• Attachthestandtube(C)tothehoppertubesusing

two1/4-20x1-1/2hexbolts(BB),thetwopre-

assembledbolts,andfour1/4-20nylocknuts(FF).

STEP 3: (SEE FIGURE 3)

• Applyliquidsoaptotheinsideofthefoamgrip(II).

Workthesoapdownthelengthofthegriptocoat

theinside.Slidethegripontothehandle(D)untilitis

centered.

HINT:Thelesssoapleftinthegrip,thesoonerthegrip

willdryandbecomesnugonthehandle.

frominsideofhoppertubes.Discardspacersonce

removed.Setaside1/4"nylocknutsforuseinstep2.

STEP 4: (SEE FIGURE 4)

• Assemblethehandletube(D)tothehoppertubes

usingtwo5/16x3/4screws(AA)and5/16"lock

washers(HH).

STEP 5: (SEE FIGURE 5)

• Inserttheendsoftheowcontrolbail(E)intothe

handletube(D),insertingthebentendrst.Thebail

shouldpullbackfreelyagainstthehandle.

• Inserttheendofthecableintotheowcontrolbail(E).

• Attachtheowcontrolassembly(B)usingtwo1/4-20

nylocknuts(FF).

HINT:Iftheboltsspinwhentightening,pullonthebolts

andturnthemuntiltheylockinplace.Pushinontheow

controldialtohelpkeeptheboltslockedinplacewhile

tightening.

isjustsnugandthenbackitoff1/4turnoruntilthe

deectorrod(H)willslidefreely.

• Removethebolt,washersandnutsthatare

assembledintheupperholeintherighthoppertube.

• Attachthedeectorrod(I)totheupperholeinthe

hoppertubeusingtheoriginalbolt,washersandnut

thatwereremoved.Attachthedeectorrodtothe

emptymiddleholeinthehoppertubeusinga1/4"

selfthreadingscrew(EE).

• Installthegrip(LL)ontotheendofthepushrod.

THE SIDE DEFLECTOR (45-0471 only)

1. Pushonthepushrodtoslidethedeectordowntoits

bottompositiontopreventbroadcastingtothatsideof

thespreader.

THE FLOW CONTROL (Refertogure11)

1. Refertotheapplicationchartonthispageandtothe

instructionsonthefertilizerbagtoselecttheproper

owratesetting.

2. ReleasetheowcontrolbailtotheCLOSEDposition

3. Pushinonthedialandturntothedesiredsetting.

4. Pulltheowcontrolbailbackagainstthehandleto

theOPENpositiontostartspreading.Thehigherthe

settingnumber,thewidertheowplateinthebottom

ofthehopperwillopen.Theowplateshouldopen

abouthalfwaywiththedialsetat"5".SeeServiceand

Adjustmentsifthesettingisnotaccurate.

USING YOUR SPREADER

broadcastpattern.

1. Determineapproximatesquarefootageofareatobe

covered and estimate amount of material required.

2. Makesuretheowplateisclosed.

3. Fillthehopper,breakingupanylumpyfertilizer.

4. Settheowcontroldialwiththeowplateclosed.

Refertotheinstructionsonthefertilizerbagandto

theapplicationchartonthispagetoselecttheproper

owratesetting.Theapplicationchartiscalculated

forlighttoheavyapplicationataspeedof3mph,or

100ft.in23seconds.Avariationinspeedwillrequire

anadjustmentoftheowratetomaintainthesame

coverage.Thefasteryouwalk,thewiderthebroadcast

width.

5. Alwaysstartthespreaderinmotionbeforepullingback

thebailtoopentheowplate.

6. Alwaysreleasethebailtoclosetheowplatebefore

turningaroundorstoppingthespreader.

7. Iffertilizerisaccidentallydepositedtooheavilyina

smallarea,soaktheareathoroughlywithagarden

hoseorsprinklertopreventburningofthelawn.

8. Toinsureuniformcoverage,makeeachpasssothat

thebroadcastpatternslightlyoverlapsthepattern

fromthepreviouspassasshowningure12.The

approximatebroadcastwidthsfordifferentmaterials

areshownintheapplicationchartonthispage.

9. Whenbroadcastingweedcontrolfertilizers,make

surethebroadcastpatterndoesnothitevergreen

trees,owersorshrubs.Ifyourspreaderisequipped

withasidedeector,lowerittobroadcasttoonlyone

side of spreader.

10. Heavy moisture conditions may require use of a vinyl

hoppercovertokeepcontentsdry.Thecoveractsasa

windandmoistureshield,butshouldnotbeusedasa

raincover.The#41316covercanbeorderedasan

optionforthe45-0462spreader.Seepages18and19.

MAINTENANCE

CHECK FOR LOOSE FASTENERS

1. Beforeeachuse,makeathoroughvisualcheckofthe

spreaderforanyboltsandnutswhichmayhave

loosened.Retightenanylooseboltsandnuts.

CHECK FOR WORN OR DAMAGED PARTS

2. Checkforwornordamagedpartsbeforeeachuse.

Repair or replace parts if necessary.

CHECK TIRE INFLATION

3. Checkiftiresareadequatelyinatedbeforeeachuse.

Donotinatetiresbeyondmaximumrecommended

pressure on tire.

CLEANING

4. Rinseinsideofhopperandexteriorofspreaderand

allowtodrybeforestoring.

LUBRICATE(Seegure13)

5. Removethethreeclipsfromthegearbox.Separate

thegearboxhousings.

6. Wipeanydirtorgrimefromthegears.

7. Lightlyapplyautomotivegreaseasneededtogears.

8. Lightlyoilthetopofthegearboxandthevertical

spreadershaft.

9. Re-assemblethegearboxhousingsandsecurethem

withtheclips

10. Oilthe(idler)wheelandtheaxlebushingsatleast

once a year or more often as needed.

STORAGE

1. Rinseinsideofhopperandexteriorofspreaderand

allowtodrybeforestoring.

2. Storeinaclean,dryarea.

SERVICE AND ADJUSTMENTS

1. Iftheaxleandgearassemblyisdisassembled,mark

downthepositionsofthepartsastheyareremoved.

Thedrivewheelandlargegearpositions,inrelation

tothesmallgear,determinewhichdirectionthe

impellerwillspin.Besuretoreassemblethemintheir

originalpositions.(Refertotheexplodedpartsview

onpage18).Makesurethewashers(items15and

30onpage18and19)areinplacewhenassembling

theaxlecomponents.Addgreasetogears.

3. Loosenthenutthatfastenstheconduitcliptothe

bottomofthespreader.Seegure14.

4. Spreadtheendsoftheclipuntilthecablecanslide

backandforth.Seegure14.

5. Holdtheconduitclipinalignmentandpullonthe

cableuntiltheowplatemovesjustslightly,then

tightenthenutwhileholdingthecableandcableclip

inplace.Seegure14.

6. Releasetheowcontrolbailfromthehandle.Verify

thattheowplateisclosed.Settheowcontroldial

at"5".MovetheowcontrolbailbacktotheOPEN

positionandverifythattheowplateisopenabout

halfway.Ifitisnot,repeattheseinstructions.
