IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Before using the unit, read these operating instructions carefully, including all the information on ope-
rating safety, use and maintenance.
Keep these operating instructions ready at hand and leave them with the machine, so that all users
can find out about the functions and safety regulations.
Ensure that there is sufficient room around the unit for air circulation. Please refer to the installation
information regarding this point.
The units must only be used by adults. Do not allow children to play with the units or touch the con-
trols.
All installation work and adjustments to the unit must only be carried out by qualified personnel. Work
performed by persons with insufficient technical knowledge may adversely affect the performance of
the unit or cause physical injury or damage to the equipment.
All servicing and repairs must only be carried out by a qualified customer service engineer. Only genu-
ine spare parts must be used.
Ensure that the connecting cable is not squeezed or bent when the unit is being installed or moved.
Before cleaning or carrying out maintenance work, always switch the machine off and disconnect the
mains plug. Always pull the plug and never the cable. If the plug is not accessible, switch off at the
safety device.
The unit's cooling system contains refrigerant. Both the unit and the products stored inside can be
severely damaged if this system starts to leak. Make sure, therefore, that no sharp or pointed objects
come into contact with the cooling system.
GENERAL
SAFETY
Check whether the unit has been delivered undamaged. If you find that damage has occurred in tran-
sit, immediately contact the delivery service or relevant sales outlet, submitting the delivery note or
proof of purchase. Do not operate a unit that has been damaged in transit! If you are unsure, contact
your sales outlet and ask them.
The unit must be transported in an upright position only (maximum inclination 45°).
Make your contribution to saving the environment. Bear in mind that orderly and proper disposal is
required. Packaging materials and devices are always recyclable and should be taken for recycling.
Before scrapping an old unit, remove the door so that children cannot lock themselves inside while
playing.
Before scrapping the unit, arrange for the lead accumulator to be removed and disposed of sepa-
rately.
When disposing of the unit, make sure that it does not get too hot, as combustible gas would cause
the insulating foam to froth up
ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION
TRANSPORT
Two spacers are included with some models. These
must be attached to the rear of the unit as shown in
the diagram, before positioning the unit against the
wall.

The unit must be set up in a dry well-ventilated
place. Avoid direct sunlight or locating it close to a
heat source.
Ensure that the unit is steady and perfectly straight
and does not knock against any of the units next to
it.
The air must be allowed to circulate freely all round
the unit as good air circulation is essential for trou-
ble-free operation. There must always be a gap of
at least 70mm all round the unit. Upright units must
always be at least 50cm away from the ceiling.
Do not locate the unit below a ceiling fan or right
next to air-conditioning equipment.

If the unit is fitted with castors, once it is in its final
location, the feet must be unscrewed to immobilise
it and stop it rolling away. Unscrew the foot until it
touches the floor and then screw the lock nut back
up.

type series, the door handle is
offset by 90° at the factory to protect it during
packaging and transportation. When setting up the
unit, turn it as shown in the diagram opposite.

CLEANING/DISINFECTING
Clean or disinfect the unit inside and outside before using it. Use only gentle cleaning agents. Never
use aggressive or caustic cleaning agents, scouring powder, steel wool, abrasive sponges or chemi-
cal solvents. When cleaning, make sure that no fluids of any kind run into the ventilation housing.
For disinfecting, we recommend all the surface disinfecting agents commonly used by the customer,
provided they are recommended by the German Association for Hygiene and Microbiology (DGHM) or
other national organisations. For disinfecting small areas, we recommend using a concentrated alco-
holic agent.
Before connecting the unit, check whether the details on the nameplate in the interior correspond to
local values. The unit must only be connected to an earthed socket.
Before connecting the unit and switching it on for the first time, allow it to stand for 30 minutes.
To prevent problems with other electrical equipment causing this unit to malfunction, it should be con-
nected to a separate circuit. Never connect the unit to a single socket with other electrical equipment
by means of a multi-socket.
Make sure that the plug of the unit is easily accessible so that if need be it can be easily disconnec-
ted without having to move other equipment or furniture.

