Luminor MOD-EMU is an emulator module that allows users to simulate various module failures and adjust UV intensity and days remaining. It can be used for testing and troubleshooting purposes, or to demonstrate the functionality of a BLACKCOMB UV system to a customer. The module features toggle switches for module alarms, lamp alarm, and UV intensity adjustment, as well as a knob for adjusting the days remaining. It is compatible with both the BLACKCOMB and BLACKCOMB-HO controllers.

ToEmulateaparcularmodulefailure,
togglethecorrespondingswitchtothe
ON(toggledown)posion.Thealarm
can be cleared by returning the switch to
itsOFF(toggleup)posion.Thedevice
alsocanemulatetheUVintensityreportedbyaUVsensormodule.Turningtheright“UV”
knobintheclockwisedireconwillincreasetheintensity,whileturningitcounterclockwisewill
decreasetheintensity.Pleasenotethattoseeallthecapabiliesofthesensor,youwillneed
tocycletheintensitythroughtherangeof49through66%.The“DaysRemaining”cyclecan
alsobeadjustedbyturningthele“Days”knob.Theemulatormodulemustonlybesupplied
atSELV.

LOCATION
Step 1) Findasuitablelocaononthewallforthesolenoid
module. The module must be installed close enough to the
controller,ortheUVsensortobeabletopluginthemale
IEP connector. The module must also be installed close
enough to the actual solenoid valve and this distance will
bedependentonthecordlengthoftheparcularsolenoid
valve that is used.
Step 2)Pickalocaonforthesolenoidvalveandinstallas
perthemanufacturersdirecons.Thesolenoidmodule
requiresbareleadsforconnecontoterminalblocks,so
ifthesolenoidcablehasaplugaached,removetheplug
andstripthewirestoasuitablelength.
INSTALLATION
Step 1) MakesurethesolenoidvalvecableisNOTpluggedintotheelectricaloutlet.Insert
thesolenoidvalvecablethroughthecenterholeofthemiddlestrainrelief.Connectthethree
electricalwirestotheterminalblockthatismarked“SOLENOID”(seeFig.2).Connectthe
groundwireintheposionmarked“GND”,thelinevoltagewireintheposionmarked“L1”
andtheneutralwireintheposionmarked“N”.Typicalwirecolourconguraonsaremarked
directlyonthecircuitboardtotheleoftheSOLENOIDterminalblocktoaidinthisprocess
(seeFig.3)Ifyouareunsureofthecorrectwiringconguraonforyouparcularsolenoid
valve,pleasecontactanapprovedelectricalcontractor.Onceallthelinevoltageconnecons
havebeenmade,ghtenthestrainreliefnuttosecurethecabletothesolenoidmodule.

Step 2) Plugthesolenoidvalveintotheapplicableelectrical
outlet.Atthisstage,thefunconalityofthesolenoidvalve
canbetestedbypressingthesolenoidtestbuonlocatedon
theupperleofthecircuitboard.Manuallydepressing(and
holding)thisbuonwillcompletetheelectricalcircuitandwill
openthenormallyclosedsolenoidvalve.Youshouldbeableto
heartheacvaonofthesolenoidvalveatthisstagetoensure
thevalveisfunconingproperly(seeFig.4).
Step 3) MakesureyourUVcontrollerisunpluggedfromthe
powersource.Oncealltheseconneconshavebeenmade,
axthemaleIEPplugofthesolenoidmodulecableintothe
IEPportonthecontroller(seeFig.5),oranyotheravailable
IEPportsuchastheUVsensor,4-20mAmoduleorremote
alarmmodule.ItdoesnotmaerwhichIEPportanymodule
isaachedto,aslongastheyareaached.
OPERATION
Step 1) PlugtheBLACKCOMBcontrollerintothepower
sourceandmakesurethesolenoidmoduleisacvatedon
thecontroller.Duringthestart-upsequence,theSOLENOID
MODULEscreenwillindicatea“inialized”whenthemodule
isacvatedproperly(seeFig.6).

Step 2) Thecontrollerwillonlynofyyouwhenthereisafailure
modewherebythesolenoidmodule(andconnectedsolenoidvalve)
willbeacvated.OntheBLACKCOMB5.1system,thesolenoid
modulewillbeacvated(shungotheowofwater)uponLAMP
FAILURE(seeFig.7).Toremedythis,replacetheUVlampandrestart
thesystemasperthedireconsoutlinedintheOwner’sManual.
Step 3) OntheBLACKCOMB6.1systemwhereaUVsensorisinstalled,
thesolenoidmodulewillbeacvated(shungotheowofwater)
uponaLOWUVcondion(lessthan50%)(seeFig.8).Toremedythis,
youwillneedtoaddressthereasonforthislowUVcondionwhich
may be due to a dirty UV sensor and quartz sleeve, a lamp that is
not eming enough UV energy, or a change in the water quality.

procedures.

