Introduction
The Emulex® LP1005DC-CM2 is a dual-channel Fibre Channel (FC) PCI-X host bus adapter (HBA)
designed specifically for operation in the IBM BladeCenter. The core technology of this HBA is Emulex's
6th generation FC controller, code-named Thor. The Thor controller incorporates a multi-function native
PCI-X core that is compliant to the PCI and PCI-X local bus specifications. The HBA supports burst data
transfers up to 133 MHz PCI-X or 66 MHz PCI. The two independent, fully featured FC ports are
compliant to various ANSI Fibre Channel standards. The product is targeted at FC storage networking
environments that require the highest degrees of robustness, performance and ease of management.
The major product features are listed below:
Major Features
Bridgeless dual-channel implementation.
Compatible with both 1 Gigabit (Gb) and 2 Gb FC Interface.
Auto-negotiation between 1 Gb and 2 Gb link attachments.
Multi-function PCI-X device with two fully independent FC ports.
Designed to the PCI-X 1.0a and PCI 2.3 specifications with modifications specific to the IBM/
Intel BladeServer Specifications.

Software Environments (HS20 and HS40
systems)
Windows SCSI FCP Miniport Driver for x86 host machines.
This version also supports Windows Server 2003 32-bit.
• Windows 2000 Port Driver (SCSI Port & TCP/IP) for x86
host machines. This version also supports Windows Server
2003 32-bit.
• Windows STORPort Miniport Driver for x86 host machines.
• SUSE Linux 8.0 and Red Hat 3.0 Open Source Driver for
x86 host machines.
Software Environments (JS20 systems) •SUSE Linux 8.0 and Red Hat 3.0 Open Source Driver on
Power PC host machines.
Hardware Environments IBM BladeCenter HS20/HS40 (Intel Xeon platforms) and
JS20 (PowerPC platforms). A fibre channel I/O module (fibre
channel switch or optical pass-thru module (OPM)) must be
installed in bays 3 and/or 4 of the BladeCenter chassis.

Installing the Host Bus Adapter
To install the HBA:
1. Each host bus adapter is shipped with a unique 64-bit identifier called the IEEE address. The
Fibre Channel industry uses a World Wide Name (WWN) derived from the IEEE address, and
this number is needed for Fibre Channel connectivity. Since this adapter has two ports, there are
two IEEE addresses. The IEEE address is used when configuring your system. The serial
number is used when communicating with Emulex. All numbers are clearly marked on the board.
We recommend that you record these numbers before installation.
2. Remove the Blade Server from the BladeCenter server bay in which you want to install the LP1005DC-CM2
HBA.

3. To remove the Blade Server cover, follow the instructions on the blade cover.
Caution: Emulex LightPulse® HBAs contain electronic components
that can be damaged by static electricity through an
electrostatic discharge (ESD) event. To prevent ESD
damage, maintain constant contact with any grounded metal
surface. A grounding wrist strap is useful for this purpose.
Handle the card carefully at all times and preferably by the
edges. Avoid touching electronic components and keep the
card in the original packaging until you are ready for
installation.
Note: Please refer to the "Fibre Channel Expansion Card Installation and User's Guide"
contained on the IBM BladeCenter Documentation CD for further information
regarding installation.
Note: If an IDE hard disk drive is installed in the IDE connector location where you are
installing the I/O expansion card, you must remove the drive, riser card, and tray
(remember to save the screws that secure the tray to the system board); otherwise,
remove the two screws near the IDE connector, if they are present.

4. Locate the area in which the HBA will be installed.

5. If there is an I/O expansion card tray in that area (see the following illustration), go to step 7. Otherwise, you
must install the tray; continue with step 6.
Note: Remove any existing screws that will prevent the mounting bracket from flushly
mounting on the Blade Server.

6. Using a Phillips head screwdriver, fasten the I/O expansion card tray to the Blade Server with the four screws
that accompany the HBA.
7. Align the LP1005DC-CM2 HBA with the tray as follows:
Slide the narrow edge of the HBA into the raised hook on the tray.
Note: If you are installing only one I/O expansion card in your HS40 Blade Server, it must
be installed in the I/O expansion card location #2 (the slot further in from the edge).

Carefully align the connector on the HBA with both the 200-pin Molex connector and the
high speed differential pair connector on the Blade Server. Where the label on the HBA
says 'Press to Install', gently press the HBA connector into the Server Blade connector.
8. Close the Blade Server cover that you opened in step 3.
9. Reinstall the Blade Server into the BladeCenter server bay.
