ENCLOSURE

AIR OUTLET

• This air conditioner is NOT intended for use by children or infirm persons without supervisions.

Do net use Intermediate connection of the power supply cord or the extension cord and do not

connect many davlcos to one AC outlet.

• A fire or an electric shock may result from poor contact, poor insulation, exceeding the permissible

current, etc.

Do net scratch or process the power supply cord, etc.

• Do net put heavy object on the power supply cord and de not scretch or process the cord,The cord may

be damaged and this may cause a fire or an electric shock.

Do not turn the breaker off/on during operation.

• This may cause a fire due to spark, etc.

• Be sure to turn off the breaker absolutely after swgching the indoor unit etf with the remota controller.

Do net expose your skin dlreetly to cool air for a long time.

• This could damage your health.

Installetlon, repairs or relocetlon should not be done by the customer.

• If this is done incorrectly, it may cause a fire, an electric shock, or injury from the unit falling, water

leaking, etc. Consult your dealer.

• If the power supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or gs service agent in order

to avoid a hazard.

In the cooling mode, ifthe unit isoperated in a room with high humidity (80% RH or more) for a long time,

Do not Install the unit where flammable gas could leak,

• If gas leaks and collecte around the unit, it may cause an explosion,

Ground the unit.

• Do not connect the ground to a gas pipe, water pipe, lightning rod or the ground of a telephone. It the

grounding is incorrect, it may cause an electric shock.

Install a Ground Fault Interrupt (GFI) circuit breaker depending on the place where the air condi-

tioner Is to be Installed (humid places, etc.).

• If the Ground Fault Interrupt (GFI) cirouit breaker is not instelled, it may cause an electhc shock,

Drain should be fully drained.

• If the drainage route is incomplete, weter may drop from the unit.This may wet and damage the terniture.

PREPARATION BEFORE OPERATION

• These models are equipped with an auto restart function. If you do not want to use this function,

please consult the service representative because the setting of the unit needs to be changed.

Auto restart function Is ...

When the indoor unit is controlled with the remote controller, the operation mode, the set temperature and the fan speed are

stored in the memor_ If a power failure occurs or the main power is turned off during operation, "Auto restart function" sets

automatically to start operating in the same mode as the one set with the remote controller just before the shutoff of the main

power. (Refer to page 6 for details.)

• Turn the breaker on.

PREPARATION BEFORE OPERATION

] Remove the front lid and insert batteries.

Then reattach the front lid.

Insert the minus pole of the battertes first.

Check If the polarity of the batteries Is correct,

ward) buttons (TIME SET buttons) to set the

current time,

• Each time the [_ button is pressed, the set time

increases by I minute, and each time the r_ but-

ton is pressed, the set time decreases by I minute.

• Pressing those buttons longer increases/decreases

the set time by 10 minutes.

] Press the CLOCK set button again and close

the front lid,

Handling of the remote controller

• The range that the signal can reach is about 20 ft. when

the remote controlleris pointed at thefront ofthe indoor

URn.

• When a button is pressed, one or two beeps will be

heard from the indoor unit. If no soundis heard, operate

again.

• Use the remote controller carefully

If itis dropped, thrown or it gets wet, the remote contrOl-

ler may not operate.

• Since the display on the remote controller is made of

liquid crystal (glass), itmay not light up it it is damaged

from felling.

• Refer fe page 12 when the indcor unit dens nct respond

to the remote controlsignal•

When Instslllng on a wall, etc.

• Install the remote controller holder in a posiit on where

the signal reception sound (beap) can be heard from

the indoor unitwhen the _) button is pressed.

How to Installlremove the remote controller

• Reference for replacing batteries

Replace the baderies with new AAA alkaline batteries

in the following cases:

• When the indOOrunit does not respond to the remote

control signal.

• When the display on the remcte controller becomes dim.

• When a button of the remote controller is pressed, all

displays appear on the screen, and then disappear im-

mediately

Do not use manganese batteries. The remote controller

could malfunction.

• Theservicelifeofanalkalinebatteryisaboutt year.

However, a battery whose time limit is approaching may

be exhausted soon.The recommended usable itme limit

is indicated (month/year) on the bottom of the battery.

• To prevent liquid leakage, take out all betteites when

the remote con'_oller is not going to be used for a long

time.

