I.IntroductiontoAirQ1100
TheAirQ1100applianceisanairtreatmentsystemforinteriorspacesservedbyaductedHVACair
handlingsystem(“HVAC”).TheAirQ1100deliversafragranceorairtreatmentagent(“Agents”)
intotheairflowoftheHVACsystemeitherthroughthecentralfanunit(CFU)orat
suitable
locationsinthebranchedductwork.Itisdesignedforpermanentinstallationontheoutside or
insideoftheCFU.
TheAirQ1100ismanagedbyanonboardcomputerthatisfullyprogrammableforspacesizes
from1,000to250,000cubicfeetperapplianceandoneormore
intensitylevelsinthesameday.
MultipleappliancescanworktogetheronthesameormultipleCFUstotreattheairinthesame
spacesservedbytheHVAC.Inthisway,thereisnolimitationonthesizeofthespacethatcanbe
servedbyAirQ1100.
AirQ1100requireslittletonomaintenanceexceptperiodiccleaningforappearance.Installations
ofAirQ1100aredesignedsothattheconsumptionoftheconsumableCartridgesofAgent
(“Cartridges”)requiresreplacementnomorefrequentlythanonceamonth.

TypicalAirQ1100applicationsincludeairtreatmentforodorremediation,
scentbrandingand
ambientscentinginpublicspacessuchascasinos,malls,hotels,theaters,ballrooms,convention
centers,hospitals,andrestrooms.
TheAirQ1100generatesultrafine,ultralightdropletsapproximately500nanometersin
diameter.Bycomparison,adropletfromapressurizedaerosolis50microns(50000nanometers)in
diameteror166timeslargerthananAirQ1100droplet.Intermsofweightandvolumeofliquid,
thecomparisonisevenmoredramatic.A50micronaerosoldropletis4.6milliontimesheavier
thana300nanometerAirQdroplet.

ThistinyAirQdropletoffersmanyperformancebenefits
overaconventionalaerosolincluding:completelyuniformdistributionofthetreatmentagent;100
timesmoreexposedsurfaceareaallowinguseofmuchlessairtreatmentagentpercubicfoot;and
theabsenceofanyliquiddepositsonsurfacessuchasthe
interiorsurfacesinaHVACsystem.
TheAirQ1100Guideispackedwithimportantinformationthatwillhelptheusers,installersand
serviceengineersoptimizetheperformanceofthismodernairtreatmentsystem.Weencourage
youtoreaditcarefully.

AirQ1100isusedwithproprietaryfragrancesandodorremediationagents(“Agents”)toenhance
indoorairqualitybyerasingodorsandintroducingscent.Thisisaccomplishedbyconvertingliquid
stateAgentsintoultrafinedropletsandinjectingthemintothemintotheHVACsystemtoblend
withtheairflow.Usedasdirected,theconcentrationofAgentintheairwillusuallybelessthan1
partpermillion(<1ppm).Thismeansthatforevery1,000,000moleculesofair,lessthan1
moleculeisairtreatmentAgent.TheAirQ1100’sdropletsareabout500nanometers
indiameter
(halfamicron).Adropletofthissizepresents10,000timesmoresurfaceareatotheairthanthe
sameamountofliquidina50micronaerosoldroplet.TheAirQdropletis1/1,000,000
th
theweight
ofanaerosoldroplet.Thismeansthedropletsbehaveasiftheyweredry,donotleaveanyresidue
onthebladesorinteriorductsurfacesandcreatescenteffectwithconcentrationssolowitus
unlikelytotriggerallergicresponse.
TherearetwobasicapplicationsforAirQ1100:ambientscentingandodorremediation.TheAirQ
1100deliverysystemandProlitec’sproprietaryairtreatmentchemistrycandobothatthesame
timeoreitheronealone.
1. AmbientScenting
AmbientScentingistheuseoftheAirQ1100todeliverascenttocreateamoodor
ambience,associateascentwithabrand,enhanceavisualthemeorsimplymakeaspace
morepleasantforitsoccupants.
2. OdorControl
OdorControlistheuseofAirQ1100andspecialairtreatmentchemistrytoneutralize
odorsbyblockingcertainmalodorsthusallowingtheintroductionofverysmallquantities
offragranceintotheair.Normalairfreshenerssimplyusefragrancetodouseamalodor.

