The watch you now own has a unique time display mechanism. Unlike traditional
watches, the time representation is generated by a set of disks and rings. The so-called
time module (or ROCS) is an independent mechanical unit that generates all the
functions completely immersed in oil. From the movement is taken the the minutes
information. All the functions including the orbiting movement of the rings are
generated by the module.

Operating Instructions
The TYPE 5 is an automatically winding watch. It will wind while you wear it and keep the
barrel armed. The watch has a power reserve of 36 hours what is plenty enough to be
taken off at night and put back on the next morning without the need to wind it manually.
Notice
In the situation the watch has stopped because it has not been wearn for a longer period,
you will need to reset the time. While setting the time in a clockwise direction ( looking at
the dial ) your action will also wind the watch. Setting the time five hour later
is enough to restart the watch. The barrel will wind completely by wearing the watch.

Your watch is equipped with a thermal gauge measuring the oil temperature inside the
dial. The watch is equipped with 7 custom made micro-bellows that compensate for the
oil dilatation or contraction due to temperature changes. The bellows operational range is
limited to their deformation capacity. The temperature gauge is representing the range the
bellows can operate within. The oil is placed inside the watch at about -5°C.

The TYPE 5 has a unique set-up mechanism. Unlike traditional watches, TYPE 5 has no
crown for winding or setting the watch. Instead the „back case“ takes over the crown
functions. The different actions normally carried out with a crown are replaced by turning
the „back case“ of the watch. A lock mechanism will prevent the „back case“ to rotate while
wearing the watch. This „outer ring“ should ALWAYS be positioned on LOCK to guarantee
the water resistance.

TYPE 5 is equipped with a locking mechanism for the back case.
The outer-ring beneath the case can be turned in two positions:
LOCK or SETUP
A coloured triangle indicates its position.
The ring should ALWAYS be positioned in LOCK.
Only when the watch needs to be set or manually winded,
this bottom ring must be turned into SETUP position.

Step 2.
Turning the back case ( green area ) counter clockwise will
wind the watch manually.
A winding sound and a higher resistance is perceptible over a
short segment. Oscillate the winding action over this „harder“
zone 7 times for a sufficent start-up winding.
While turning the back case ( when manually winding ), the
time setting will change accordingly. To avoid ending far from
the original time, wind by oscillating the back case over the
winding section.
Turning the back case clockwise will not wind the watch.
When leaving the winding area in counter clock-wise direction a
„click“ sound will be noticable.

To allow time setting, turn the outer ring to SETUP.
Turn the back case ( green area ) while looking at the dial.
The dial ( minutes ) will follow the movement you do with the back.
Both directions are possible but it is preferable to set counter
clockwise if the time span is important.
Always do this close to a soft surface in case the watch would fall.
When time is set, turn the outer-ring back to LOCK position

Maintenance & Service
A RESSENCE watch comprises many dozens of tiny, often delicate parts,
carefully combined to make a robust, high precision timepiece. Each example
is assembled with the utmost care - but some things are beyond our control.
Shocks, magnetic fields and even gravity can, over time, affect the performance
of its regulating parts - those that work to count out the passing of time,
normally with such accuracy. This is true of any mechanical watch.
As such, we recommend that it undergoes a complete overhaul every three to
five years, depending on how tough a life it has led. This will ensure that your
RESSENCE watch enjoys a long, trouble-free life as an exemplar of precision
time-keeping and high grade mechanics, and will preserve its value.
This overhaul should only be conducted at an authorised RESSENCE service
centre. This will be best placed to appreciate and restore the particular
intricacies of a RESSENCE watch.
We also advise that each year your RESSENCE watch undergoes a water-
resistance test. This will ensure that the gaskets that protect your watch from
humidity and dust remain at maximum efficiency.
The service centre can also de-magnetise your watch too, which will help
re-establish the normal rate of operation and accuracy. It is just a fact of
modern life that, thanks to our use of electronic devices, TVs and, occasionally,
x-ray machines, the environment is replete with sources of strong magnetism.
These can affect the running of a mechanical watch.
Maintenance & Service
This page is reserved for servicing information.
.
RESSENCE advises you to have your watch checked every year by an appointed
after sales agent to guarantee its keeping perfect time. During this annual routine
check the movement needs to demagnetised.
Servicing
Your RESSENCE watch comes with a „bubble certificate“. The bubble code found
on the guarantee card is based on natural chaos and is unreproducible. To check the
authenticity of your watch, you need to connect to the internet.
Your RESSENCE watch is insured under a limited guarantee against manufacturing
defects for two years from the date of purchase indicated on the warrantee card of
your watch. Only your retailer and the official distributer for your country are authorised
to accept your watch for service. Please consult the list of authorised after sales
support. Your watch has been sealed. If at the time of servicing the seals are found to
be broken, the guarantee is automatically void. For further information, please contact
RESSENCE bvba by email.

