and charge the battery.

ACplugofyourpoweradapterintoapoweroutletandtheMagSafeconnectorinto
theMagSafepowerport.AstheMagSafeconnectorgetsclosetotheport,you’ll
feelamagneticpulldrawingitin.

Step 2: Connect to a wireless or wired network.
 Touseawirelessnetworkwiththebuilt-inAirPortExtremetechnology,makesure
thewirelessbasestationisturnedonandthatyouknowthenameofthenetwork.

yourMacBook.IfyoualreadyhaveaMac,SetupAssistantcanhelpyouautomatically
transferles,applications,andotherinformationfromyourpreviousMacusingan
Ethernetorwirelessconnection.Seethenextsection,“MigratingInformationtoYour
MacBook,”formoreinformation.
Ifyoudon’tintendtokeeporuseyourotherMac,it’sbesttodeauthorizeitfrom
playingmusic,videos,oraudiobooksthatyou’vepurchasedfromtheiTunesStore.
Deauthorizingacomputerpreventsanysongs,videos,oraudiobooksyou’ve
purchasedfrombeingplayedbysomeoneelseandfreesupanotherauthorization
foruse.Forinformationaboutdeauthorizing,chooseiTunesHelpfromtheHelpmenu
iniTunes.

Migrating Information to Your MacBook
YoucanfollowthepromptsinSetupAssistanttomigrateexistinguseraccounts,les,
applications,andotherinformationfromanotherMaccomputer.Youcandothiswith
oneofthefollowingmethods:
 UsinganEthernetcableconnecteddirectlytobothcomputers,orconnectingboth
computerstothesamenetwork
 Wirelessly—directlybetweenthecomputers,orwithbothcomputersonthesame
wirelessnetwork
Beforemigrating,useSoftwareUpdateonyourotherMac.TheotherMacshouldhave
oneoftheseversionsofMacOSXsoftware—eitherMacOSXv10.4.11orMacOSX
v10.5.6(orlater).
Youcanchoosetheitems(useraccounts,documents,movies,music,photos,andsoon)
thatyouwanttomigratetoyourMacBook.
Important: Don’tusetheotherMacforanythingelseuntilthemigrationiscomplete.
Ifyoudon’tuseSetupAssistanttotransferinformationwhenyourststartup,youcan
doitlaterusingMigrationAssistant.Iftheconnectionisterminatedduringmigration,
youcanresumethemigrationatalatertimeusingMigrationAssistantonyour
MacBookandyourotherMac.GototheApplicationsfolder,openUtilities,and

Putting Your MacBook to Sleep
Ifyou’llbeawayfromyourMacBookforonlyashorttime,putittosleep.Whenthe
computerisinsleep,youcanquicklywakeitandbypassthestartupprocess.
To put your MacBook to sleep, do one of the following:
m Closethedisplay.
m ChooseApple()>Sleepfromthemenubar.
m Pressthepower(®)buttonandclickSleepinthedialogthatappears.
m ChooseApple()>SystemPreferences,clickEnergySaver,andsetasleeptimer.
NOTICE: Waitafewsecondsuntilthesleepindicatorlightstartspulsing(indicating
thatthecomputerisinsleepandtheharddiskhasstoppedspinning)beforeyou
moveyourMacBook.Movingyourcomputerwhiletheharddiskisspinningcan
damageit,causinglossofdataortheinabilitytostartupfromtheharddisk.

To wake your MacBook:
m If the display is closed, simplyopenittowakeyourMacBook.

Shutting Down Your MacBook
