information regarding replacement.
CHARCOAL FILTER INSTALLATION
If the microwave oven has been
installed for room venting, the air
vented by the fan will be recirculated
back into the room through a pair of
disposable charcoal filters that help to
remove smoke and odors. If these filters
become excessively dirty or discolored,
they should be replaced. Under normal
conditions, these filters should be
replaced once every 6 to 12 months.
Charcoal Filter Kit (EMA-400)

AUTO SENSOR MICROWAVING
The Auto Sensor feature makes microwave cooking easy and simple. Using
the built-in humidity sensor, the oven measures the amount of steam/humidity
in the oven to determine the best cooking time and power level for the food
placed in the oven. The process is automatic, and there's no need to enter food
amount or cooking time. A variety of popular food categories have been
preprogrammed in the 8 Direct Access keypads. Simply press a food keypad
for the food and then
START
, and the oven does the rest.
Food Keypads:
For the Soup/Beverage category only, you must enter the number of servings
(up to 3 servings) after pressing the food keypad.
Notes:
Food examples suitable for each keypad are shown on pages 28-29.
Use the
POPCORN
keypad to prepare prepackaged microwave-ready
popcorn. Usable bag sizes: 50-g to 100-g only.
Example -
To reheat precooked pizza:
Note:
Do not open the door until time count down starts in the display.
MORE/LESS Adjustment
The
MORE/LESS
keypad allows fine adjustments in Auto Sensor microwaving
by either increasing or decreasing the preprogrammed cooking time. When

AUTO SENSOR MICROWAVING TIPS
General Sensor Cooking/Reheating:
For foods not listed in the Sensor
Reheating/Cooking Guide (pages
28 - 29), use Time cooking.
•After
START
is pressed, do not
open the door while the words
SENSOR COOKING scrolls across
the display. During this time, the
oven is measuring the amount of
steam generated from the food.
The oven then determines the
heating or cooking time for the
food.
Room temperature should be
below 35°C.
Keep the inside of oven, the
turntable and the outside of
cooking containers dry. Wipe off
all spillovers. Excessive humidity
in the oven may result in an
incorrect cooking time.
Always cover food completely
(but not too tightly) with wax
paper, plastic wrap or casserole
lids. Loose-fitting covers may
cause the oven to miscalculate
time. Never use tightly sealed
plastic containers such as those
with plastic snap closing lids.
CHILLED ENTREE
FROZEN ENTREE
Use this keypad for 1 - 2 servings.
Very dense foods (e.g. frozen
lasagna) should be allowed to
stand covered after reheating.
The following foods are not
recommended: Boil-in-the-bag
entrees or vegetables, raw or
uncooked food, food that must be
reheated uncovered, foods
needing a dry look or crisp
surface after reheating, frozen
cheesecake, dried foods, bread or
pastry, beverages.
Do not heat in foil containers.
When heating 1 cup (250 mL) of
delicate sauces/dips that contain
sour cream, eggs or cream
cheese, use Time Cooking on
power level P30 for 4 - 5 minutes
and stir halfway through cooking
time.
SOUP/BEVERAGE
When heating canned soups,
remove from can. Add milk or
water as directed on can. Place in
a microwave-safe bowl or cup.
Liquid must be room or
refrigeration temperature.
POPCORN
Use bag sizes 50 - 100 g only.