CAUTION:

If liquid from the battertes gets onto your skin or

clothes, wash It well with clean water.

If liquid from the batterlea gets Into your eyes, wash

them well with clean water and consult a doctor at

once.

• Do not use rechargeable batteries.

• Replace the 2 betteries withnew ones of the same type.

• Dispose of exhausted batteites in the correct manner.

When the batteries of the remote controller run out or the remote controller maltenntlons, the emergency operation

can be done using the EMERGENCY OPERATION swlteh.

] Press the EMERGENCY OPERATION switch.

• Each time the EMERGENCY OPERATION switch Is

pressed, the unit will operate In order of EMER-

GENCY COOL MODE, EMERGENCY HEAT MODE

and STOP MODE.

However, when the EMERGENCY OPERATION

switch Is once pressed, the unit will operate In test

run for 30 minutes and then the operation mode

shifts to EMERGENCY MODE.

] To stop the emergency operation, press the

EMERGENCY OPERATION switch once (in

case of EMERGENCY HEAT MODE) or twice

(in case of EMERGENCY COOL MODE).

• Dntalls of EMERGENCY MODE are as shown be-

low. However, the temperature control does not

work for 30 minutes In test run and the unit Is set

to continuous operation. The ten speed Is sat to

High In test run and shifts to Medium after 30 min-

utes.

AUTO CHANGEOVER... AUTO MODE OPERATION

An automatic cooling and heating changeover operation system ensures easy control and year-round

air conditioning.

Once the desired temperature is set, unit operation is switched automatically between cooling and

heating according to the room temperature. In addition, fan control of the outdoor unit enables cooling

operation at outside temperature as low as 14°1=.

]Select the _ (AUTO) mode by pressing the I_ button.

Each time this button is pressed, the operation mode is changed in sequence:

The set temperature is also displayed on the remote controller.

• Press the _ button.

After the operation mode is set once, the operation starts in the same mode as

the one set previously from the next time by simply pressing the _ button.

• When the s_ temperature is to be changed:

• Press the _ button to raise the temperature. One press raises the temperature by about 1°E

(D When unit starts the operation with AUTO operation from oft;

• If the room temperature ishigher than the set temperature, operation starts in COOL mode.

• If the room temperature isequal to or lower than the set temperature, operation starts in HEAT mode.

(2) Mode change

(_ COOL mode changes to HEAT mode when about 15 minutes have passed with the room temperature 4 degrees

below the set temperature.

(_) HEAT mode changes to COOL mode when about 15 minutes have passed with the room temperature 4 degrees

above the set temperature.

NOTE:

If two or more Indoor units are operating In muitl system, there might be a case that the Indoor unit, which Is

operating In _ (AUTO), cannot change over to the other operating mode (COOL<_HEAT) and becomes a state of

standby. Refer to the dstalled Information for muttl system air conditioner explained on the right.

• Thase units are equipped with an aufo reatart fonc'don.When the main power is turned on, the air conditioner will start

operation automa'dcally in the same mode as the one set with the remote controller before the shutoff of the main

power.

• If the unit was sat to off with the remota controller batore the shutoff of the main power, it will remain stopped even affer

the main power is turned on.

• If the unit was in the emergency operation before the shutoff of the main power, itwill start operation, when main power

comes on, in the same mode as the one set with the remote controller before the emergency operation.

• If the unit is operated in "_;_,AUTO" mode batore power tsilure, the operation mode (COOL, DRY or HEAT) is not stored

in the memory. When the main power is turned on, the unit decides the operation mode by the initial room tamperatu re

at restart and starts operation again.

Multi system air conditioner can connect bNo or more Indoor units with one outdoor unit. According to the

capacity, two or more units can operate slmuitaneously,

• When you try to operata two or more indoor units with one oufooor unit simultaneously, one for the cooling and the other

for heating, the operation mode of the indoor unitthat operates earlier isselected, The other indoor units that will start the

operation later cannot operate, indicating an operation state, (Refer to the table of Operation Indicator lamp below,)

In this case, please set all the indoor units to the same operation mode.

• When indoor unitstarts the operation while the dstrosting st outdoor unit isbeing done, it takas a few minutas (max, 10

minutes) to blow out the warm air,

• In the heating operation, the indoor unit that does nst operata may gat warm or the sound of rstrigerard flowing may be

heard, This is not a malfunction since the refrigerant continuously flows into the indoor unit that does not operate,

The operation indicator at the right side of the indoor unit indicates the opera'don state.

