The double-battery compartment connects one or two
STIHL AP batteries with a STIHL cordless product with a
holder for the double-battery compartment.
The double-battery compartment may be used when it is
raining.
The battery may be used when it is raining.
The STIHL AP battery supplies the STIHL cordless product
with power.
1 LED glows red. Battery too hot or too cold.
4 LEDs flash red. There is a malfunction in the
battery.
The data next to this symbol indicates the energy
content of the battery according to the cell
manufacturer’s specification. The energy content
available during operation is lower.
Do not dispose of the product with your household
waste.

4 Safety Precautions
During the work, the double-battery compartment is
connected to a cordless product as described in the
instruction manual for the cordless product.
The double-battery compartment must only be used in
ground-based gardening power tools.
WARNING
ï¿­ Failure to use the double-battery compartment or battery
as intended may result in serious or fatal injury to people
and damage to property.
â–º Use the double-battery compartment and battery as
described in this instruction manual.
4.3 Requirements for the User
WARNING
ï¿­ Uninstructed users cannot recognise or evaluate the
dangers posed by the double-battery compartment and
battery. This may result in serious or fatal injury to the user
or other people.
â–º If passing on the double-battery compartment or battery
to another person: provide them with the instruction
manual also.
â–º Make sure that the user meets the following conditions:
– The user is rested.
– The user is physically, sensorily and mentally capable
of operating the double-battery compartment and
battery and working with them. If the user is
physically, sensorily or mentally impaired, the double-
battery compartment and battery must only be used
under supervision or following instruction by a
responsible person.
– The user can recognise and evaluate the dangers
posed by the double-battery compartment and
battery.
– The user is of legal age or the user is being trained

– The user has received instruction from a STIHL
specialist dealer or a competent person before using
the double-battery compartment for the first time.

4.4 Work Area and Surroundings
4.4.1 Double-battery Compartment
WARNING

battery compartment. This may result in serious injury to
bystanding people, children and animals.
â–º Keep bystanding people, children and animals out of the
working area.
â–º Do not leave the double-battery compartment
unattended.
â–º Make sure that children cannot play with the double-
battery compartment.
â–º Read, understand and keep the instruction
manual.

4.4.2 Battery
WARNING

recognise or evaluate the dangers posed by the battery.
This may result in serious injury to bystanding people,
children and animals.
â–º Keep bystanding people, children and animals out of the
way.
â–º Do not leave the battery unattended.
â–º Make sure that children cannot play with the battery.
ï¿­ The battery is not protected against all ambient
conditions. If exposed to certain ambient conditions, the
battery may catch fire or explode. This may result in
serious injury to people and damage to property.
â–º Keep the battery away from metallic objects.
â–º Do not expose the battery to high pressure.
â–º Do not expose the battery to microwaves.
â–º Protect the battery from chemicals and salts.
4.5 Safe Condition
4.5.1 Double-battery Compartment
The double-battery compartment is in safe condition when
the following conditions are met:
– The double-battery compartment is not damaged.
– The double-battery compartment is clean.
– The double-battery compartment is working and has not
been modified.
– Only genuine STIHL accessories for this double-battery
compartment are attached.
– The accessories are correctly attached.
WARNING
ï¿­ If not in safe condition, components may no longer
operate correctly and safety devices may be disabled.
This may result in serous or fatal injury to people.
â–º Use an undamaged double-battery compartment.
â–º If the double-battery compartment is dirty or wet: clean
the double-battery compartment.
â–º Do not modify the double-battery compartment.
â–º Only attach genuine STIHL accessories for this double-
battery compartment.
â–º Attach the double-battery compartment as described in
this instruction manual.
â–º Never connect the electrical contacts of the double-
battery compartment to metallic objects and cause a
short circuit.
â–º Do not open the double-battery compartment.
â–º If anything is unclear: consult a STIHL specialist dealer.
4.5.2 Battery
The battery is in a safe condition if the following points are
observed:
– Battery is undamaged.
– Battery is clean and dry.
â–º Protect the battery from heat and fire.
â–º Do not throw the battery into a fire.
â–º Use and store the battery at temperatures
between - 10 °C and + 50 °C.
â–º Do not immerse the battery in liquids.

