Field Awareness Review
The following slides contain issues that were seen during
product testing and may occur in the field. Please
familiarize yourself with each of these issues, as you will
be tested on the key concepts at the conclusion of the
lesson.
Samples and reference images are provided where
available.

This new state occurs when the machine has determined that the
cartridge is out of useable toner.
The machine will hard stop to prevent damaging the imaging unit
by running the device without any toner.
The only way to clear this message and resume printing is to
replace the toner cartridge.
Shaking the cartridge will NOT allow you to continue printing.

“Replace imaging unit, 0 estimated pgs remain [84.3x]”
This new state occurs when the machine has determined that the
imaging unit has reached its rated page count capacity or its
cleaner capacity.
The only way to clear this message and resume printing is to
replace the Imaging Unit.

31.21 Missing or Defective Imaging Unit Error
Intermittent contact with the Imaging Unit and CTLS (Capacitive Toner
Level Sensor) can display this error.
Removing and reinstalling the Imaging Unit will usually clear the error.
If the problem persists, replace the Imaging Unit.
Note: Early production units will be more susceptible.

31.46 & 31.66 Reinstall Missing or Unresponsive Cartridge
This is a cartridge issue where toner is not being replenished to the
Imaging Unit.
This can be caused by the cartridge being empty, or not properly
installed, or a mechanical issue within the cartridge/bottle that is
keeping it from replenishing the Imaging Unit.
Replace the cartridge to resolve the problem.

200.19, 242.xx Paper Jam when Feeding from Tray 2
A combination of parts at the high and low end of the specification
range can result in tray 2 being misaligned with the printer reference
edge.
Printing on A5, A6, statement and legal media will be more
susceptible to this issue.
To fix the problem, ensure that the media being used is supported and
loaded properly:
Set side restraints
fan media
flip media
Best solution would be to load difficult media in a different tray.
Note: A change is in process to reduce/eliminate the problem.

200.05 Paper Jam
This jam means the input sensor did not detect the trailing edge of the
media usually because multiple sheets were picked.
Most jams occur under the Imaging Unit, but can occur in the Fuser.
Multiple sheets can be picked if the media is difficult to separate or the
separator rolls are worn or dirty.
Ensure the media is supported and stored properly when not loaded
inside the printer trays.
Media should be loaded properly:
Fan the media
Flip the media
Adjust the tray insert side restraints before loading.
If the issue persists, replace the separator roll assembly.

On some early production units, it is possible that the gear on
the Fuser Drive Motor has worked its way loose.
Inspect the fuser for any signs of damage and replace if needed.

Check the Fuser Drive Gear by spinning it with one finger.
If the gear spins quickly with little resistance:
Replace the Fuser Drive Module.
If the gear spins normally:
Reseat the fuser
Reseat the Fuser Drive Motor Connection on the Controller Board (J24).

111.21 Service Printhead Error
The printer will post a 111.21 Printhead Error upon boot up or after
re-inserting the Toner Cartridge and Imaging Unit inside the printer.
It could be due to the Printhead not getting the required power to
start due to faulty signal transmission caused by improper insertion
of the Toner Cartridge and Imaging Unit.
The error means that the Printhead +5V power line was not ON
when the laser servo started. It is possible that the Printhead is not
defective.
To fix the issue, reseat the Toner Cartridge and Imaging Unit.
If issue persists, replace the Printhead assembly.

Display Issues on 2.4” Control Panels
Possible issues:
Flickering/flashing
Illegible text
White or blank screens
Troubleshooting steps will be similar to the previous products.
Check the connections.
If it’s okay and the problem persists, replace the control panel.

Unable to Insert Cartridge
This is due to the printers hold down feature dropping down.
Manually lift the cartridge hold down while inserting the cartridge, until
service can replace part. See the pictures on the next page.

Repetitive Defects at Photoconductor Drum Interval
The Imaging Unit is more sensitive to ESD which can result in
spots or horizontal lines.
If the Photoconductor Drum is damaged, it will cause a repeating
defect at 96.8mm.
Be sure to measure the defect interval accurately. The Fuser
repeating defect distance is 94.25mm - 95.2mm.
Print the Print Defects Guide from the Help Menu Pages in the
Customer Menus.
Since the dimensions are so close to the fuser, try swapping
Imaging Units as a possible action to see if the defect follows the
Imaging Unit or Fuser.
Replace the Part causing the problem.

Compressed Print When Printing on 8.5” Media using A4 Fuser
Most 220V printers are equipped with an A4 width fuser.
When printing letter size paper on an A4 fuser, the image will be
slightly compressed to enforce 8mm margins on the left and right side
to ensure robust fusing. This is by design.
As of firmware release P125/E215, there will be an option to crop the
image instead of compressing it. To make the change go to:
Configuration Menu>A4 Fuser
Select Compress (default) or Clip
In addition, there will also be a letter width HV fuser available.

Horizontal Registration Variation within a Scan Job
Scanned images will show some degree of horizontal registration
variation from page to page due to the mechanical deskew
mechanism.
The registration error becomes worse with increased input skew.
This issue is most apparent on Scan to File.
To resolve or lessen the effect, make sure the originals are neatly
stacked and edge guides are tight.

False 283.05 Scanner Jam Error
A false 283.05 scanner jam error is most likely due to dust build up on
a black Mylar strip at the 1
st
Scan Sensor.
Use compressed air to gently blow debris off the Mylar or perform a
more thorough cleaning of the debris by removing the covers.

Squeaking, Grinding and/or Clicking Noises
Squeaks (idle rolls, torque limiter), clicks (clutch, feed belt), and
intermittent grinding noises (transport drive 1st mesh, clutch) have
could be objectionable to a customer.
To resolve the issue, do the following:
Squeaking Noise add dry lubricant to idle rolls
Clicking Noise clutch will click against its rotational stop every time it engages,
feed belt assembly will click against outer guide, both are normal
Grinding Noise deskew clutch can make a grinding noise if parts are out of spec
or it is damaged (replace clutch); grinding noise can also occur if the transport
drive bracket studs are damaged (replace transport drive)
