] - Shows a selection box for the
Group ID and allows for selecting to display the
data of a single group or all groups.

“ZONE OVERVIEW - 2” SCREEN
This screen can display the data of up to 20 zones at one
time, and allows for the selection of what zone data to
display. There is a toggle key for all data that can be
viewed. The key changes between the following
selections:
· [Show “x] - This key is provided if the “x” data is
not presently shown. “x” is used here to refer to
the different data that can be selected to be
shown on the screen.
· [Remove “x”] - This key is provided if the “x”
data is presently shown. “x“ is used here to refer
to the different data that can be selected to be
removed from this screen.
The data that follows can be selected to display, but the
amount of data that is shown is limited by the space
required for each piece of data.

”OPERATING STATUS” SCREEN
The most important information about the zone is
displayed here. The following information is shown on the
left side of this screen:
EVAPORATOR DATA BOX:
Shows the present operating status of the zone and from
what source it has been initiated:
· Status - One of the following messages is
shown:
· Off
· Cooling – The zone is in a temperature
control mode and the liquid valve is open
because the control temperature equals or
exceeds the liquid on setpoint. If the suction
valve is not a modulating valve, it is open
during cooling. During cooling, a modulating
valve regulates the suction valve based on
its setpoints.
· Satisfied - The zone is in a temperature
control mode and the liquid valve is closed
because the control temperature is less than
or equals the liquid off setpoint. During this
time, the suction valve is open.
· Defrost – The zone is using defrost control
setpoints.
· Heating - The zone is using heating control
setpoints.
· Mode - One of the following messages is shown:
· Off – The zone is disabled from being
controlled. All valve station solenoids as well
as fan motor starter(s) are de-energized.
· Mode 1 - The zone was sent a command to
use the Mode 1 setpoints for control.
· Mode 2 - The zone was sent a command to
use the Mode 2 setpoints for control.
· Mode 3 - The zone was sent a command to
use the Mode 3 setpoints for control.
· Auto – Mode 1 - The zone is being
controlled using the Mode 1 setpoints that
are presently activated by the “Time
Schedule”.
· Auto - Mode 2 - The zone is being
controlled using the Mode 2 setpoints that
are presently activated by the “Time
Schedule”.
· Auto - Mode 3 - The zone is being
controlled using the Mode 3 setpoints that
are presently activated by the “Time
Schedule”
· Auto - Off - The zone is off because it was
entered into the “Time Schedule” for this
time of this day.
· Defrost – The zone is being
controlled using the Defrost setpoints.
· Refrigeration Counter - This message shows
the length of time in minutes that the liquid valve
has been opened (cooling) since the last defrost.
The counter is reset during defrost. If liquid
override is enabled and defrost has been
scheduled, then defrost will only initiate when the
refrigeration counter is greater than the counter
setpoint. The counter can help indicate if enough
ice has built up to benefit from defrost.
ALARM STATUS BOX:
The alarm status is displayed in the indented box below
the evaporator data box. The status box is blank with no
message if there are no alarms present.
The following message could be shown:
· ALARM - This message flashes when an alarm
is present. An alarm is a condition that requires

an operator to acknowledge it and allows the
zone to continue its operation.
An Alarm message indicates an Alarm point has been
reached, or exceeded. Select the [Alarms/Shutdown]
key from the “Main Menu” screen for details. For additional
shutdown information, select the [Alarms/Shutdown] key
from the “Main Menu” screen and then the
“Alarms/Shutdowns History” screen.
EVAPORATOR I/O STATUS BOX:
The present operating status of the Inputs and Outputs
are shown. One of the following messages is shown:
· On – The input or output is energized or turned
on.
· Open – The input or output is energized to open
a valve.
· Off - The input or output is de-energized or
turned off.
· ClosedThe input or output is de-energized to
close a valve.
The following outputs control valve operation used for
cooling and defrosting. They are shown in the first block (if
they were enabled during the board setup).
· Liquid
· Suction
· Hot Gas
· Bleed
The following outputs are used for cooling, defrosting and
heating. They are shown in the second block (if they were
enabled during the board setup).
· Fan Low – (enhanced unit only)
· Fan High
· Soft Hot Gas – (enhanced unit only)
· Humidity – (enhanced unit only)
· Alarm
The following inputs are possible. They are shown in the
third block (if they were enabled during the board setup).
· Enable /Disable - The unit can be enabled or
disabled through the “Enable /Disable” digital
input. When disabled (the input is de-energized,
or off), the unit is said to be off, that is all valve
station solenoids as well as fan motor starter(s)
are de-energized. When enabled (the input is
energized, or on) the unit is controlled to
maintain desired temperature conditions as well
as defrosting as required. For an example, this
input could be energized when there is
refrigeration compressors ready to start or
coolant liquid is available.
· Demand Defr. (Defrost) - The demand defrost
sensor is mounted on the evaporator tubing. This
sensor utilizes an infrared eye that can be
adjusted for the selected sensitivity to detect the
amount of frost buildup on the evaporator tubing.
As the sensor detects the frost, a contact is
closed which signals the “Demand Defrost” input.
A demand defrost signal will override the
refrigeration counter.
· Fan Aux. – This is an auxiliary input signal from
a fan starter that confirms when the fan is
running. – (enhanced unit only)
· Freezer Door – The opening and closing of the
freezer door affects room temperature. This input
signal is used to indicate whether the freezer
door is opened or closed. To avoid an
unnecessary supply of power, fans are turned off
when the freezer door is opened. – (enhanced
unit only)
· Fire /Ammonia – This input is used for signaling
when there is a fault such as in the engine room
which will affect the operation of the zone control.
For fail safe operation this input is energized
when there is no problem and de-energized on a
fault such as a fire or ammonia leak.
The following information is shown on the right side of this
screen:
DEFROST & HEATING STATUS BOX:
Current Stage – The following stages of defrost are
possible if they are enabled:
· Off
· Defrost Pending
· Pump out
· Soft Hot gas – (enhanced unit only)
· Hot gas
· Bleed
· Fan Delay5
Stage Time Remaining – The time in minutes remaining
until the current stage is completed.
Initiated by – If in defrost, the method used to initiate the
defrost is shown:

