.PRODUCT APPLICATION .
SURFACE PREPARATION
Proper surface preparation is critical to performance. Allow
new concrete to cure for a minimum of 28 days prior to
coating. Before coating bare concrete surfaces, remove
grease, oil, salt and other contaminants with EpoxyShield
®
Heavy-Duty Degreaser. Follow label instructions carefully.
Scrub spots thoroughly with a stiff bristle brush or broom.
Rinse thoroughly with fresh water. Repeat as necessary to
completely clean the concrete. If necessary, use a wire
brush or sander to remove any loose or unsound concrete
or masonry. If the concrete is loose, chipping (spalled), or
has concrete dust present, the coating will not perform
properly unless all loose material and dust is removed and
damaged areas repaired with EpoxyShield
®
Concrete
Patch & Repair.
Existing coatings or sealers must be removed prior to
applying Concrete Stain. Test for a sealer by lightly
sprinkling water on the surface of the concrete. If the water
droplets bead up rather than soak into the concrete, then a
sealer is present. The sealer will have to be removed by
an alternate method of surface preparation, such as
abrasive blasting or grinding.

WARNING! If you scrape, sand or remove old paint, you
may release lead dust. LEAD IS TOXIC. EXPOSURE TO
LEAD DUST CAN CAUSE SERIOUS ILLNESS, SUCH AS
BRAIN DAMAGE, ESPECIALLY IN CHILDREN.
PREGNANT WOMEN SHOULD ALSO AVOID
EXPOSURE. Wear a NIOSH-Approved respirator to
control lead exposure. Clean up carefully with a HEPA
vacuum and a wet mop. Before you start, find out how to
protect yourself and your family by contacting the National
Lead Information Hotline at 1-800-424-LEAD or log on to
www.epa.gov/lead.
PRODUCT APPLICATION (cont.) .
MIXING
Concrete Stain is ready to use. Do not thin. Shake the
container or mix thoroughly to ensure any settled pigment
is re-dispersed before applying.
APPLICATION
Do not stain outdoors if rain is expected within 48 hours.
Apply only when air, material, and surface temperatures
are between 50-90ºF (10-32ºC) and the surface
temperature is at least 5ºF (3ºC) above the dew point.
The relative humidity should not be greater than 85%. To
minimize overspray, properly mask adjoining areas and
avoid staining in windy conditions. If using more than one
gallon, intermix (box) all cans of the same product to
ensure color uniformity. Avoid applying Concrete Stain late
in the day when temperatures are falling. The formation of
dew can interfere with proper curing. Use a brush to trim
the perimeter and hard-to-reach areas. Using a high
quality pump sprayer with the tip set to fine mist, apply in a
circular or figure eight pattern. Ensure that the sprayer is
fully pressurized. To prevent drips and runs, start and stop
the sprayer just off the work area. Apply base coat evenly.
Apply two light coats versus one heavy coat. Allow
sufficient dry time (approximately 1 hour) between coats
and before applying accent colors. Do not allow the stain
to pool or puddle. If desired, apply accent color(s) over the
base coat to provide the desired level of contrast. Allow to
dry for approximately 1 hour. If desired, lightly mist the
original base color over the entire surfaced to further
soften” the look. On smaller areas, use a handheld trigger
sprayers, paint brushes, rags, sponges, or stipple brushes
to apply the stain.
CLEAN-UP
Wash tools and equipment with warm water and a mild
detergent immediately after use. Properly dispose of all
soiled rags and protect unused product from freezing.