The equipment is monitored and controlled by electronics comprising the following components:

To switch the unit on, turn the key switch to position “I”. The electronics will
then run the following self-test:
test of all the display segments
test of all the LEDs
test of the audible signal
After the self-test, the temperature inside the refrigerator is displayed.
The compressor will only switch on a certain time after the self-test.

During normal operation, the LED display shows the temperature inside the refrigerator either in °C
(Celsius) or in °F (Fahrenheit), depending on the parameter setting. The temperature is displayed in incre-
ments of 1°C or 1°F.
TEMPERATURE DISPLAY
To reach the user parameters mode, press the two keys and simulta-
neously and keep them pressed for 5 seconds.
The USER OK message appears briefly in the display, followed by the first
parameter with its set value. Use the arrow keys and to reach the next
or previous parameter, as required.
To change a parameter, press the or key. Once a change has been
made, the display starts to flash to draw your attention to this fact. Pressing
the key saves the new value and the display stops flashing.
To exit the user parameters mode, press the two arrow keys and again simultaneously. If no
other key is pressed for 15 seconds, you will automatically exit this mode. Parameters confirmed with
the key are saved.
The following parameters can be set in this way

The maximum permissible inside temperature. An alarm is triggered when this value is rea-
ched.

The minimum permissible inside temperature. An alarm is triggered when this value is rea-
ched.
IMPORTANT:
For units from the BR model series (blood banks), the temperature set point and the two
alarm points are prescribed by the standard governing blood-preserving refrigerating
equipment (DIN 58371) and therefore cannot be changed by the customer.
MMUUDD MMuuttee sswwiittcchh ppeerriioodd
When there is an alarm, the audible signal can be switched off for a specified period of time
by pressing the key. The specified period is defined by this parameter. It can be varied
between 0 and 60 minutes in 1-minute increments.

Conversion of the temperature display from °C (Celsius) to °F (Fahrenheit).

The current local time. The time starts at 00:00 hours when the unit is switched on. First
set the minutes by means of the and keys. Once the key has been pressed,
the hour setting can be changed. Press the key again to save the new time.
IMPORTANT:
In order to define a precise defrost phase for units that defrost automatically, it is vital for
the clock setting on these units to be correct (see the Defrosting section).
After switching off the unit with the key switch or after a power failure, you must check the
time and if necessary, reset it.

LLAANN LLaanngguuaaggee
This parameter is used to set the language in which the warnings and error messages are
displayed. ENG for English is preset. The alternatives are: ESP for Spanish, POR for
Portuguese. FRA for French, DEU for German, BHM for Bahasa (Malaysia), NED for Dutch,
SVE for Swedish, SUO for Finnish, NOR for Norwegian, ITA for Italian or DAN for Danish.

Several units can be networked by means of the built-in RS485 interface. In this situation,
each individual unit must have a separate address. This address is defined by the ADR para-
meter.

In the event of a power failure, the red POWER FAIL LED flashes and an audi-
ble alarm sounds. The audible alarm can be muted for a certain period of time
(MUD parameter) by pressing the key.
After a certain interval, the display switches off automatically. However, the
inside temperature can be displayed again by pressing the key.
No parameters can be changed during a power failure.
If, during a power failure, the inside temperature increases beyond the upper alarm point, the tempe-
rature alarm is displayed and the corresponding values are stored in the Alarm History.
An alarm caused by a power failure is not signalled by the external alarm function. Should this be
necessary, this function can be added later. Please contact your service centre for this.
POWER FAILURE
In the event of a power failure, an integrated rechargeable battery monitors the electronics for a maxi-
mum of 48 hours.
This battery is recharged automatically when the unit is connected.
If the charge in the battery is insufficient to allow monitoring, the BAT LOW error message appears in
the display.
A BAT FAIL error message indicates that the battery is either defective or connected incorrectly.
The battery should be replaced every 2 years as a precaution. This replacement should only be car-
ried out by a recognised service engineer. The unit must be dead before the battery is removed.
The rechargeable battery is a lead accumulator which, if defective, must be disposed of separately.
RECHARGEABLE BATTERY
With GOLD Safety Standard units, briefly pressing the key switches the
light in the refrigerator on or off. If the light is not turned off using the switch,
it goes out after a certain period of time.
With SILVER Safety Standard units, there is a separate light switch in the con-
trol grid for turning the lighting (option) on and off.
Pressing the key for 5 seconds starts an LED test. All the LEDs and all the segments of the display
are switched on briefly one after the other.
In the event of a power failure, the display is switched on with the key (see the Power Failure sec-
tion). In this case, any available interior lighting is not switched on.
LED TEST / LIGHT
Sustained pressing of the alarm test keys or causes the electronics
to simulate a rising or falling temperature. This tests that the alarm is working
properly.
The temperature gets as close as 0.5° to the relevant alarm point and then
increases or decreases in increments of 0.1° until it reaches the preset alarm
point. The alarm LED flashes, the audible alarm sounds and the inside tempe-
rature display flashes.
When the alarm test key is released, the temperature display returns to its original value and the alarm
ceases.
During this alarm test phase, both the Alarm History function and any connected remote alarm are dis-
armed.
ALARM TEST - DISPLAY AND KEYPAD 1 ONLY

