PRODUCT FEATURES
GPS (L1 C/A) and NavIC (L5) Navigation
GPS and N av IC (f orm erly IRN SS) constellations are enabled by def ault.
Satellite Based Augmentation System (SBAS)
The receiv er is capable of using SBAS (GAGAN) satellites as a source of diff erential corrections.
These systems use geostationary satellites to transmit regional corrections v ia a GNSS-compatible
signal.
SBAS Corrections
The SBAS satellites transmit a set of diff erential corrections to their respectiv e regions. The use of
SBAS corrections can improv e positioning accuracy .
Assisted GPS (AGPS)
A GNSS receiv er requires ephemeris data to calculate the precise position in space of each satellite
to be used in the nav igation solution. Since the satellites mov e at a speed of 3874 km/s along their
orbits and are subject to grav itational perturbations f rom all masses in the solar system, this data
must be both current and accurate. Each GPS satellite transmits a complete set of its ephemeris
coefficients (called the broadcast ephemeris or BE) ev ery 30 seconds. This is theref ore the minimum
time required f or a cold start Time to First Fix (TTFF). The BE data is usually ref reshed ev ery 2 hours.
The minimum cold start TTFF can be reduced f rom 30 seconds to just a f ew seconds by
implementing AGPS, which can prov ide Extended Ephemeris (EE) data by two methods -
1. Locally -generated: The receiv er includes software to project the f uture positions of the
satellites. This data may be calculated out to 14 day s or ev en longer, depending on the
resources av ailable in the receiv er, e.g. computation ability and memory .
2. Serv er-generated: A serv er calculates the f uture position projections and makes them
av ailable to a receiv er, ty pically ov er the internet. This data may be good f or 30 day s,
depending on av ailable resources, e.g. communication links and storage.
This Extended Ephemeris (EE) data is then stored for use at the next restart, and can reduce cold
start times to a f ew seconds.
If serv er-generated EE data is receiv ed and processed, locally -generated data is not used.
AGPS is enabled by def ault, but can be disabled by command.
Locally-generated AGPS (ST-AGPS)
Proprietary algorithms within the module perform GPS ephemeris prediction locally from stored
broadcast ephemeris data (receiv ed from tracked satellites). The algorithms predict orbital
parameters f or up to 5 day s. The module must operate in Full Power mode f or at least 5 minutes to
collect ephemeris data f rom v isible satellites, or 12 hours f or the f ull constellation.
Server-generated AGPS (PGPS)
Telit AGPS serv ers maintain calculated extended ephemeris data. The predicted ephemeris f ile is
obtained f rom the AGPS serv er and is transmitted to the module ov er serial port 1 (RX). These
predictions do not require collection of broadcast ephemeris, and are v alid f or up to 14 day s.
SL869T3-I Product User Guide Product Features
1VV0301546 r0 Page 17 of 57 2019-01-10
Serv er-based AGPS is supported as a standard f eature.
An Application Note and example source code are av ailable under NDA.
Contact TELIT f or support regarding this serv ice.
Static Navigation
Static Nav igation is an operating mode in which the receiv er will f reeze the position f ix when the
speed f alls below a set threshold (indicating that the receiv er is stationary ).
The course and altitude are also f rozen, and the speed is reported as “0”.
The nav igation solution is updated ev ery 40 seconds while the receiv er is in the Static Nav igation
mode.
The nav igation solution is unf rozen when the speed increases abov e a threshold or when the
computed position exceeds a set distance f rom the f rozen position (indicating that the receiv er is
again in motion).
This f eature is usef ul f or applications in which very low dy namics are not expected, the classic
example being an automotiv e application.
Static Nav igation is disabled by def ault but can be enabled by command.
Elevation Mask Angle
The def ault elev ation mask angle is 5°. It can be changed by command.
Internal LNA
The module includes a built-in LNA t o improv e sensitiv ity .
1PPS
The module prov ides a 1PPS output signal whenever the receiv er has a v alid f ix (2D or 3D).
Antenna Enable
The Antenna Enable output can be used to control an external power supply to an activ e antenna
(or external LNA). It will be high when the receiver is operating, or low when it is in a low-power
(standby ) mode.
Antenna Sense
The Antenna Sense f eature measures the current consumed by the external LNA or activ e antenna
and reports its status as NORMAL, SHORT, or OPEN in an NMEA proprietary message.
Serial I/O Ports
The module includes three serial ports and an I
2
C port.
UART
The UART ports can be used f or sending data and receiv ing commands.
See section 8.8.1 UART Port Operation
.
