WARNINGS

It is most important that this instruction book

should be retained with the appliance for future

reference. Should the appliance be sold or trans-

ferred to another owner, or should you move

house and leave the appliance, always ensure that

the book is supplied with the appliance in order

that the new owner can be acquainted with the

functioning of the appliance and the relevant

warnings.

These warnings are provided in the interest of

safety. You must read them carefully before

installing or using the appliance.

ª This appliance is designed to be operated by

adults. Children should not be allowed to tamper

with the controls or play with the appliance.

ª Any electrical work required to install this appliance

should be carried out by a qualiﬁed electrician or

competent person.

ª This appliance should be serviced by an authorized

Service Centre, and only genuine spare parts

should be used.

ª It is dangerous to alter the speciﬁcations or modify

this appliance in any way.

ª Care must be taken to ensure that the appliance

does not stand on the electrical supply cable.

ª The domestic refrigerators and freezers are designed

to be used speciﬁcally for the storage of edible food-

stuffs only.

ª Frozen food must not be re-frozen once it has been

thawed out.

ª Manufacturers’ storage recommendations should

be strictly adhered to. Refer to relevant instructions.

ª There are working parts in this appliance which

heat up. Always ensure that there is adequate

ventilation as a failure to do this will result in

component failure and possible food loss. See

installation instructions.

ª Parts which heat up should not be exposed. Wher-

ever possible the back of the appliance should be

against a wall.

ª Before any cleaning or maintenance work is carried

out, be sure to switch off and unplug the appliance.

ª If the appliance is transported horizontally, it is

possible that the oil contained in the compressor

ﬂows in the refrigerant circuit. It is advisable to wait

at least two hours before connecting the appliance

to allow the oil to ﬂow back in the compressor.

ª The inner lining of the appliance consists of chan-

nels through which the refrigerant passes. If these

should be punctured this would damage the appli-

ance beyond repair and cause food loss. DO NOT

USE SHARP INSTRUMENTS to scrape off frost or

ice. Frost may be removed by using the scraper

provided. Under no circumstances should solid ice

be forced off the liner. Solid ice should be allowed

to thaw when defrosting the appliance. See defrost

instructions.

ª Do not place carbonated or ﬁzzy drinks in the

freezer as it creates pressure on the container,

which may cause it to explode, resulting in damage

to the appliance.

ª This appliance is heavy. Care should be taken when

moving it.

ª Ice lollies can cause frost burns if consumed

straight from the appliance.

ª Under no circumstances should you attempt to

repair the appliance yourself. Repairs carried out by

inexperienced persons may cause injury or more

serious malfunctioning. Refer to your local Service

Centre, and always insist on genuine spare parts.

ª This appliance does not contain gasses which

could damage the ozone layer, in either its refrig-

erant circuit or insulation materials; it must never-

theless be disposed off in a proper manner, in

accordance with regulations for protection of the

environment.

INSTALLATION

If this refrigerator featuring magnetic door seals is

to replace an older appliance having a spring lock

on the door or lid, be sure to make that spring lock

unusable before you discard the old appliance.

This will prevent it from becoming a death-trap for

a child.

Location

Place the appliance as far away as possible from

sources of heat, e.g. radiators, heaters, direct sun-

light, etc. The best results are achieved with a room

temperature ranging from +18°C to +43°C (class T) or

from +18°C to +38°C (class ST). The class of your ap-

pliance is shown on its rating plate.

Power connection

Before plugging the appliance into the mains socket,

check that the voltage and frequency indicated on the

appliance’s rating plate are the same as those provid-

ed by your home power supply.

A 6% ﬂuctuation above or below rated voltage is ac-

ceptable.

For operation using different voltages you should use

an autotransformer of suitable capacity.

The appliance’s plug and the wall socket are fully

compatible, without any need to use adaptors, multi-

ple plugs, etc. If this is not the case, the wall socket

should be replaced to make it compatible.

The appliance MUST be connected to an efﬁcient

earth or ground tap.

The supply lead plug in fact incorporates a special

earth or ground contact for this purpose. If by any

chance the sockets of your domestic wiring system

are not earthed, the appliance must be connected to a

separate earth or ground wire by a qualiﬁed electri-

cian, in accordance with existing safety regulations.

The manufacturer declines to accept any liability if

this accident-prevention procedure is not fol-

lowed.

This appliance complies with E.E.C. directive no. 87/308

of 2.6.87 relative to radio interference suppression.

This appliance complies with the following

E.E.C. Directives:

- 73/23 EEC of 19.2.73 (Low Voltage Directive) and

subsequent modiﬁcations;

- 89/336 EEC of 3.5.89 (Electromagnetic Compatibil-

ity Directive) and subsequent modiﬁcations.

Cleaning the appliance’s interior

Before using the appliance for the ﬁrst time, wash all

internal parts with lukewarm water and neutral soap

so as to remove the typical «new» smell and then drv

thoroughly.

