Safety instructions
In this document, there are safety instructions before the steps
whenever there is a danger of personal injury or damage to the
equipment. The measures described to avoid these hazards must
be observed.

About this chapter
The product has been manufactured according to the accepted

ST6-ATEX sensor.

pass the ST6 sensor on to third parties.
Intended use
O The ST6-ATEX sensor is only intended for industrial
applications.
O The pressure regulator may only be used within the limits
listed in the technical data.
O The sensor is to be used to detect magnetic fields in explosive
areas.
Improper use
It is considered improper use if the ST6-ATETX sensor
W is used for any application not stated in these instructions or
W is used under operating conditions that deviate from those
described in these instructions.
Personnel qualifications
Assembly and commissioning require basic electrical and
pneumatic knowledge. Assembly and commissioning may
therefore only be carried out by qualified electrical or pneumatic
personnel or an instructed person under the direction and
supervision of qualified personnel. Qualified personnel are those
who can recognize possible hazards and institute the appropriate
safety measures, due to their professional training, knowledge,
and experience, as well as their understanding of the relevant
regulations pertaining to the work to be done. Qualified personnel
must observe the rules relevant to the subject area and have
qualifications according to the Technical Rules for Operational
Safety (TRBS 1203).

General safety instructions
W Observe the regulations for accident prevention and
environmental protection in the country where the product
is used and at the workplace.
W Do not modify or convert the device.
W Only use the device within the performance range provided
in the technical data.
W The warranty will not apply if the product is incorrectly
assembled.
W Do not place any improper mechanical loads on the product
under any circumstances.
Safety instructions related to the product
and technology
On installation
W Make sure the relevant system component is not under
pressure or voltage before assembling the product or when
connecting and disconnecting plugs.
During operation
W Only commission the sensor after it has been completely
assembled, as well as correctly connected and tested.
W Observe the operating conditions and data printed on the
relevant sensor or stated on its rating plate.
W Do not disconnect plugs or lines when the sensor is under
voltage.
ATEX – information on explosion protection
ST6-ATEX sensors are certified and labeled according to the
enclosed declaration of conformity.
They can be used
W with gases, mists, or vapors in zone 2
W with flammable dust particles in zone 22
Explanations concerning identification
Due to the small size of the sensor, the ATEX identification
is located on a cable flag.
Year of manufacture of the sensor: The first two digits
in the 5-digit date code on the rating plate indicate the year
and the last two digits indicate the week.

The device will lose its Ex approval if these instructions are not
complied with!

4 About This Product
The ST6-ATEX sensor is used to detect magnetic fields in explosive
areas.
Product identification
O Observe the product information on the product and
packaging.
5 Assembly and Commissioning
Sensor porting configuration
O Observe the Ex guidelines as per EN 60079-14.
O The installation of electrical devices must be carried out
in accordance with applicable national regulations and
performed or supervised by an electrical specialist
(in compliance with TRBS 1203 or equivalent).
O Compare the information on the device with the information
in the operating instructions before installation.
WARNING
Danger of an ignition source due to impermissible operating
conditions, connections, and parameters!
Operating the sensor under impermissible operating conditions
can result in an explosion.
O Observe the permissible operating conditions, in particular
the ambient temperature and the mechanical protection
for the device.
O The ST6-ATEX sensor is only intended for complete
installation in suitable T-slots.
O Note the limited temperature range for ATEX conditions.
O Do not disconnect the plug connectors and the connecting
cable from the sensor if it is under voltage.
O Only use approved M8 and M12 connecting cables from
the AVENTICS GmbH product offering.
O Observe the relevant Ex guidelines for installation,
maintenance, and repair, especially EN 60079-14.

1. Fit the sensor into the T-slot (any mounting orientation).
2. Install the sensor protected against mechanical impact and UV
light (depending on the requirements/operating conditions).
3. Install cables with protection or provide for strain relief.

regulations in your country.

O Replace the sensor in the event of malfunctions or failure.