Following are the screen key selections for the “Operating
Status” screen:
· [Menu]Shows the “Main Menu” screen for the
selected Zone.
· [Evaporator Mode] – The following control
modes can be selected:
· [Off] – All outputs are turned off and there is
no longer any temperature control or
defrosting.
· [Mode 1]The zone will use the “Mode 1”
setpoints to control temperature until another
selection is made.
· [Mode 2] - The zone will use the “Mode 2”
setpoints to control temperature until another
selection is made.
· [Mode 3] - The zone will use the “Mode 3”
setpoints to control temperature until another
selection is made.
· [Auto] (Automatic) – The zone will change
what setpoints (Mode 1, Mode 2, or Mode 3)

MAIN MENU SELECTION -
“ALARMS/SHUTDOWNS” SCREEN
The following are the “Alarms/Shutdowns” screen
selection keys:
· [Clear Alarms] - Selecting this key will clear all
alarms and/or shutdowns from this screen.
· [Alarms/Shutdown History] - A full screen of
failures is stored, along with the Last Fail
Date/Time of the failure. The stored data shows
on the “Alarms/Shutdowns History” screen. The
data is saved, even if there is a power outage.
To resume normal operation it will be necessary to go
through the following steps:
1. Correct the conditions causing the alarm.
2. To clear or reset the “Alarms/Shutdowns” screen
and turn off any alarm annunciation device, from
the screen press the [Clear Alarms] key. This
will also clear the “ALARM” or “SHUTDOWN”
message from the “Operating Status” screen.
3. If the conditions causing the alarm have not been
corrected or a new fault has occurred, a new
“ALARM” or “SHUTDOWN” message will appear.
The Alarms/Shutdowns history screen keeps a
record of the alarms and shutdowns. This
information will help troubleshoot persistent
operational problems.
Refer to the “Alarms/Shutdowns Message” section for a
list of all the possible alarms.

MAIN MENU SELECTION -
“CONTROL SETUP” SCREEN
This screen is accessible from the main menu screen.
From this screen, the operator can access the screens
that are used to setup the temperature, and defrost control
setpoints along with scheduling the time of day to use
these controls for this zone. After responding [OK] to
changing these control setpoints, they are written to the
evaporator board’s EPROM and read back from there to
be re-displayed. EPROM memory is non-volatile and all
information is retained even if the power to the panel is
lost. This process is used to confirm that an evaporator
control board properly receives control setpoint changes.

CONTROL SETUP -
“TEMPERATURE SETPOINT” SCREENS
Temperature settings are used to control temperature.
Three separate groups of setpoints (modes) can be used
to control one zone’s temperature. A time schedule is
used to select which mode to use at what time of day.
Lower or higher temperature settings can be setup in the
different modes. Higher temperature setpoints can be
used to reduce energy consumption. When the plant is
unused or used much less such as at night or on
weekends, less energy is lost in refrigerated rooms from
door openings, so higher temperature settings can be
used.
The following is a list of the temperature setpoint screens:

