1 This appliance must only be used by or under the supervision of a responsible adult. Use and
store the appliance out of reach of children.

from the edges of worktops and out of reach of children.
4 Don’t touch hot surfaces. Use the handle and lid release button.
5 Don’t open the lid while the water is heating.

7 Don’t switch on unless the kettle contains at least 2 cups of water.
8 Don’t fill past max, or it may spit boiling water.
9 Remove the kettle from its stand before filling or pouring.
10 Route the cable so it doesn’t overhang, and can’t be tripped over or caught.
11 Wind excess cable beneath the stand.
12 Unplug the stand when not in use, before moving and before cleaning. Let the kettle cool
down before cleaning and storing away.
13 Check the lid is fully closed before switching the kettle on, otherwise it may not switch off.
14 Check the kettle is properly located on the stand before switching on.
15 Keep the kettle, stand, cable, and plug away from sources of heat.
16 Don’t use the kettle for any purpose other than heating water.
17 This appliance must not be operated by an external timer or remote control system.

switching on
9 Plug the stand into the wall socket.
10 Put the kettle on the stand – take care not to spill.
11 The buttons will flash twice, then glow steadily.
variable temperature
12 Touch the button marked with the temperature you want.
13 The temperatures available are: 100 (boil), 95 (coffee), 90, 80, 70, and 60 (that’s °C).
14 The button will flash.
15 The kettle will start to heat up.
pulsing element
16 Initially, you’ll hear the element pulse on, off, and on again, as it works to control the
temperature accurately.
17 When it reaches the set temperature, the button will stop flashing and glow steadily.
18 After 5 minutes, the light will go out, and the appliance will go to sleep.

92
switching off
20 To switch off manually, touch the glowing button again.
21 The lights will go out, and the appliance will go to sleep.
22 To save electricity, unplug the stand.
general
23 Remove the kettle from the stand before pouring.
24 To avoid the risk of splashing, pour slowly and don’t over-tilt the kettle.
25 Don’t tilt the kettle backwards, water might get on to the control area. If this happens, let the
kettle dry before use – sit it somewhere warm for 12 hours.
26 When you lift the kettle, you may see moisture on the stand. Don’t worry – its the steam
used to switch off automatically, which then condenses and escapes via vents under the
kettle.
27 You may see some discolouration on the floor of the kettle. Again, don’t worry – its due to
the bonding of the element to the kettle floor.
using with insufficient water
28 This will shorten the life of the element. A boil-dry cut-out will switch the kettle off.
29 You must then remove the kettle from its stand to reset the cut-out.
30 Sit the kettle on the work surface till it’s cold.
31 Don’t fill it the kettle till it’s cold, or it may spit.
care and maintenance
32 Unplug the appliance and let it cool down before cleaning or storing away.
33 Clean the outside surfaces of the appliance with a damp cloth.
34 Keep all connectors and sockets dry.
35 Don’t put the kettle or stand in any liquid.
36 Don’t use harsh or abrasive cleaning agents or solvents.
water filter
37 Scale particles suspended in the water may give it a cloudy or greasy appearance. The filter
will prevent these particles going into your drink. If you see deposits on the filter, clean it,
otherwise the performance of your kettle will drop, your drinks may contain scale, and the
water inside the kettle may look cloudy.
cleaning the filter
38 Check your hands are free from soap, or anything which might leave a taint.
39 Unplug the appliance and let it cool down.
40 Open the lid.
41 Use the tab on the filter to pull the filter out of the guides, then lift it out of the kettle.
42 Rinse the filter under a running tap while brushing with a soft brush.
43 Rinse the kettle, in case scale particles have fallen inside.
replace the filter
44 Slide it down, into the guides.
45 Close the lid.
descale regularly
46 Limescale may be white, coloured, even rusty-looking.
47 It may cause overheating, and reduce the working life of the element. It may also make the
safety cutout operate prematurely, switching the kettle off before the water boils.
48 As the element is mounted beneath the kettle, scale can build up only on the walls and floor
of the kettle, where it can be seen and dealt with.
49 If you see scale forming, wipe it off.
50 Descale regularly, (at least monthly) to keep your kettle in good working order.
93
51 Use a descaler suitable for use in plastic products (most products have plastic parts). Follow
the instructions on the descaler, rinse several times, then fill, boil and discard the water, to
ensure no residues are left.
, Products returned under guarantee with faults due to scale will be subject to a repair charge.