Functional Parameters
Your watch has undergone a rigorous quality control in compliance with the
highest standards of the Swiss watchmaking industry. After being pre-tested by
our suppliers in Switzerland, the entire watch cased-up is controlled internally
over a period of 500 hours. The R500H - RESSENCE 500 Hours - takes place in
our headquarters and consists of the 6 following operations.
Rating Regularity Control
We verify the perfect rating of the regulating organ. The balance spring assures
equal oscillations and determines the precision of the watch. The measurement
is made in 6 different positions, simulating average wearing conditions. The
watch is monitored fully wound and after running for 24 hours.
Water Resistance : 10 ATM
We ensure our watches are protected against any water intrusion. An air test
checks the water-tightness of the gaskets, the seals and the bonding of sapphire
crystals on each watch. Watches are placed under pressures ranging between 1
to 10 atmospheres according to the model's specifications.
Power-Reserve Control : 36 hours
We test and guarantee the 36 hours power-reserve in 3 different positions.
Watches are also wound on a Cyclomotion during 8 hours. This operation tests
the good winding of the watch by the oscillating weight.
Functional Parameters
Shock Resistance
We control the resistance to shocks. We place the watches loosely in a box
running on the Cyclomotion in order to simulate the small shocks a watch
undergoes under normal wearing conditions.
Temperature Resistance : 5°C to 4C
We control the functioning of the watch under extreme conditions. The special
alloy that composes the balance spring is very sensitive to temperature
variations. Its dilatation can modify its regulating action and thereby affect the
reliability of the watch. Furthermore the oil used in the is also sensitive
to temperature variations. We test the seven bellows used in the watch to
compensate for the oil expansion and contraction. After being placed in an oven
at a temperature of 45°C the watch is chilled to C.
Aesthetics Control
We control each of the visual aspects of the watch: case, case back, dial, straps,
buckle or folding claps are checked under a UV light and by magnifying glasses in
order to guarantee a flawless watch in terms of aesthetics default or scratches.

Important Notice
The TYPE 5 is Oil filled.
Like all liquids, oil expands when heated and contracts when chilled.
TYPE 5 has been calibrated to function between 10°C ( 50°F ) and 40°C ( 100°F ).
This corresponds to a normal wearing temperature of 20°C ( 68°F ) with skin contact.
Seven bellows compensate for normal volume changes due to temperature.
If the watch is exposed to temperatures below 10°C ( 40°F ) this could cause a bubble
of air to appear. It is therefore important to protect the watch from the cold.
If the watch is exposed to temperatures above 40°C ( 100°F ) internal pressure
could damage the bellows or even disconnect the glass from the case resulting in an
oil leak. It is important not to expose the watch to high temperatures.
For example do not leave the watch on a dashboard or unventilated under direct sun
light. If the watch is black, it is even more sensitive to heat build-up inside.
RESSENCE bvba declines all responsibility and cannot be liable for any consequence
related to an oil leak whatever the cause. The consequences related to the exposure
to temperatures below and above as indicated on the watch are not considered
manufacturing defects.
The oil used in TYPE 5 is a Petroleum-based lubricant ( highly flammable )
Do not swallow or inhale vapours.
In the event of skin contact, wash the skin with soap and rinse with water.
In the event of eye contact, rinse abundantly with water and consult a
specialist.
The watch must be rinsed after every use in salt water.