The Alarm History contains all the relevant values that occurred during a tem-
perature alarm. If either of the two Alarm History LEDs comes on, this means
that data can be retrieved from the memory.
To retrieve data from the memory, the relevant Alarm History key (for the
warm alarm) or (for the cold alarm) must be pressed.
If the or key is pressed successively, the following values are displayed:
MAX or MIN Maximum or minimum temperature value
during the alarm phase
AVG Average temperature during the alarm phase
DUR Duration of the alarm phase
Repeatedly pressing the or key takes you back to the normal tempe-
rature display.
If the Alarm History values have been called up and there is no new alarm
situation, the Alarm History LED goes out. The values remain stored, howe-
ver, until there is a new temperature alarm.
Simultaneously pressing the Alarm History key or and the reset key clears the memory. The
message HIST DEL confirms the deletion.
If there has been no temperature alarm during a certain period, the stored Alarm History data is auto-
matically deleted.
ALARM HISTORY
WARNING MESSAGES
When an alarm situation occurs, an audible signal sounds and the relevant warning message flashes on
the display. (The messages displayed depend on the language that has been set - see table below.) The
following two warning situations may occur:
DDOOOORR
This message appears when the door is left open for longer than the specified time. When the door is
closed, the message disappears from the display. Use the key to switch off the audible signal.
CCLLEEAANN
This indicates that the cleaning interval has been exceeded, that is to say, the condenser must be cle-
aned (see the Machine Compartment section). The message disappears and the audible signal is
muted when the key is pressed.
ALARM SITUATION
The following alarm situations may occur:

The audible signal can be muted for a certain period of time by pressing the key (MUD parame-
ter). If the alarm situation persists beyond this time, the audible alarm comes back on.
In both these situations, you must try to discover the cause of the alarm and eliminate it as quickly as
possible. If this is not successful, you must immediately take the necessary action to ensure that the
goods being stored are not harmed.
ERROR MESSAGES
As well as alarm situations, the unit also indicates functional errors. If there is a functional error, an audi-
ble signal sounds and a relevant message is displayed. (The messages displayed depend on the lang-
uage that has been set - see the table below.)
The audible signal can be muted for a certain period of time by pressing the key (MUD parame-
ter). If the error persists beyond this time, the audible alarm comes back on.
When an error occurs, the necessary action must be taken immediately to ensure that the goods being
stored are not harmed. You must inform your local service centre immediately, telling them not only the
error message, but also the essential product number and serial number of the unit.

There are three floating contacts on the back of the unit that can
be used to trigger an additional external temperature alarm (visu-
al or audible).
Pressing the key in an alarm situation only switches off the
internal audible alarm. The key does not interfere with the exter-
nal alarm. The external alarm signal is only switched off once the
cause of the alarm has been eliminated.
A voltage of between 12V DC and a maximum of 250V AC can
be connected at the contacts. The maximum load must not
exceed 8A. The minimum power rating is 500mA / 12V AC.
EXTERNAL TEMPERATURE ALARM FUNCTION