– Battery functions properly and has not been modified.
WARNING
ï¿­ A battery that is not in a safe condition cannot operate
safely. This can result in serious injuries.
â–º Never work with a damaged battery.
â–º Never attempt to charge a damaged or defective
battery.
â–º If the battery is dirty or wet: Clean the battery and allow
it to dry.
â–º Never attempt to modify the battery.
► Never insert objects in the battery’s openings.
â–º Never bridge the battery's contacts with metallic objects
(short circuit).
â–º Do not open the battery.
ï¿­ Fluid may escape from a damaged battery. The fluid can
cause irritation if it contacts the skin or eyes.
â–º Avoid contact with the fluid.
â–º In case of contact with the skin: Wash affected areas
with plenty of water and soap.
â–º In case of contact with the eyes: Rinse eyes with plenty
of water for at least 15 minutes and seek medical
advice.
ï¿­ A damaged or defective battery may smell unusual, emit
smoke or burn. This can result in serious or fatal injuries
and damage to property.
â–º If the battery smells unusual or emits smoke: Do not use
the battery and keep it away from combustible
substances.
â–º If the battery catches fire: Attempt to extinguish the
battery with a fire extinguisher or water.
4.6 Working
WARNING
ï¿­ In certain situations, the user may no longer be able to
concentrate on their work. This may result in the user
stumbling, falling and becoming seriously injured.
â–º Work calmly and carefully.
â–º If the light and visibility conditions are poor: do not use
the double-battery compartment.
â–º Watch out for obstacles.
â–º If signs of fatigue occur: take a break.
ï¿­ If the double-battery compartment changes or starts to
behave differently when working, it may not be in safe
condition. This may result in serious injury to people and
damage to property.
â–º Stop working, remove the battery and consult a STIHL
specialist dealer.
4.7 Transporting
4.7.1 Double-battery Compartment
WARNING
ï¿­ The double-battery compartment may tip over or move
during transport. This may result in injury to people and
damage to property.
â–º Remove the battery.
â–º Secure the double-battery compartment with lashing
straps, belts or a net so that it cannot tip over and move.
4.7.2 Battery
WARNING
ï¿­ The battery is not protected against all ambient
conditions. The battery may be damaged if it is exposed to
certain ambient conditions and damage to property may
occur.
â–º Never transport a damaged battery.
â–º Store the battery in non-conductive packaging.

may result in personal injuries and damage to property.
â–º Pack the battery in packaging in such a way that it
cannot move.
â–º Secure the packaging so that it cannot move.
4.8 Storing
4.8.1 Double-battery Compartment
WARNING
ï¿­ Children cannot recognise or evaluate the dangers posed
by the double-battery compartment. There is a risk of
serious injury to children.
â–º Remove the battery.
â–º Keep the double-battery compartment out of the reach
of children.
ï¿­ Moisture may cause corrosion of the double-battery
compartment's electrical contacts. This may result in
damage to the double-battery compartment.
â–º Remove the battery.
â–º Keep the double-battery compartment clean and dry.
4.8.2 Battery
WARNING
ï¿­ Children are not aware of and cannot assess the dangers
of the battery and can be seriously injured.
â–º Store the battery out of the reach of children.
ï¿­ The battery is not protected against all ambient
conditions. The battery may be damaged if it is exposed to
certain ambient conditions.
â–º Store the battery in a clean and dry condition.
â–º Store the battery in a confined space.
â–º Store the battery separately from the cordless product.
â–º Store the battery in non-conductive packaging.
► Store the battery at temperatures between -10°C and
+50°C.
4.9 Cleaning, Maintenance and Repair
WARNING
ï¿­ Abrasive cleaning agents, using a water jet for cleaning or
sharp objects may result in damage to the double-battery
compartment and battery. If the double-battery
compartment or battery are not cleaned correctly,
components may no longer operate correctly and safety
devices may be disabled. There is a risk of serious injury
to persons.
â–º Clean the double-battery compartment and battery as
described in this instruction manual.
ï¿­ If the double-battery compartment or battery are not
maintained or repaired correctly, components may no
longer operate correctly and safety devices may be
disabled. This may result in serous or fatal injury to
people.
â–º Do not maintain or repair the double-battery
compartment or battery yourself.
â–º If the double-battery compartment or battery need to be
maintained or repaired: consult a STIHL specialist
dealer.
5.1 Preparing the Double-battery Compartment for
Operation
The following steps must be performed before commencing
work:
â–º Check the battery, @ 8.1.
â–º Charge the battery fully as described in the instruction
manual for the STIHL AL 101, 300, 500 charger.
â–º Clean the double-battery compartment, @ 12.1.
â–º Make sure that the following components are in safe
condition:
– Double-battery compartment, @ 4.5.1.
– Battery, @ 4.5.2.