Do not use detergents or abrasive powders as these

will damage the ﬁnish.

Door reversibility (Fig. 1)

Before ﬁtting the appliance in the kitchen furniture

and connecting it to the power supply, if neces-

sary, change the door opening side (from right to

left). Proceed as follows:

1. Place the appliance on its back, putting packing

material between it and the ﬂoor to avoid dama-

ging the appliance cooling pipes.

2. Unscrew the bolts.

3. Assemble the spacers and the bolts on the opposi-

te side.

Installation of the appliance in a ﬁtted

kitchen unit

(Fig. 3)

ª Drill the unit using a Ø 2.5 mm drill (10 mm max.

penetration);

ª Fix the square ﬁtting (1) to the appliance and apply

the rubber seal;

ª If the door is not already assembled ﬁx the square

ﬁtting (2) to the refrigerator and ﬁtting (3) to the unit

column.

ª Fit the refrigerator into the space recessing it by

48 mm in relation to the unit base (Fig. 4);

ª Fix the refrigerator with the screws (5) to the upper

and lower part of the unit, after having inserted the

ﬁttings (6) under the lower hinges;

ª Fix the square ﬁtting (1) to the unit column and the

square ﬁttings (2-3) to each other, after inserting the

clip (4).

ª Snap the ventilation grid.

ª Insert the hinge cover.

Instructions to assemble the refrigerator

door to the kitchen unit door

Position the runners (C) at the top and bottom of the

inside of the kitchen unit as shown in Fig. 5 and mark

the position of the external holes.

After preparing the holes, screw the runners to the

kitchen unit door using 3.5x16 mm screws.

Open both the appliance door and that of the kitchen

unit to approx. 90°.

Place the little plates over the runners. Hold the doors

of the appliance and the unit together and mark the

holes.

Remove the little plates and make the holes with a di-

am. of 3,2 mm. Replace the little plates over the run-

ners and screw in the screws provided (3.5x16 mm).

For the alignment of the kitchen unit door, if neces-

sary, use the clearance size of the slotted holes.

At the end of the procedure, check that the doors of

the appliance and the kitchen unit open properly.

Reversibility of the freezer door (Fig. 8)

When changing the hinges of the refrigerator door

from right to left, it is also advisable to change the

opening side of the freezer door.

Please take the following steps:

1. Remove the door lower hinge.

2. Remove the freezer door and take off the upper

hinge.

3. Unscrew the catch and ﬁx it on the opposite side.

4. Fix the upper hinge.

5. Mount the freezer door on the left side and ﬁx the

lower hinge.

USE

Operation - Temperature regulation

Rotate the thermostat knob clockwise until reaching

the desired position (beyond the «O» = stop position);

the best position is between 3 and 4.

The temperature is automatically regulated and can

be increased to achieve a higher temperature (less

cold) by rotating the thermostat toward lower settings

or diminished (more cold) rotating the knob towards

higher settings.

However, the exact setting should be chosen keeping

in mind that the temperature inside the refrigerator de-

pends on:

room temperature;

how often the door is opened;

the quantity of food stored;

location of appliance.

To stop operation, simply turn the thermostat knob to

position «O».

When the refrigerator is set for the coldest temper-

atures, with a high surrounding room temperature,

it will probably be in constant operation, with con-

sequent frosting of the back wall of the compart-

ment. If this does occur, the knob should be set to

obtain a slightly higher temperature. In this way

the refrigerator automatically defrosts, with a con-

siderable energy saving.

Storage of foods in refrigerator compart-

ment

To achieve the best results with the refrigerator com-

partment, you should follow one or two very simple

rules:

Do not put warm foods or evaporating liquids in the

refrigerator.

Cover or wrap foods (particularly if they have a strong

smell or contain aromatic herbs).

Do not cover the shelves (grids) with paper or plastic

since this blocks circulation of air in the compartment.

Place the food so as to allow air circulation.

Foods should be positioned inside the refrigerator

compartment as indicated in Figure 9.

1. Cold cuts, cheese, butter, milk

2. Meat and ﬁsh

3. Fruit and vegetables.

Raw meat (of all types) should be stored in plastic

bags. Max. conservation time: 1-2 days.

Cooked foods, cold dishes, etc., should be well cov-

ered and can be placed on any grid.

Fruit and vegetables should be washed before being

stored in the speciﬁc drawer.

Bananas, potatoes, onions and garlic, if not packed,

must not be kept in the refrigerator.

Movable shelves

The walls of the refrigerator are equipped with a series

of runners so that the shelves can be positioned as

desired.

Storage door accessories

The shelves can be easily removed if they are to be

cleaned or positioned at different heights. To do that,

push them upwards (see Fig. 11).

Freezing of fresh food and storage of fro-

zen food

The freezer compartment is marked with which

means that the compartment is suitable for the freez-

ing of fresh food and for the long term storing of fro-

zen food.

