Drill operation
Inserting the battery
Set rotation direction switch (5) to centre position to avoid
unintentional starting. Insert charged battery (7) into
handle so that it is felt to engage and is flush with the drill.
Rotation direction
The rotation direction slide switch (5) is used to change
the rotational direction of the drill. Push the switch fully to
the left for forward (clockwise) rotation or to the right for
reverse (anticlockwise) rotation. Ensure that the slide
switch is pushed fully home in whichever direction,
otherwise you cannot depress the trigger switch. Similarly
you cannot move the slide switch whilst the trigger switch
is depressed. A useful side effect of this interlock can be
utilised during tool changing; if you move the rotation
selector to its half-way position, you cannot inadvertently
switch the tool on.
Setting the torque
The torque presetting ring (1) can be rotated to select any
one of 17 torque settings – with the correct setting the
drill will stop when the screw is flush with the material.
Align the number on the ring with the arrow on the body
to select the required torque.
Drill selection
The safety clutch (torque) is deactivated when the drill’
action is selected. The drill’ (anticlockwise) selection may
also be used for unscrewing.
Gear selection
A slide switch (2) enables you to select high or low gears –
only engage when the drill is at a standstill. If you
experience difficulty moving the gear selector to the fully
engaged positions, lightly rotate the drill chuck.
On/Off switch and speed control
The On/Off switch (6) provides electronic speed control of
your drill – the further switch is depressed the greater the
speed dependent on the torque/drill setting. If you
experience difficulty depressing the On/Off switch, check
the rotation selector (5) is fully engaged. Also, the work
area LED light (4) is lit when the On/Off switch is pressed.
Auto-lock
When the On/Off switch (6) is not activated and a bit is
located in the chuck (3), the drill spindle/tool holder is
locked. This will enable the drill to be used as a screwdriver
even when the power is off or the battery is flat.
Run-on brake
When the On/Off (6) switch is released the chuck will
automatically brake to a stop – there will be no run-on so
giving greater accuracy and safety in use.
Torch operation
Dual work lights
The torch has two lighting settings operated by the single
switch (10) – press once for main beam (9), press again for
the side light (11), then again for Off.
Battery charger operation
Charging
Connect mains plug of charger into mains socket – a red
LED light (12) indicates the charger is ready to use. Insert
battery into the charging compartment (8) – a green LED
light (12) will commence flashing indicating the battery is
being charged. A discharged battery will take
approximately 60 mins to fully charge – continuous
lighting of the green LED signals that the battery is fully
charged and may be removed.

General power tool safety
1 The electrolyte in the battery packs is corrosive. If a battery pack is
damaged and leaking, avoid contact with the skin; if contact is
made, flush the area with running water, pat dry and seek medical
attention and advice at the earliest opportunity, inform the
medical service that the contaminant was a ‘high alkaline,
corrosive liquid’. If the electrolyte comes into contact with the
eyes, flush with copious amounts of water only, seek medical
attention immediately, relaying the information above.
2 The tools are not designed for sub-aqua operation, do not use
when or where they are liable to get soaking wet. If tools are set
up in the open and it starts to rain, cover them up or move them
into the dry. If tools do get wet, dry them off as soon as possible
with a cloth or paper towel.
3 Keep the tools clean, it will enable you to see more easily any
damage that may have occurred. Clean the tools with a damp
soapy cloth if needs be, do not use any solvents or cleaners as
these may cause damage to the plastic parts or to the electrical
components.
4 Keep the work area as uncluttered as is practical, this includes
personnel as well as material. Keep tools and equipment out of
the reach of young children.
5 It is good practice to leave the tool and the battery pack
separated until work is about to commence; if this is not practical
do not carry tools around with fingers near the trigger switch, and
engage the stop-lock of the tool if one is available. It is preferable
to move small tools e.g. drills and jigsaws to the work area in their
carrying/storage cases; if this is not possible it is advisable that
you do not mount the blades or drill bits into the tool until you
reach the work area (they make effective stabbing tools if you trip
or stumble).
