Safety
Never use the Multitester on direct or alternating current circuits with
an effective voltage over 600 V, or at an effective voltage of ± 600 V
compared to the earth voltage.
Always check the condition of the batteries before using your Multitester 709.
Never carry out resistance tests on a circuit under tension.
Never open the Multitester case without first disconnecting it from any power source.
Never connect the Multitester to the circuit to be tested if the case is not properly
closed.

Reading the display
Liquid crystal display with 2,000 measurement gradations
(figure height: 10
mm)(maximum 600 V)
and measurement frequency of two measurements per second.
Automatic symbol display. The left-hand side "
1
" is a flashing display. Automatic
setting selection.
The symbol indicated below lights up when the particular function is activated.
Batteries are low.
HOLD Last value stored in memory.
~ Present measurement is of alternating current.
Present measurement is of direct current.
Continuity test function is active
(beep function is activated)
.
k mV The test unit symbol is activated.
The figures display the value of the test unit.
A - Fit the removable red plug in the housing on the top side of the equipment.
B - Fit the plug at the end of the black lead as indicated by «B» in the diagram below.
Thus positioned, the distance between the two contacts is the same as that found on
standard electric plugs.

Measuring direct or alternating current voltages
Place the contacts in parallel on the circuit to be measured.
The equipment will begin to operate automatically, recognising whether the
current is direct or alternating and choosing the most appropriate of the four
possible settings to measure the tension.
Read the value shown on the display.
The value can be stored by pressing HOLD.
AC voltmeter * ~ Settings
DC voltmeter 2 V 20 V 200 V 600 V
Resolution 1 mV 10 mV 100 mV 1 V
Impedance 600 k
260 k
AC precision ~ ± 3 % of figure displayed ± 5 points
DC precision ± 2 % of figure displayed ± 2 points
Permitted overload 1000 V effective voltage over 5 seconds
* Operational range: 10 Hz to 400 Hz sinusoidal.
NB: If there is no readout on the display, there is no voltage or the voltage
is lower than 600 mV.
Automatic stop: once disconnected from the circuit, the Multitester 709 will
switch off automatically and the display will go out.
The 709 can detect phase and neutral in an outlet socket:
Non-earthed socket:
Introduce the red contact into the socket
(the black contact is not used)
:
if the display lights up, this is phase.
if the display does not light up, this is neutral.
Earthed socket:
By attaching the black contact to earth and the red contact to phase or
neutral, the earth/phase or earth/neutral tension can be measured without
causing any break in the differentials
(consumption of 1.4 mA at 380 V)
.
...
12
Measuring continuity and resistance
Remove supply to the circuit or resistance to be tested.
Connect the Multitester to the terminals of the circuit or resistance to be
tested.
Press the push button on the back of the equipment and keep
this button pressed in for the duration of the test; in this way the
display is programmed at the 2 k setting.
Read the value shown on the display.
The value can be stored by pressing HOLD.
Disconnect the 709 from the circuit and stop pressing the push button: the
equipment stops automatically.
(Ohm) : 2 k
(1)
Resolution : 1
Precision : ± 3% of figure displayed ± 2 points
Maximum tension on open circuit : 400 mV
Maximum short circuit tension : 150 µA
Electronic protection : 600 V effective tension
(maximum 5 seconds)
(1)
Produces continuous beep sound when
for total resistance : R 500 ± 50
for a specific resistance : R > 1,999 k and the «1» is flashing.
Volt test:
If the circuit is accidentally placed under tension during the resistance test,
the red warning light above the volt test symbol comes on.
Stop pressing the ohmmeter button immediately; the 709 will display the
value of the voltage present.
13
Servicing
To store the equipment:
Place the red contact in its housing on the back of the equipment.
Wind the black lead around the winding groove and fit the black
contact onto the side
(see diagram below).
To change the batteries, first remove the two screws from the lower
half of the equipment case.
