1 Introduction
This document details the Valerus SmartAnalytics software licensing procedure.
Note that if you are purchasing a certified server from Vicon at the same time
you are purchasing the license, the Valerus SmartAnalytics license will be
activated at the factory.
2 Basic Definitions
Licenses
Licensing is based on licensing types as defined in Vicon’s Price List.
License Certificate
Vicon provides a License Certificate to the customer as proof of purchase. The
certificate contains the licenses included in the customer-submitted PO.
Serial Number
Each software installation is identified by a unique serial number similar to the
following format:

Machine ID
A Machine ID is a unique identifier of the server on which Valerus
SmartAnalytics is installed. It can be found by clicking the Generate Machine ID
from the SmartAction, Administrator Resources screen.

3 Valerus SmartAnalytics Installation and Activation
Below is a simple flow chart that summarizes the process to license Valerus
SmartAnalytics. A detailed description of the process follows.
3.1 Activation
Before you complete the Activation form, you will need to provide the Machine
ID for your server. You will also need the license certificate number previously
received.
Open Valerus SmartAction on your server. The default user/password is
admin/Master (case sensitive). Select Administrator Resources at the top, click
the License tab and click Generate Machine ID. This will generate a file with the
Machine ID, which is required in order to complete the Activation Form.
Once you have all the necessary details and the server ready, you can proceed
to activation.
After a PO is submitted to Vicon,
you will receive a license
certificate. This certificate
number will be required when
you activate your license.
Go to Vicon’s website, Software
Downloads. Click on the Valerus
SmartAnalytics software. Fill out
the form. You will receive an
email with a link to the software.
Install the software on your PC.

Using the link provided when you received your license certificate, or going to
Vicon’s website, Learn and Support, Software Registration, complete the
Activation Form.
Within a few hours, you will receive a return email with the license file.
Download this file to your Valerus SmartAnalytics server.
Open Valerus SmartAction on your server. Select Administrator Resources at
the top and then the License tab. Select Activate License offline.

This file browsing window appears:
Locate and upload the License File received from Vicon and then select
“Activate”.
You will get an indication if the license is now successfully activated or if
the activation failed for any reason.
An Evaluation license is available upon request. Speak to your Vicon
representative if you require an evaluation license.
4 Changes to Licenses
If you need to make changes to an existing license, such as adding more
channels or changing properties, speak to you Vicon sales representative.
4.1 License has Expired
If you used a temporary license, for evaluation as an example, you will receive
a notification when your license is about to expire.