Step 4) To determine what posion the solenoid valve is currently in, the solenoid module
incorporates three lights on the circuit board (see Fig. 9). When the solenoid is in the OPEN
posionagreenlightwillappearonthecircuitboardbesidetheword“OPEN”.Whenthevalve
isCLOSED,aredlightwillappearonthecircuitboardbesidetheword“CLOSED”.Andwhenthe
solenoidisinanOVERRIDEposion,anamberlightwillappearonthecircuitboardbesidethe
word“OVERRIDEON”.

Boil Water Advisory: If any failure occurs on a BLACKCOMB UV system, the water
must not be used for human consumpon unl the system is returned to a safe operaonal
mode. If the water is used for human consumpon during this period, the water must be
boiled (minimum 20 minutes at a full boil) prior to consumpon.
EMERGENCY BYPASS
Inacasewherethesolenoidvalvehasbeenacvated(valveisclosedandnowaterisallowed
toow),thesolenoidmodulehastheabilitytobypassthesolenoidvalveincaseofan
emergencyneedofwater.Toiniatethisbypass,depressthebuonlabeled“OVERRIDE”
locatedinthelowerleporonofthecircuitboard(seeFig.10)

Oncethisbuonhasbeenpressed,thesystemwillremaininthis
overridemoderegardlessofwhetherornotthecondioncausingthe
solenoidacvaonhasbeenremediedornot.Toresetthesystem,
thepowertothecontrollermustbeshutoandrestarted.While
inthisoverridemodethecontrollerwillintermientlydisplayared
“SOLENOIDOVERRIDE”screen(seeFig.11).

DISABLING EMERGENCY BYPASS
Incertainregulatedapplicaons,theavailability,anduse,
oftheemergencybypassfeaturemaybeinviolaonofthe
local,state/provincialcodes.Ifthisisthecase,thebypass
featurecaneasilybedisabledbyphysicallyremovingthe
bypassbuon.Toaccomplishthis,carefullyuseapairof
needlenosepliersandphysicallyremovetheactualbypass
buon(marked“OVERRIDE”)fromthecircuitboard.

Intheeventthereisanissuewiththesolenoidconneconfrom
theIEPcabletothecontroller,thesystemwillregistera“SOLENOID
FAILURE”screenonthecontroller(seeFig.12).
CAUTION: BEFORE PERFORMING ANY
WORK ON THE SOLENOID MODULE, THE
POWER CORD MUST BE DISCONNECTED
FROM ITS POWER SOURCE (WALL PLUG).

status on your mobile device.
TheUVConciergemodulecomeswithbothamaleandfemaleIEPconnecon(Innite
ExpandabilityPort).ToiniatethemodulesimplyplugthemaleplugintotheIEPonthe
StandardorHighOutputcontroller,orintoanyotherBLACKCOMBmodulethatcontainsanIEP
(sensor,4-20mAmodule,solenoidmodule,etc.),plugintheincludedpoweradaptertothe
wallandyourUVConciergemodule,andthenrestarttheUVsystem.
Oncethesystemisiniatedasabove,youwillneedtoprovideyourWiFilogincredenalsto
thesystem.InstalltheUVConciergeapponyouriOSorAndroiddevicebysearchingforitin
youriOSAppStoreorGooglePlaystore,orscantheQRcodebelow:
Fromtheapp,clicktheConnectDevicebuon,andfollowthepromptstoselectyourWiFi
networkandenterinyourpassword.
Oncetheappreportsthemoduleisconnected,addthedevicetoyouraccountbyoneofthe

App Troubleshoong
The app does not nd my UV Concierge module
EnsureyouhavepluggedyourUVConciergemoduleintothepoweroutletusingtheincluded
poweradapter.
I’m stuck at “Waing for system to complete startup”
Youmustrestartyoursystembyunpluggingandplugginginthecontrollerpowercordaer
pluggingintheUVConciergemodule.OncethecontrollerdetectstheUVConciergemodule
andthestartuprouneisnished,youwillautomacallypassthissecon.Aerstartupis
complete,youcanpressandholdthecontrollerbuonfor3secondstoseewhatmodulesit
currentlydetects.IfthecontrollerisnotdetecngtheUVConciergemodule,checkyourIEP
connecons.Connectonemoduletothecontrolleratametotesteachmoduleindividually.
Withmulplemodules,theorderofthedaisychain(whichdeviceispluggedintowhich)does
notmaer.
I get a “Pairing Failed” error
Aertheappndsyourdevice,youmustenterinthe6numbersdisplayedonthecontroller
intoyourapp,includingleadingzeros.Ifyouaresllstuck,tryrestarngtheUVConcierge
modulebyunpluggingitandpluggingitbackin.TryrestarngyouriOS/Androiddevicealso.If
theissuepersists,trywithanotheriOSorAndroiddevice.