II.SafetyPrecautions
A. AirQ1100AppliancePrecautions:
Theappliancemustbeoperatedinanuprightorverticalpositionandfirmlyattachedtoa
verticalsurfacesuchasawalloraduct.
TheapplianceshouldNOTbeusedwiththedoorintheopenposition.Thedoorisopened
onlytoperformacartridgeorprogramchange.
NEVERputyournosetotheoutputofAirQ.Within12inchesoftheoutput,thefragranceis
highlyconcentrated.Theimproperinhalationofhighconcentrationsoffragrance maycause
irritationincludingwateryeyes,headache,coughandupperrespiratorydiscomfort.
Theapplianceisbuilttobepluggedintoan110VACor220VACpoweroutlet.TheULandCE
compliantpowersupplyconvertspowerto12VDCtopowertheappliance.
Unplugbeforecleaning.
B. AirQCartridgePrecautions
ReadtheProductSafetyInformationSheetandtheMaterialSafetyDataSheetenclosed
providedwitheachshipmentofCartridges.Insurethattheseinformationsheetsare
availableforreviewbyemployees
UselatexglovestohandleaCartridgetoavoidtheliquidgettingonhands.TheAgentsare
formulatedsoastonotbeharmfulincontactwiththeskin,buttheconcentratednatureof
theagentsmakesthescentdifficulttoremovefromhandsandskin.
WashyourhandsafterallcontactwithCartridgesorfragranceandairtreatmentagents.
CartridgesmustbeprovidedbyandcontainAirTreatmentAgentformulationswhichhave
beencertifiedbyProlitec.
WhileAirQAirTreatmentAgentsdonotcontainingredientsdeemedharmfultotheskin,if
thereisskincontact,washwithsoapandwater.Ifthereiscontactwiththeeyes,irrigate
theeyewithfreshwaterfor5minutes.Ifthereisanyeyeirritation,consultaphysician
immediately.

IV.GeneralMaintenance
A. ChangingtheCartridge
Unlatchandopenthedoortoaccessthecartridge:Thedoorshouldbeopenedonlyto
performacartridgeorprogrammingchange.Wheninuse,thedoormustbeclosed.
1. Removeairnozzle(locatedonthesideofthe cartridgehead)byrotating90degreesand
pullingtowardsyou.(SeePicture#1)
2. DetachInjectorhoseandhoseconnectorfromthecartridgeoutputport(locatedonthe
topofthecartridgehead).Thisisdonebyunscrewingthehoseconnectorfromthe
cartridgeoutputportandpullingout.
3. Removecartridgefromapplianceenclosure.
4. Installnewcartridge,placeandtightenhoseconnectorfirmlyoncartridgeoutputport.
5. Insertairnozzleandrotatethehandle90degreesuntilsecured(bystemretainingtab
oncartridgehead).(SeePicture#2)
6. Turnapplianceon.Verifythattheplumeisnotescapinginsidetheapplianceandthatall
connectionsaretight.Closethedoorwhencomplete.
B. OringReplacementevery6monthsorasneeded:
Replacetheairnozzle3orings(Partnumber10208) ifworedownorswollen.Apartiallyfull
cartridgemayindicateanairleakbetweentheairnozzleandthecartridge,reducingplume
output.Replaceas
neededand/oreverysixmonthsforpreventativemaintenance.
IfthereisanyAgentthatleaksduringthecartridgeinstallation,cleanitcarefullywitha
papertowelwithsomeethanoloranotheralcohol.
C. AirFilterevery6monthsorasneeded.
Replaceairfilter(partnumber10417) ifdirty.Ifanydusthasgatheredinsidetheunit,
removeitwithadamppapertowel.

1. Unlatchandopenthedoortoaccesstheenclosure.
2. Usingapairoftweezersorneedlenosepliers,remove
batteryfromthecenteropeningoftheovalgrommet.The
grommetislocatedonthefrontofthebluebracketbelowthe
operatingbuttons.
3. InsertthenewCR2032battery.Thepositivesideofthe
batteryshouldfaceyourrightwhilelookingatthefrontofthe
appliance.Thebatterywillhavea+ormarkingonaside.

2. TurnonthepowerbypressingtheON/OFFbuttonintheupperleftcornerofthecontrolpanel.
(MakesuretheapplianceispluggedintotheACpoweroutlet.)Thepowerbuttonwilllightblue

Adjustthetimeforwardorbackwardusingthe+/–buttonsontherightside ofthecontrol

IfyouwanttheAir/Q™1100toruncontinuously7daysaweek,24hoursadayturn
thedialto24/7.Ifnot,skiptoStep5.
5. SettingspecificStart/StopTimes.
TurnthedialtoStart.
Adjusttheclocktothetimeyouwanttheappliancetostarteachdayusingthe+/–keys.