CONTROL SETUP - TEMPERATURE SETPOINTS
– “MODE 1 SETPOINTS” SCREEN
Below are the temperature setpoints:
Basic Unit Setpoints
· Liquid On - If the control temperature equals or
exceeds this setpoint, the output for the liquid valve
will be energized or turned on to open a liquid valve
and therefore provide cooling.
· Liquid Off - If the control temperature is less than or
equal to this setpoint, the output for the liquid valve
will be de-energized or turned off to close a liquid
valve and therefore prevent further cooling.
· Heat On - If the control temperature is less than or
equal to this setpoint, control switches to using the
heating setpoints. For further information, reference
the Control Setup – “Heating Setpoints” screen.
· Heat Off - If the control temperature equals or
exceeds this setpoint after completing the “Pre-Heat”
stage of heating, control stops the heating and
proceeds to the “Post-Heat” stage of heating so as to
properly exit from heating. For further information,
reference the Control Setup – “Heating Setpoints”
screen.
· High Temperature Alarm - If the control temperature
is greater than or equal to this setpoint, for its time
delay, an alarm occurs.
· High Temperature Alarm Time Delay - The time in
minutes that the control temperature must remain
greater than or equal to the low temperature alarm
setpoint before notification of the alarm.
· Low Temperature Alarm - If the control temperature
is less than or equal to this setpoint, for its time delay,
an alarm occurs.
· Low Temperature Alarm Time Delay - The time in
minutes that the control temperature must remain less
than or equal to the low temperature alarm setpoint
before notification of the alarm.
· Delay between Modes - When starting to use the
setpoints of another mode, this is the time in minutes
that must elapse before evaluation and notification of
alarms.

Single Speed Fan Control Settings:
· On - If the control temperature reading equals or
exceeds this setpoint, the fan high-speed output
will be energized or turned on to run the fan.
· Off - If the control temperature is less than or
equal to this setpoint, the fan high-speed output
will be de-energized or turned off to stop the fan.
Variable Speed Fan Control Settings:
· On - If the control temperature reading equals or
exceeds this setpoint, the fan high-speed output
will be energized or turned on to run the fan.
· Off - If the control temperature is less than or
equal to this setpoint, the fan high-speed output
will be de-energized or turned off to stop the fan.
· Setpoint - The difference between this
temperature setpoint and the control temperature
reading is compared to the “deadband” setpoint.
If the difference is within the deadband, no
change is made to the analog signal affecting the
fan speed. If the control temperature reading is
higher than this setpoint and the difference
exceeds the deadband, then the difference is
multiplied by the “rate of change” setpoint and
the analog signal is increased by this amount to
increase the fan speed. If the control temperature
reading is lower than this setpoint, then the
analog signal is decreased by this amount to
reduce the fan speed.
· Deadband - The difference of the temperature
setpoint and the control temperature reading
must exceed this temperature span before
changing the fan speed.
· Rate of Change - This is the percent that is
multiplied to the difference of the temperature
setpoint and the control temperature reading
when this difference exceeds the deadband. If
the control temperature reading is higher than
this setpoint, then the analog signal to the fan is
increased by the result to further increase the fan
speed. If the control temperature reading is lower
than this setpoint, then the analog signal is
decreased by this result to further reduce the fan
speed.
· Delay - This is the minimum time in seconds to
delay before re-evaluating if the difference
between the temperature setpoint and the control
temperature reading exceeds the deadband
setting.
· Min (Minimum) - This is the minimum percent of
the analog signal that is sent to affect the fan
speed when the “On” setpoint is first reached and
the fan is turned on.
Fan Cycling settings:
· Time OnWhen the fan is turned on it will
remain turned on for this number of minutes.
· Time Off – When the fan is turned off it will
remain turned off for this number of minutes.