Freezing of fresh food

To freeze fresh food it is not necessary to change the

thermostat knob position from that of normal function-

ing.

To help you get the best out of the freezing process,

here are a few hints:

Place the food to be frozen on the glass shelves of the

freezer;

Freeze only good-quality, fresh and well-cleaned

foods.

Split them into small portions to speed up freezing

and avoid having to thaw more food than you require.

Wrap the foods in foil or polythene ﬁlm, ensuring that

the wrapping adheres closely to the food and is well

sealed.

It is a good idea to mark the packs with the date on

which freezing started so that you can keep a check

on storage periods.

On the inner freezer door of certain models you will

ﬁnd schematic drawings of foods and animals indicat-

ing maximum storage time (in months) possible from

the time of freezing.

The foods for freezing should not be placed in contact

with already frozen foods. This would cause the tem-

perature of already frozen foods to rise.

During the freezing process, do not add further foods

for freezing and do not open the freezer door.

Never put ﬁzzy drinks in the freezer as they might

well burst.

A word of warning about ice lollies: they should not be

eaten straight out of the freezer as this might cause

cold burns.

The maximum amount of food which is freezable in 24

hours is indicated on the rating plate. This is to be

found in the refrigerator compartment on the bottom

left-hand side.

Storage of commercially frozen food

To get the best out of your freezer, you should ensure

that:

the products have been correctly stored by the re-

tailer;

you do not store products for longer than the time

speciﬁed by the food manufacturer;

avoid opening the door too frequently and when you

do open it, leave it open only for as long as is strictly

necessary.

If the freezer has been out of use for some time, be-

fore putting the products in the compartment let the

freezer run for at least two hours with the thermostat

knob on max. cold setting. After this, reset the freezer

for normal storage use.

If there happens to be a power failure during the

conservation of frozen food do not open the freez-

er door. If the freezer is completely full and the fail-

ure is short (from 10 to 12 hours), frozen products

will not be affected. Otherwise they should be

used up very quickly.

It is in fact important to remember that once the

foods have thawed out, they deteriorate fast and

cannot be re-frozen.

Freezer compartment defrosting

The air humidity that penetrates inside the appliance

when opening its door, accumulates on the evapora-

tor and particularly on its upper part, thus creating a

layer of frost. To avoid excessive formation of frost do

not leave the door open more than necessary.

The formation of a thin layer of frost (as for example

on the front edge of the freezer) does not require com-

plete defrosting. Eliminate this layer periodically using

a plastic scraper (do not use knives or sharp objects).

If a thick layer has formed it will be necessary to carry

out a complete defrosting as follows:

1. Take out all the frozen food and wrap it in newspa-

pers placing it in a container (basin or paper box,

etc.) in a cool place until the cleaning operations

have been completed.

2. Set the thermostat knob on «O» = stopped.

3. Leave the freezer compartment door open.

4. Do not scrape the ice or frost layer with sharp

objects. Do not use a heat diffuser or spray.

5. Eliminate the water which formed during defrosting

by means of a sponge or cloth.

6. Clean inside using a normal detergent for domestic

use.

7. After cleaning, dry properly inside.

8. After completing the operations, turn the thermo-

stat knob to 5-6 and leave it on this setting for 3-4

hours. After this period set the knob to a normal

position (medium).

9. Place the frozen food in the appliance again.

Refrigerator defrosting

Refrigerator defrosting is completely automatic. The

defrost water drains out through a trough into a spe-

cial container provided on top of the compressor

which is located at the back of the appliance, where it

evaporates.

Important

We particularly recommend the periodic cleaning of

the defrost water drain. Use the special cleaner pro-

vided already inserted into the discharge hole

(Fig. 12).

MAINTENANCE

Unplug the appliance before carrying out any

maintenance operation.

Interior cleaning

Wash the interior of the appliance and its accessories

with lukewarm water and sodium bicarbonate (one

spoon in 4 litres of water).

Rinse and dry carefully.

Idle periods

During periods when the appliance is not used, you

should remove the plug from the wall socket, defrost

and clean the interior and all accessories. During the

idle period leave the door slightly open, thus letting air

circulate and preventing the formation of mould and

unpleasant smells.

Replacing the interior light bulb

The light inside the refrigerator compartment is easy

to get at through the opening in the light holder.

If the light does not go on when the door is open,

check that it is screwed into place properly.

If it still does not light up, change the bulb.

The rating is shown on the light bulb cover.

SOMETHING NOT WORKING

If the appliance is not functioning properly check that:

the plug is ﬁrmly in the wall socket and the mains

power switch is on;

electricity is delivered; and controls are set to the cor-

rect position.

If your appliance is still not working properly after

making the above checks, contact your local dealer or

the nearest service centre.

To obtain fast service, it is essential that when you

apply for it you specify the model & serial number

of your appliance which can be found on the rating

plate located inside the appliance at the bottom on

the left hand side.