Itisimportanttofindaninsertionpointwheretheplumeoutputwillbesmoothlydrawninto
andmixedwiththeairflow.ThisusuallymeansthosepartsoftheAHUwherethestatic
pressureisnegative.Ideallocationsinclude:
BeforethesupplyfanwithinjectionthroughthewalloftheAHU.Positioningimmediately
beforethefanandafterthecoilsifpossibleorinthemixedairchamber.
BehindtheblowerwiththewholeappliancemountedinsidetheAHUinthemixedair
chamber.
OutsidetheAHUintheSupplyairduct.
BestpracticewheninstallinginanAHUistoplacetheinjectortubeaftertheheatingand
coolingcoils.Ifthisisnotpossible,thePlumeoutputcanpassoverhotwater,steam,chilled
water,andDXcoils.

Opengasflamesshouldabsolutelybeavoided.Ifinstallationmustbeovergasheatedcoilsor
opengasflames,contactProlitecTechnicalSupport.
ThebestlocationfortheApplianceisbelowtheinjectortube(SeeFigure1).Theinjectorhose
shouldberunupwardasshortadistanceaspossibleandNEVERMORETHAN6FEETOR180
CENTIMETERS.Ifanupwardinjectorhoserunisnotpossible,careshouldbetakensupportthe
hosetopreventsaggingoranylowspotintheruntoavoidanypossibilityofcondensationand
liquidcollectionwhichwillblocktheplumeoutput.Theinjectorhoseispronetostretching,so
supportpointsshouldbeplacedevery5to6inchesonhorizontalruns.Givethehoseaslight
upwardslantalongitsrun(SeeFigure2).Thehosemustnotberunhorizontally.Astrongtape
(suchasVenturetape)maybeusedtosupportshortruns.ThehosemayberunthroughPVC
pipeforlongerdistances.

1. TheAPPLIANCEiswallmounted.PlacetheAPPLIANCEontothedesiredlocationonthewall
orAHUandensurethatitislevel.
2. FastentheAPPLIANCEtothewallorAHUusingthenecessary screws.
3. ConnectthepowercordtoajunctionboxorattachanACplugtothecordandconnecttoa
nearbyoutlet.
4. Opentheenclosuredoorandunscrewthealuminumcapofthewaterproofcollarlocated
ontopoftheapplianceenclosure.Removeandsetasidethegrommet(seephotoonPage
13).
5. Assemblehoseandhoseconnectortogether(seephotobelow).Besuretoleave
approximately1/8ofaninchclearancebetweenthetopofthecartridgehoseconnector
andtheendofthehose.Thensecurewithclamp,ensuringthatthehoseconnectorisstill
freetorotate.

whenreplacingthecartridge.Tightenaluminumcapofwaterproofcollartoensurea
watertightseal.

E.InjectorTubeInstallation
TheinjectortubeisinstalleddirectlyintotheAHUortheductwork.Itsorientationcanbeadjusted
relativetotheairflow.
Forinstallationsintothenegative/suctionsideoftheAHUfan,orientthetubewiththe
elbowpointedupwards(SeeFigure2),sothatanyplumecondensationwillsipbackin
thetube.
Forinstallationsafterthesupplyfan,suchasinasupplyduct,itisnecessarytoconfigure
andorienttheInjectorTubetoobtainagoodaspirationoftheoutputintotheair
stream.Theinjectortubeshouldbepointedinthedirectionoftheairflowandinclined
45
o
upwardapproximately.Turbulenceintheairflowcanpreventevenaspirationofthe
plume.Itisbesttoplacethetubeinastraightsectionofduct,andfarawayfromany
turns,branches,orcrosssectionchangesaspractical,andnotimmediatelyafterthe
supplyfan.
1. Attheinsertionpoint,drillaholeusinga½”drill bit.
2. InserttheInjectorTubethroughthe hole.
3. FindanorientationoftheinjectorTubethatappearstoproduceagooddrawofairinto
theendofthebarb.
4. Fastentheflangeusingthethree#10sheetmetalscrews
5. TurntheAPPLIANCEonandverifythataplumeisproduced.
6. BeforeattachingtheInjectorhosetotheinjector,verifythattheplumecanfloweasily
throughtheinjector.Thiscanbedonebyplacingtheendofthehose½inchawayfrom
theinjectorandverifyingthattheplumeisbeingdrawnin(aflashlightwillmakethe
plumeeasiertosee).Iftheplumedoesnotriseintothehose,adjusttheorientationof
theInjectorTubeuntilaspirationisachieved.
7. AttachtheInjectorhoseontothehosebarboftheInjectorTube.

thereisno
plumesomethingisblockingthe
outputtube.Checkandremoveit.
Anothermethodforclearingobstructionsis,
whiletheappliancecompressorisrunning,
blocktheoutputtubewithafingerfor2or3
secondsandthenopenit.Byremovingyour
finger.
