5023 Data Collection PC User’s Manual Addendum
This addendum explains new features and functions available on the 5023 Data
Collection PC™ with firmware release 3.0. Read this addendum to learn about these
new features and then store this addendum with your user’s manual for future reference.
By adding this addendum, the part number of the 5023 Data Collection PC User’s
Manual is 070698-003.
Firmware Release 3.0 Features
The 5023 now ships with Windows
®
CE 3.0, providing greater storage and file-handling
capabilities.
Other new features have been introduced in this firmware release for the 5023. The next
sections explain these new features and describe where to go for more information.
General Features
Help for new users In the Start menu, choose 502X Intro in the Programs list to view
Introducing the 502X, an online document intended for new 502X users. Introducing
the 502X includes basic configuration and navigation information. For help with
accessing the Start menu, see Using the Start Menu in Chapter 1 of the 5023 users
manual.
Internet Explorer (IE) 5.0 Web browser You can use Internet Explorer for Web
browser-based data collection applications. For help, see Using Internet Explorer in
Chapter 5 of the 502X Data Collection PC System Manual (Part No. 071479).
Unit Manager The Unit Management applications are now part of Unit Manager. For
help using Unit Manager, see Chapter 4, Using Unit Manager, in the 502X system
manual.
New default date and time Windows CE 3.0 sets the date and time to 12:00 A.M.,
June 1, 2001 when you cold boot the 5023. You can set the date and time by using
the Fast Config or Configuration applications. For help, see Using Fast Config or
Using the Configuration Application in Chapter 2 of the 5023 users manual.

Increased memory The 5023 now ships with 16MB RAM and 32MB flash memory.

Changes to Configuration Commands
Firmware release 3.0 for the 5023 includes these changes to configuration commands:
All IDRS (Intermec Device Registration Services) commands are now available.

Upgrading or Restoring an Operating System Image
You must return a 5023 to the factory for upgrading to firmware release 3.0. Contact
your Intermec service representative for more information.
If you think your 5023 with firmware release 3.0 has a corrupted operating system
image, contact your Intermec service representative to confirm that you need to restore
the operating system and to obtain a new image. For more information, see Upgrading
or Restoring the 5023 Operating System Image in Chapter 4 of the 5023 users manual.