Enhanced Unit Setpoints
· Humidity Control On - If the humidity reading is
less than or equal to this setpoint, the humidity
output will be energized or turned on.
· Humidity Control Off - If the humidity reading
equals or exceeds this setpoint, the humidity
output will be de-energized or turned off.
Two-Speed Fan Control settings:
· Temperature On - If the control temperature
reading equals or exceeds this setpoint, the fan
low speed output will be energized or turned on
to run the fan at low speed.
· Temperature Off - If the control temperature is
less than or equal to this setpoint, the fan low
speed output will be de-energized or turned off to
stop the fan.
· Low - High temperature - If the control
temperature reading equals or exceeds this
setpoint, the fan low speed output will be de-
energized or turned off and the fan high speed
output will be energized or turned on to run the
fan at high speed.
· High - Low temperature - If the control
temperature is less than or equal to this setpoint,
the fan high speed output will be de-energized or
turned off and the fan low speed output will be
energized or turned on to run the fan at low
speed.
· High – Low Delay – The amount of time in
minutes to delay before starting the low-speed
fan after the high-speed fan has been stopped.
This time is intended to be the time it takes for
the high-speed fan to slow down and eventually
stop.
Two-Step Fan Control settings:
· Temperature On - If the control temperature
reading equals or exceeds this setpoint, the fan
step 1 output will be energized or turned on to
run the step 1 fan or fans.
· Temperature Off - If the control temperature is
less than or equal to this setpoint, the fan step 1
output will be de-energized or turned off to stop
all fans.
· Step 2 On - If the control temperature reading
equals or exceeds this setpoint, the fan step 2
output will be energized or turned on to run the
step 2 fan or fans.
· Step 2 Off - If the control temperature is less
than or equal to this setpoint, the fan step 2
output will be de-energized or turned off to stop
the step 2 fan or fans.
Modulating Valve:
Note: The suction valve must be direct for this
control.
· On – If the control temperature reading equals or
exceeds this setpoint, the suction valve output
will be energized to open the valve.
· Off – If the control temperature reading is less
than this setpoint, the suction valve output will be
de-energized to close the valve.
· Setpoint – The difference between this
temperature setpoint and the control temperature
reading is compared to the “deadband” setpoint.
If the difference is within the deadband, no
change is made to the analog signal of the
modulating valve. If the difference exceeds the
deadband, then the difference is multiplied by the
“rate of change” setpoint and the analog signal is
increased by this amount to further open the
suction valve if the control temperature reading is
higher than this setpoint. The analog signal is
decreased by this amount to further close the
suction valve if the control temperature reading is
lower than this setpoint.
· Deadband – The number of degrees in
temperature that the difference of the
temperature setpoint and the control temperature
reading must exceed to change the analog signal
to the suction valve.
· Rate of Change – This is the percent that is
multiplied to the difference of the temperature
setpoint and the control temperature reading
when this difference exceeds the deadband. If
the control temperature reading is higher than
this setpoint, then the analog signal to the
modulating valve is increased by the result to
further open the suction valve. If the control
temperature reading is lower than this setpoint,
then the analog signal is decreased by this result
to further close the suction valve.
· Min (Minimum) – This is the minimum percent of
the analog signal that is sent to the modulating
valve when the “On” setpoint is first reached and
the suction valve has opened.
· DelayThis is the minimum time in seconds to
delay before re-evaluating if the difference
between the temperature setpoint and the control
temperature reading exceeds the deadband
setting.
Temperature control is used to maintain a temperature.
The liquid valve is open to provide cooling. The suction
valve is also open during temperature control. Fan cycling
based on temperature can aid in energy savings. If the
temperature falls below the “Fan Off” setpoint the fans will
cycle off by de-energizing the proper output. There are
two setpoints that allow the operator to turn on and off the
fans for a period of time to provide for air movement while
the fans are cycled off. If the operator selects fan cycling
and the fans are cycled off, the fans will remain off for the
entered number of “Off” minutes. After the fans are off for
the entered amount of minutes and the air temperature is
still below the “Fan Off” setpoint, the fans will be
energized for the “On” number of minutes. This on/off
cycling continues until the temperature rises above the
“Fan On” set point in which the fans start and continue to
run.

CONTROL SETUP -
“TIME SCHEDULE” SCREEN
This screen shows a time schedule. The “Time Schedule”
is a schedule of what time of day to start controlling the
temperature of the zone by using either Mode 1, 2, or 3
control setpoints or turning off control. The modes can be
used to maintain different temperatures. One mode could
be used to save energy. For example, at night or on
weekends, when room doors are kept closed, a higher
temperature can be set to reduce energy consumption.
The “Time Schedule” is used to select which set of control
setpoints (mode) to use based on the time of day. Each
unit can have up to four different start times scheduled per
day that can vary each day of the week. An entry of “-” will
void the time entry field. The “Time Schedule” is only used
if the zone is in automatic mode. The time schedule is
used to switch the active control mode to another mode at
a start time.
The following is a description of the setpoints:
· Start – The time of day to switch to another
mode of control. The time of day is represented
using a 24-hour clock, i.e. 00:00 is midnight and
23:59 is a minute before midnight
· Mode - Three separate groups of setpoints
(modes) can be used to control one zone’s
temperature. The following modes can be

CONTROL SETUP -
“DEFROST SCHEDULE” SCREEN
The “Defrost Schedule” is a schedule of what time of day
to start defrosting the zone. The time of day is
represented using a 24-hour clock, i.e. 00:00 is midnight
and 23:59 is a minute before midnight. Each unit can have
up to eight defrosts scheduled per day that can vary each
day of the week. An entry of “-” will void the time entry
field. If liquid override is enabled, these times are also
dependent on a “Liquid counter” setpoint. The liquid
counter counts a cumulative time that the liquid solenoid
output is open between defrosts. When the panel reaches
a time in the Defrost Schedule and the liquid counter
exceeds the “Liquid counter” setpoint, then the unit goes
into it’s defrost mode. If the counter has not exceeded the
“Liquid counter” setpoint, no defrost is initialized. There is
a possibility for five defrost steps. The length of time for
each step is adjustable on the “Defrost Setpoints” screen.