6 Displaying the Charge State and LEDs
â–º If the steps cannot be performed: do not use the double-
battery compartment and consult a STIHL specialist
dealer.
6.1 Displaying the Charge State
â–º Press button (1).
The LEDs illuminate green for approx. 5 seconds to
indicate the charge state.
â–º If the right LED flashes green: charge the battery.
6.2 LEDs on Battery
The LEDs can show the state of charge or malfunctions. The
LEDs can glow or flash green or red.
The state of charge is indicated when the LEDs glow or flash
green.
â–º If the LEDs glow or flash red: Troubleshooting, @ 14.
There is a malfunction in the cordless product or battery.
7.1 Inserting the Double-battery Compartment
A battery must be inserted in battery compartment 1; battery
compartment 2 can remain empty if necessary.
â–º Switch off the cordless product.
â–º Insert double-battery compartment (1).
â–º Push battery (2) into battery compartment (3) as far as it
will go.
Battery (2) engages with a click.
â–º Connect the double-battery compartment as described in
the instruction manual for the cordless product.
7.2 Removing the Double-battery Compartment
â–º Switch off the cordless product.
â–º Disconnect the double-battery compartment as described
in the instruction manual for the cordless product.

â–º If the LEDs do not glow or flash: Do not use the battery
and contact your STIHL servicing dealer.
There is a malfunction in the battery.

â–º Switch off the cordless product.
â–º Remove the battery.
â–º Remove the double-battery compartment from the
cordless product.
â–º If the battery is wet: allow the battery to dry.
â–º Clean the double-battery compartment.

10.2 Transporting the Battery
â–º Remove the battery.
â–º Make sure the battery is in a safe condition.
â–º Observe the following points when packing the battery:
– The packaging must be non-conductive.
– Make sure the battery cannot shift inside the packaging.
â–º Secure the packaging so that it cannot move.
The battery is subject to the requirements for the transport
of dangerous goods. The battery is classified as UN 3480
(lithium-ion batteries) and has been tested in accordance
with UN Manual of Tests and Criteria, Part III, sub-section
38.3.

11.1 Storing the Double-battery Compartment
â–º Switch off the cordless product.
â–º Remove the battery.
â–º Remove the double-battery compartment.
â–º Store the double-battery compartment in accordance with
the following conditions:
– The double-battery compartment is out of the reach of
children.
– The double-battery compartment is clean and dry.
11.2 Storing the Battery
STIHL recommends that you store the battery with a charge
between 40% and 60% (2 LEDs glow green).
â–º Observe the following points when storing the battery:
– Battery is out of the reach of children.
– Battery is clean and dry.
– Battery is in an enclosed space.
– Battery is stored separately from the product.
– Battery is in non-conductive packaging.
– Battery is in a temperature range between -10°C and
+50°C.
12.1 Cleaning the Double-battery Compartment
â–º Switch off the cordless product.
â–º Remove the battery.
â–º Remove the double-battery compartment.
â–º Clean the double-battery compartment with a damp cloth.
â–º Clean the electrical contacts of the double-battery
compartment with a paintbrush or a soft brush.
12.2 Cleaning the Battery
â–º Clean the battery with a damp cloth.
13.1 Maintaining and Repairing the Double-battery
Compartment
The double-battery compartment does not need to be
maintained and cannot be repaired.
â–º If the double-battery compartment is defective or
damaged: have the double-battery compartment replaced
by a STIHL specialist dealer.
13.2 Servicing and Repairing the Battery
The battery requires no servicing and cannot be repaired.
â–º If the battery has a malfunction or is damaged: Replace
the battery.
