Avoid meats and animal waste.
To accelerate the composting process, use a pitch fork
or shovel to turn the compost pile frequently.
Use a balanced mixture of green waste (nitrogen-rich) and
brown waste (carbon-rich) for best results.
Green waste includes: grass clippings, fruits and vegetables,
coffee grounds and plant remains.
Brown waste includes: dead leaves, brown cardboard,
dried/dead plants and straw or hay.
Keep the compost pile damp and warm.
Add worms!
When the compost breaks down, it will look like dark rich soil
at the bottom of the pile. Use this natural, nutrient-rich soil as
fertilizer in your flower, fruit or vegetable garden.