Depending on the model series, height-adjustable drawers or racks are included as standard fittings.
The load must be evenly distributed over the drawers or racks,
Pull out the drawers using the handles only.
To remove the drawers (e.g. to clean them), pull the draw out to the stop and then lift.
INTERIOR FITTINGS
TEMPERATURE RECORDER
The recorder is used to record the temperature response over a certain period. This period can either
be set to 7 days (preset) or 24 hours, as required. To change the setting, proceed as follows: raise the
lever with the recording stylus and take the lock nut off the recorder axis. You can now remove the
recorder disk. Now pull the recorder axis to remove the assembly from the housing. The switch with
which to set the required time period is located on the side of the assembly.
The disks for the two time periods are different. Make sure that you insert the correct disk.
The clockwork for the recorder is powe-
red by a 1.5V AA battery. This is located
on the underside of the recorder assem-
bly.
To replace the stylus, take the old stylus
out of the stylus retainer and push the
new one into the guides until it stops. Be
careful not to touch the stylus with your
fingers.
When re-assembling, make sure that the
lock nut is sited correctly.
SAFETY THERMOSTAT
All units that operate in the + range are fitted with a safety thermostat. This thermostat switches off
the compressor as soon as the inside temperature falls below +2°C, to prevent the goods being har-
med by freezing.

The refrigerator should be cleaned and if necessary disinfected before you use it for the first time and
then at regular intervals thereafter.
Only use gentle cleaning agents. Never use aggressive or caustic cleaning agents, scouring powder,
steel wool, abrasive sponges or chemical solvents. When cleaning, make sure that no fluids of any
kind run into the ventilation housing.
CLEANING
MAINTENANCE AND CARE
When units are fitted with internal ventilation, it is vital that the interior fan is always in working order.
To prevent warm outside air being sucked in unnecessarily when the door is open, the fan switches
off when the door is opened.
The airflow to the fan must never be impeded. The ventilation slots must therefore never be blocked
or covered.
FAN
FRAME HEATER
(UF AND UCF UNITS ONLY)
The units of the UF and UCF type series are fitted with two frame heaters. The outer frame heater is
always switched on to prevent the door or lid seal on the container from freezing solid.
You have the option of starting up the inner frame heater by means of a switch in the machine com-
partment on the back of the unit. When it is on, the switch is lit.
As this inner heater impairs the cooling capacity of the unit, it
should only be switched on in the following situations
high atmospheric humidity in connection with a high ambient
temperature (over 32°C)
if the door is opened frequently every day
if the door is kept open for long periods (e.g. when loading and
unloading the unit)
Before switching on the inner heater, the door or lid seal and the container frame must always be free
of residual ice and frost and be thoroughly dry.
RS485 INTERFACE
Depending on the fittings provided, the unit may have an RS485 inter-
face. You can use this interface to connect the unit to a PC or to net-
work it to other refrigerating equipment.
It is possible to add the interface to any of the units later on.

local service centre.
EXTERNAL POWER FAILURE ALARM
As well as an external temperature alarm, it is also possible to subsequently fit an external alarm for
power failure. For information about the connection options, please contact your local service centre.

FR units and MF600G/MF605 are fitted with automatic defrosting. The defrost phase starts automa-
tically at a pre-determined time of day (parameter DT1 or DT2). The defrost phase lasts for about 30
minutes.
Depending on the model, the units are preset to one of the variants listed below:
One defrost phase per day: DT1 = start time DT2 not applicable
Two defrost phases per day: DT1 = 1st start time DT2 = 2nd start time
One defrost phase per 48 hours: DT1 = not applicable DT2 = start time (every 2nd day)
Should it be necessary or desirable to change these presets to a different variant, your service centre
can make this adjustment.
As the cooling unit is switched off during the defrost phase, the interior temperature rises. The defrost
time should therefore be set for a time of day when the unit is not being opened.
The message DFR, followed by the current temperature inside the unit, appears in the display during
the defrost phase.
The automatic defrosting process does not start or is interrupted if the inside temperature is 10°C war-
mer than the selected temperature set point. Automatic defrosting is then put off until the next time
set for the defrost phase.
Defrosting can also be started manually. To do this, press keys and simultaneously and keep
them pressed for 5 seconds.

The condenser/liquefier must be dusted regularly using a hand brush or a vacuum cleaner. The clea-
ning interval is specified at the factory and is indicated by the appearance of the CLEAN message on
the display.