6 If you are working from ladders or towers, ensure they are securely
fixed/braced, and always maintain a balanced, comfortable
working posture and do not over-reach; the extra time required to
move the ladder or tower is a good trade off against injuries
sustained from a fall. Similarly non-slip footwear and non-slip
surfaces are a good investment.
7 If the work you are carrying out is liable to generate flying grit,
dust, swarf or chips, wear the appropriate safety clothing, goggles,
gloves, masks, etc; if the work operation appears to be excessively
noisy, wear ear-defenders. If you wear your hair in a long style,
wearing a cap, safety helmet, hairnet, even a sweatband, will
minimise the possibility of your hair being caught up in the
rotating parts of the tool, likewise, consideration should be given
to the removal of rings and wristwatches, if these are liable to be a
hazard.
8 Do not work with cutting tools of any description if you are tired,
your attention is wandering or you are being subjected to
distraction. A deep cut, a lost finger tip or worse, is not worth it!
9 Do not use the tools within the designated safety areas of
flammable liquid stores or in areas where there may be volatile
gases. There are very expensive, very specialised tools for working
in these areas.
10 Do not discard old batteries or old cutting tools of any description
into general rubbish; the cutting tools may still be sharp enough
to inflict an injury. Batteries if included in rubbish that is to be
disposed of by burning are an explosion hazard. Similarly, do not
dispose of old battery packs into clean water run-offs; if they
eventually leak, they will become a pollutant hazard.
11 Check that cutting tools are undamaged and are kept clean and
sharp, this will maintain their operating performance and lessen
the loading on the tool.
12 When not in use, tools and battery packs should, ideally, be
separated and kept in dry secure storage, care being taken to
ensure that battery terminals are not liable to be shorted together
by adjacent metal objects. Above all, observe – make sure you
know what is happening around you, and use your common
sense.
13 Before using the tool read the instructions thoroughly and make
sure you understand them. Prior to assembling the tool and its
battery pack, carry out a visual inspection of the tool, checking for
damage, or anything untoward. (Do you know who used it last?
That person may be able to confirm that the tool was "fine" when
last used or bits/blades need sharpening/replacing, etc). Check
that the battery pack is not leaking, that the battery terminals are
clean and the casing is not damaged.
14 When fitting blades/drill bits etc., refer to the manufacturer’s
instructions concerning the maximum capabilities of the tool in
various materials; observance of these guidelines and clean, sharp
tooling will ensure maximum performance and optimise the life
of your tool and its battery pack. Do not overload the tool.
15 Assemble the tool and the battery pack, taking care that the
battery is orientated correctly (where the battery packs are
virtually symmetrical). Ensure that the battery clicks’ into place, the
battery lock is engaged or the retaining cover is shut properly,
depending on the type of tool you have. A gentle tug on the
battery will confirm that it is locked in place.
16 Check that the blade/ bit is fitted correctly, e.g. check that blades
are correctly seated and fastened, check drill bits are in the centre
of the chuck jaws and hexagonal bits are gripped on their flats,
not across the corners. Check that any ancillary tools that may
have been required for the fitting of blades/bits, have been
removed and placed a safe distance away.
17 Where applicable, check the gear box setting, blade angle, the
direction of rotation and the torque setting. Give the tool a quick
‘burst’ off load and in a safe position to check that everything is
correctly set before proceeding with the work operation.
18 Where the workpiece is a small loose item consider clamping it to
a firm work surface to prevent movement and to enable you to
have both hands free to operate the tool. If you are drilling in a
hard material, consider a small pilot drilling to maintain the drill
position during the main operation. When drilling metal it is
preferable to use a centre punch to accurately locate the drill bit.
19 If the tool becomes excessively hot, perhaps during or after a long,
hard work session, run the tool off load for a few minutes to allow
the armature fan to move cooling air through the tool, and then
set aside for at least 10 minutes to cool down. Try to avoid work
situations that subject the tool to continuous overheating.
20 When the work operation is complete, disassemble the tool, carry
out an inspection for damage of both the tool and the
cutting
tools used, store in a dry secure area and re-charge any
depleted battery packs.
