PRIORITY POWER UNITS
UP508P
GENERALITY
Monophonic power units have been designed general applications in civic sound recording field.
P.Us. have 2 inputs arranged with independent volume control.
Each input, electronically balanced (on XLR connectors), has a LINK auxiliary output for cascade
connection of more power units.
PRIORITY input (on 5 pin DIN connectors) gets priority on PROGRAM input (on DIN connectors).
At the same time of priority activation, the exchange on SECIRITY PAGING connector contact
happens for using in safety systems with 3-wire lines.
To activate the priority input, it is enough to plug 2 and 5 pins of DIN connector.
Units are equipped with protections against output short circuits and against over temperature.
On the front panel there are: power leds, priority and protection leds.
The unit has a natural dissipation cooling system.
Loudspeaker audio power outputs are arranged for connection with constant impedance lines and
constant voltage lines.
The whole electronic circulation has quality and safety features in working.
Metal framing is suitable to be supported on a surface (table, etc.) and is equipped with separated
stirrups for assembly in 19” rack.
UP508P also has vu-meter for output power indication on the front panel. Forced ventilation
cooling system has a variable speed in function of the temperature.

POWER SUPPLY
The unit is expected to work with 230 VCA – 50/60 distribution system and with 24 VCC battery.
In case of power dysfunction, check the outside and inside protection fuses (for 24 VCC) and
eventually replace them with others of same calibration; if one of them burns out immediately, do
not go on and have check the unit by qualified personnel.
Take away plug from 230 VCA electric power socket and 24 VCC battery always, before removing
fuses and, in any case, open the unit framing.
ACOUSTIC SPEAKER CONNECTIONS
Unit is supplied with a crossbar output terminal board for connection with constant impedance and
voltage lines.
- CONSTANT IMPEDANCE LINES
2, 4, 8 and 16 Ohms terminals should be used, using the legend layout.
In order to achieve the maximum efficiency of the system and to take precautions from amplifier
bad working, it is necessary to check the effective loading impedance of the lines. The total
speakers impedance should be equal or higher than pre-selected value for connection.
To get that, each loudspeaker should be without transformer and should be connected in series or
in series-parallel groups; In any case loudspeakers should also have the same power handling
(see fig. 2a).
- CONSTANT VOLTAGE LINES
50 V, 100 V terminals should be used with each loudspeaker provided with line transformer and
parallel connected, using the legend layout. See fig. 2b for 2-wire traditional connection and fig. 2c
for 3-wire safety connection.
In order to achieve the maximum efficiency of the system and to take precautions from amplifier
bad working, it is necessary to check the effective total power handling of the loudspeakers that
has to be equal or lower than the RMS power value of used amplifier. It’s a good rule arranging a
10-20% safety margin on the amplifier power capability (see fig. 2b).
