Before preparing your rst cup

of coffee . . .

clean the appliance by filling the water tank with

clear cold water and allow the water to run through

(without coffee).

Coffee Preparation

•Takeglassjugandlteroutoftheappliance.

•Raiselidofthewatertankandpourtherequired

amountoffreshcoldwaterintothetank.Therequi-

rednumberofcups–from2to10 .TheExcellent

4.0 and Excellent 4.0 Steel appliances also have a

water level indicator on the pot to help you measure

outtherightamountofwater.

•.FoldovertheseamededgesofaMelitta

ﬁlterbag 1x4

andplaceitinthelter.Scoopthegroundcoee

intothelterbag.Recommendation:onelevelcoee

measure (approx. 6 g) per cup or vary according to

taste .

•Placethelterontheglassjug(withoutlid)andput

both on the hot plate 

•Switchtheapplianceon–theon/oswitchlightsup,

showing that the machine is operating .

Attention: Do not take out the glass jug while

brewing cycle. Risk of burning due to leaking

hot steam!

•Afterendingofthebrewingprocessremovetheglass

jugwiththelterfromthehotplate.Removethe

usedlterbagfromthelterandsetthelteraside.

•Excellent4.0andExcellent4.0Steelareequipped

withadripstoponthelter,whichpreventscoee

fromdrippingwhenthelterisremovedfromthe

pot .

•Closetheglassjugwiththelid.

•Thecoeemakerisequippedwithtwoheatingele-

ments–oneforbrewingandoneforkeepingwarm

thecoee.Afterendingofthebrewingprocessthe

heaterforwaterswitcheso,thehotplateconti-

nuesoperatingandkeepsyourcoeewarminan

aroma protecting way.

•Thecoeemakersareequippedwithanautomatic

shutowhichswitchesthemachineoafter40

minutes.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Always pull the plug out of the socket before

cleaning!

•Lidoftheapplianceandwaterspoutareremovable

and can be cleaned in the dishwasher .

Æ Detachthespoutfromthepipetoremoveit.

•Filter,glassjugandjuglidaredishwasherproof.

•Forcleaningtheexterioruseasoftdampclothand

mild cleanser.

Descaling

Depending on water hardness the appliance can

becomecalciedwithuse.Thisalsoincreasesthe

appliance’s energy consumption as lime scale on the

heating element can prevent the water heating

eectively.Toavoiddamagetheappliancemustbe

descaled regularly.

1. Descaling

•Followthemanufacturersinstructionsregarding

amounts and pour the descaler into the water tank.

We recommend using Melitta

“Anti Calc Liquid for

Filter Coffee & Aqua Machines“.

•Turntheapplianceonandfollowthedescaler

manufacturer’sinstructions.

•Whenthedescalerliquidhasfullyrunthroughthe

appliancethenitshouldbeturnedo.

2. Rinsing

•Afterstep1theappliancemustberinsedwithfresh

water.Todothisallowthemachinetocoolfora

short time (approx. two minutes) then ﬁll the appli-

ancewiththemaximumamountofwater.

•Turntheapplianceonandallowallthewatertoow

throughit.Thenturntheapplianceoimmediately.

•Repeattherinsingprocess.
