INSTRUCTIONS
The MA-78 Kelway
®
Soil Tester is designed for quick and accurate
readings, but its accuracy depends upon proper cleaning and
conditioning with the Conditioning Film.
The two metal plates on the lower part of the housing may
appear to be clean, but they must be properly conditioned
prior to each use.
1. Place the dull side of the Kelway Conditioning Film
around the plates, squeeze lightly and rotate a few
times.
2. Wipe the plates thoroughly with a clean rag or paper
towel.
3. After conditioning, do not touch the plates with your
ngers.
MAA-116
Insert the tester into the soil to a depth that fully covers the
metal plates, approximately 3 1/4in (83mm).
Press the soil tightly against the metal plates. The needle of
the metere willdeect far to the right, thenmove back to-
ward the left.
Withing 2 to 3 minutes, the needle will stabilize when it
reaches the proper pH reading.
One sheet of the Conditioning Film should be good for up
to 20 uses. The lm must be replaced when the needle fails
to move to the right upon insertion into the soil.
New Conditioning Film sheets can be ordered from Gilson
as MAA-116.
