2.5.2 Understanding the Alarms
A
CHARGER FAIL ALARM
occurs when one of the following conditions are present: Simultaneous Low DC
Voltage and Low DC Current, Internal Over Temperature Protection, or High Voltage Shutdown. Refer to Table
5.3 “Troubleshooting Chart” for alarm condition possible causes.
The
AC POWER FAIL ALARM
will trigger if the AC power to the unit is lost for longer than 20 seconds, the
green “AC ON” LED will turn off and the red “AC FAIL” LED will turn on solid. The alarm will automatically reset
when AC power is restored to the unit. When AC power is lost the front panel display and indicators will remain
powered by the connected batteries. See
Section 3.4 Settings Menu
for information on viewing and adjusting
the threshold voltage.
The
LOW DCV ALARM
will trigger if the DC voltage drops below the specified voltage threshold of the alarm
for longer than 5 seconds, the red “LOW DC VOLTAGE” LED will turn on solid. This is usually due to an AC
Failure, or the charger is overloaded into deep-current limit. It could also be caused by a rare failure of an
internal charger component. The alarm will clear once the low DC voltage condition is no longer present. See
Section 3.4 Settings Menu
for information on viewing and adjusting the threshold voltage.
The
END OF DISCHARGE ALARM
will trigger if the DC voltage drops below the specified voltage threshold of
the alarm for longer than 5 seconds, red “END OF DISCHARGE” LED will turn on solid. This is usually due to an
AC Failure, or the charger is overloaded into deep-current limit. It could also be caused by a rare failure of an
internal charger component. The alarm will clear once the low DC voltage condition is no longer present. See
Section 3.4 Settings Menu
for information on viewing and adjusting the threshold voltage.
The
HVSD ALARM
will trigger if the output DC voltage of the charger rises above the alarm threshold for
longer than 20 seconds, the red “HIGH VOLTAGE SHUT DOWN” LED will turn on solid. This is usually due to the
failure of an internal charger component. If the high DC voltage shut down alarm activates the DC output of the
charger shuts off to prevent irreversible damage to the battery. This alarm will stay latched until the unit is
reset by isolating from all power sources. See

The
HIGH DCV ALARM
will trigger
if the output DC voltage rises above the specified voltage threshold of the
alarm for longer than 5 seconds, the red “HIGH DC VOLTAGE” LED will turn on solid. It could be caused by a
rare failure of an internal charger component. The alarm will clear once the high DC voltage condition is no
longer present. See

The
LOW DC CURRENT ALARM
will trigger if the output DC current of the charger has dropped below the
alarm threshold for longer than 5 seconds, the amber “LOW DC CURRENT” LED will turn on solid. This is usually
caused by the load (if applicable) being disconnected or going into a sleep state as well as the battery (if
applicable) reaching a full charge. In rare cases this could be the result of certain load sharing setups in which
the other charger is set up to supply more power to the load. See

The
NEGATIVE GROUND ALARM
will trigger if any current between the negative terminal of the battery and
earth ground is measured, the red “NEGATIVE GROUND FAULT” LED will turn on solid. A negative ground alarm
would signify that the negative terminal of a floating battery has become grounded. The alarm will clear once
the negative ground condition is no longer present. If the charger has ground detection disabled this alarm will
not function.
The
POSITIVE GROUND ALARM
will trigger if any current between the positive terminal of the battery and
earth ground is measured, the red “POSITIVE GROUND FAULT” LED will turn on solid. A positive ground alarm
would signify that the positive terminal of a floating battery has become grounded. The alarm will clear once
the positive ground condition is no longer present. If the charger has ground detection disabled this alarm will
not function.
