2. Keep anyone not wearing the appropriate safety equipment away from the work area.
NOTE: Minimize distractions in the work environment. Distractions can cause you to lose
control of the tool.

entanglement with a tool.
b. Do not operate any machine / tool when tired or under the influence of drugs,
alcohol or medications.
c. Do not overreach when operating a tool. Proper footing and balance enables better
control of a tool in unexpected situations.
SPECIFIC SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
This tool can be used to effectively and efficiently compress most sizes of MacPherson strut springs on
vehicles. Whenever a spring is compressed, one should always remember that a great deal of force has
been stored and must be controlled until relaxed. For your safety, please follow these procedures.
1. Refer to the vehicle manufacturer’s manual to acquaint yourself with the front-end assembly.
2. Never compress a greasy spring.
3. Never compress a spring beyond the amount necessary to remove it from the vehicle. Never
compress a spring lying flat when out of the vehicle.
WARNING! Do not use with impact tools.
4. Wear safety goggles and protective gloves when operating the tool.
TOOL USE AND CARE
1. Use the right tool for the job. Do not attempt to force a small tool or attachment to do the
work of a larger industrial tool. The tool will perform better and more safely at the task for
which it was intended.
2. This tool was designed for a specific function.
Do Not:
a. Modify or alter the tool; all parts and accessories are designed with built-it safety
features that may be compromised if altered.
b. Use the tool in a way for which it was not designed.
3. Maintain tools with care. Keep tools clean and in good condition for a better and safer
performance. The hooks must be kept clean, dry and free from oil and grease at all times.
Applying excessive force can lead to slips and damage to your work piece or serious
personal injury.
4. When not in use for an extended period, apply a thin coat of lubricant to the steel parts to
avoid rust.
5. Maintain the label and nameplate on the tool. These carry important information. If
unreadable or missing, contact Princess Auto for a replacement.

UNPACKING
1. Carefully remove the tool from the package.
a. Retain packing material until you have carefully inspected and satisfactorily installed or
operated the tool.
2. Inspect the parts carefully to make sure the tool was not damaged while shipping.
WARNING! If any part is missing, do not operate the tool until the missing parts are replaced.
Failure to do so could result in serious personal injury.
OPERATION
1. Assemble the two spring compressors by sliding the unthreaded compressor foot onto the
bolt until it stops at the bolt head. See figure 1. Then screw the threaded compressor foot
onto the bolt.
2. With the strut assembly held firmly in a vise, mount the strut spring compressors on
opposite sides of the spring. Feet should be as far apart as possible and the safety pins
should be fully engaged.
NOTE: Do not attempt to compress a spring if the spring wire diameter is too large for the
compressor seat.
CAUTION! If the spring does not fully seat in the compressor foot and the safety pins
cannot be engaged, then this compressor is not suitable. Attempting to use the
compressor on a spring that does not properly fit may result in tool breakage
and personal injury.
3. Alternately tighten both spring compressors, making sure to keep similar pressure on each
one. Use only a standard wrench or socket. Compress until the spring is loose within the
upper and lower spring seat.

WARNING! Do not use impact tools.
CAUTION! Do not compress the spring more than is necessary. Over compression of the
spring may result in tool breakage or serious personal injury.
4. Once the spring is sufficiently compressed, you may now remove the top strut lock nut and
remove the top strut bearing and mount. Remove the spring from the strut, being careful not
to jar the spring compressors.
a. If replacing the strut, place the spring on a new strut and reverse the
steps for assembly.
b. If replacing the spring, slowly loosen the strut spring compressors, being careful to
alternate between the two in order to back them off at an equal pace. Follow steps 2 and
3 to compress the new spring, then place the spring on the strut.
LUBRICATION AND MAINTENANCE
Keep the trust screw lubricated and clean.
STORAGE
Lubricate before storing. In the event that it becomes necessary to store the tool for an extended period
of time (overnight, weekend, etc.,) it should receive a generous amount of lubrication at that time to
prevent rust.
DISPOSING OF THE TOOL
If your tool has become damaged beyond repair, do not throw it out. Take it to the appropriate
recycling facility.