TEMPERATURE COOKING
Using the temperature probe, Temperature Cooking allows you to heat food to
a specific temperature set by you. This is ideal for cooking large, dense food
such as roast or whole chicken to optimum results. When the food reaches the
temperature you have set, cooking stops automatically. During Temperature
Cooking, the oven automatically sets to Turntable Off mode.
Example:
To cook a roast beef to medium (150ºF), set power level to 50.
Insert the pointed end of the probe into the roast. Plug the other end into the
socket located on the right inside wall of the oven.
When the internal temperature of the food reaches 150ºF, the oven stops and
switches into Hold Warm setting. Take the food out of the oven as soon as the
display shows HOLD. Remove the probe. Let the meat stand covered with foil
for about 10 minutes before serving. The temperature will rise about 15ºF
during standing time.
Pause Reminder
About halfway through the temperature cooking process, 5 beeps sound to
remind you to turn the food. If necessary, remove the probe from the meat,
turn the dish and the reinsert the probe. If you do not open the door at the
reminder, the oven continues to complete cooking. The Pause prompt scrolls
across the display.
Note:
Temperature can be set from 90ºF to 200ºF.
If you enter a temperature higher than 200ºF or lower than 90ºF, a beep
sounds. Re-enter a temperature within the range.
The display shows the internal food temperature as soon as it reaches
90ºF.
To check the set temperature during cooking, press
TEMP COOK/ROAST
.
The display shows the set temperature.
After Temperature Cooking is over, the oven switches into Hold Warm for
up to 60 minutes, or until the door is opened, or you press
STOP/CLEAR
.
The temperature probe should be inserted horizontally. Do not insert the
probe from the top.
If the temperature probe is not plugged in when you press
TEMP COOK/
ROAST
then
START
,
the display shows SET PROBE. Press
STOP/CLEAR
to
remove the message, and plug the probe into the socket.
If you start cooking other than temperature cooking when the
temperature probe is plugged in, REMOVE PROBE scrolls across the
display. Remove the probe when this message appears.

TEMPERATURE COOKING (CONT.)
Thermometer:
You can use the temperature probe as a kitchen
thermometer without using any of the oven's cooking features. Insert the
pointed end of the probe into the food, and plug the probe into the socket
on the oven cavity wall. The display shows the food temperature when it
is between 90ºF and 200ºF.
If an Error Message appears...
ERROR 3:
The temperature probe is damaged. Replace the probe.
Contact Sanyo Service Center for ordering.
ERROR 4:
When the temperature does not reach the set temperature
after 2 hours of cooking. The oven automatically turns off.
CAUTION:
Do not plug the pointed end of the temperature probe into
the socket.
TEMPERATURE COOKING TIPS
General Cooking Tips:
Insert the temperature probe into
the thickest part of the meat or in
the center of the food to be
heated. Avoid touching bone or
fat.
The first inch of the temperature
probe should be in the densest
part of the food to be cooked.
Remove the temperature probe
from the oven after use.
Turn meat once during cooking.
Do not operate the oven empty
with the temperature probe
plugged in.
Do not leave the temperature
probe unplugged in the cavity
when operating the oven.
Do not let the temperature probe
touch the side walls, turntable or
door when in use.
Do not plug the pointed end of the
temperature probe into the socket
inside the cavity.
Do not use the temperature probe
in a regular oven. This probe is
designed for this microwave oven
only.
Temperature cooking is not
recommended for thin items or
foods that require tenderizing by
simmering. Use Time Cooking
instead (page 14).
For items not listed in the Cooking
Guide on page 32, use Time
Cooking.

AUTOMATIC DEFROST BY WEIGHT
Automatic Defrost allows you to easily defrost food. Power levels and times are
automatically determined when the food weight is entered.
TOTAL DEFROST:
Use for thorough defrosting of larger, dense frozen foods, when it
is important to have the center section defrosted as well as the outside. Ideal for items
such as roasts, whole chicken and steak.
QUICK DEFROST:
Use to assist separation of frozen pieces of chicken or fish that
need preparation prior to cooking.
Excellent for defrosting ground meat for use in
spaghetti sauce or tacos.
Example:
To thoroughly defrost a 2.5 kg whole chicken:
Defrosting Techniques:
Remove freezer paper, plastic wrap or foil wrap. Place food in a microwave-safe
dish.
To prevent thin parts and edges from becoming too warm and cooking
before center of food is defrosted, shield with small pieces of aluminum foil.
Because some foods will still be icy in the center, it is necessary to have a
standing time after defrosting the food in the oven. Food should be taken out of
the oven to complete defrosting. A longer standing time might be required for
denser foods such as roasts.
To defrost items not listed in defrosting chart, use Time defrosting
(see page 14).
The total defrost includes preset standing time.
Note:
Maximum weight for defrosting is 2.9 kg.
The oven selects 1 kg if a weight is not entered.
Five beeps sound during the defrosting cycle to signal that food should
be rearranged to improve defrosting performance.
Open the door and
rearrange the food. The oven continues the defrosting cycle to the end if
you do not open the door.
Food can be defrosted in a styrofoam package.
If weight of food is stated in pounds and ounces, it must be converted
to kilograms.
