The Binks “Pump Protector” is an air flow limiting valve with a
manual reset. The Pump Protector senses an increase in air flow
and automatically shuts off the supply of air to a pump (or other
air-driven device) when:
a. Fluid supply to pump is interrupted.
b. Air enters the siphon hose causing cavitation (as when hose
develops a leak).
c. Pump check valves and packings are worn out.
d. Broken air hose between Pump Protector and pump air motor.
e. Broken fluid hose downstream of pump.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
1. Turn valve (3) counter-clockwise to full open.
2. Adjust air pressure regulator to obtain desired pump
fluid output pressure while spraying.
3. Turn valve (3) clockwise while spraying until pump
shuts off.
4. Turn valve (3) counter-clockwise a correct number of
turns, according to pump air motor size as indicated in the
table below.
5. Lock valve (3) setting by finger-tightening locknut (4)
against retainer (5).
6. Press valve assembly (11) reset button on side of
“Pump Protector” until pump starts, and is operating

Check out Pump Protector setting as follows
(for siphon outfitted pumps only):
a. With pump running, remove siphon tube from fluid
container.
b. Note acceleration of pump and increase in air flow.
c. Note whether Pump Protector senses increased air
flow and, in so doing, shuts off air supply to pump.
d. If pump shuts off, return siphon to fluid container
and restart pump by pressing reset button on Pump
Protector.
e. If pump DOES NOT shut off, follow Operating
Instruction step 3, and return siphon to fluid container.
f. Repeat procedure described in Operating Instructions.
TROUBLESHOOTING
PROBLEM SOLUTION
1. Pump does not shut off when fluid supply is used up. Improper Valve (3) setting. Refer to operating instructions.
2. Pump shuts off without accelerating. Turn Valve (3) 1/4 turn C.C.W. and lock.
If above fails to remedy situation, remove Valve Assembly (1),
and check for broken Spring (9).
3. Pump stops and starts repeatedly by itself after fluid. Check the following parts for damage, and replace if necessary:
has been used up. Diaphragm (17), seating surface on Valve Assembly (11) and
Diaphragm (14).
NOTE
When changing air pressure regulator setting, repeat operating
instructions 1 through 6.