MANUAL OPERATION (COOL, DRY, HEAT)

[] Press the I_ button.

]Select the operation mode by pressing the _ button.

Each time this button is pressed, the operation mode is changed in sequence:

After the operation mode is set once, the operation starts in the same mode as

the one set previously from the next time by simply pressing the _ button.

• When the s_ temperature is to be changed:

• When the outside famperature is low, the fan of the outdoor unit turns on and oft frequently or decreases the rotation

speed to maintain sufficient cooling capacity.

• The famperature control (temperature setting) cannot be done.

• The room temperature is slightly lowered in this operation mode.

• The details of the display on the indoor unit are explained on page 6.

If the air conditioner does not cool or heat effectively,..

If the fan speed is set to Low orAUTO, some'dmes the air conditioner may not cool or heat the air effectively. In this case, change

the fan speed to Med. or upper.

AIR FLOW VELOCITY AND DIRECTION ADJUSTMENT

AIR FLOW velocity and direction can be selected as required.

• To change the AIR FLOW velocity, press the [_ button.

Each time the button is pressed, the fan speed is changed in sequence:

• Use the ..=11(High) nofch to cool/heat the room mere.

• If the operating sound of the air condi'doner disturbs your sleep, use the

a (Low) notch.

• To change the AIR FLOW blowing direction vertically, press the

Use the swing operation for the airflow to reach all corners of the room

NOTE:

1 hour, the AIR FLOW direction Is automatically set to horizontal to prevent condensed water from dropping.

• AdJuet the vertical AIR FLOW direction using the remote controller. Moving the horzlontal vanes manually can cause

trouble.

• In the heating operutlon, If the air flow temperetu re Is too low or when defroetlng Is being done, the horizontal vane

position Is set to - (1).

When the AUTO mode Is selected with the [_ button, the posiflon of the horizontal vane Is automatically set to

correspond to the operation mode for effective operation.

(1) HEAT: When the air flow temperature is too low. the air is blown out hodzontall_

When the air flow temperature rises, the air is blown out downwards.

(2) COOL, DRY: The air is blown out horizontally.

Use the swing operation for the air flow to reach all corners of the room

Adjust the horizontal AIR FLOW direction using the re-

mote controller, if the VERTICAL VANE Is moved manu-

ally, It may cause trouble.

POWERFUL OPERATION

Use this operation when you want to cool/heat your room within a short time period.

Press the [_ button.

The air conditioner automatically adjusts the fan speed and the set tempera-

ture, and operates the POWERFUL mode. The POWERFUL mode is automati-

cally released 15 minutes after operation starts, and the operation mode re-

turns to the mode prior to POWERFUL operation.

ECONO COOL OPERATION

Use this operation when you want to be comfortable in COOL mode even with energy saved.

• Press the _ button.

When the _ (ECONO COOL) operation is selected in COOL mode, the air

condifloner performs swing opera'don in various cycle according to the tem-

perature of air conditioner.

Also SETTEMPERATURE is aufematically set 4°F higher than in COOL mode.

• Press the _ button again.

What Is "ECONO COOU'?

_ Swing air flow (change of air flow) makes you feel cooler than constant air flow. So, even though the set temperature is

automatically set 4°F higher, it is possible to perform cooling opera'don with keeping comfort. As a result, energy can be saved.

TIMER OPERATION (ON/OFF TIMER)

It is convenient to set the timer when you go to bed, when you get home, when you get up, etc.

] Press the _ button during operation.

Each time the button is pressed, the ON timer mode

alternates between ON and OFF.

]Set the time of the timer using the TIME but-

tons _ (Forward) and _ (Backward).

Each 'dme the _ button is pressed, the set time

increases by 10 minutes; each 'dme the _ button is

pressed, the set time decreases by 10 minutes.

Press the _ button during operation.

Each time the button is pressed, the OFF timer mode

alternates between ON and OFF

] Set the time of the timer using the TIME but-

• Press the _ button.

The ON timer and the OFF timer can be used in combination. The timer of the set time that is reached first will operate first.

("_" mark indicates the order of timer operations.)

• If the current time has not been set, the 'dmer operation cannot be used.

NOTE:

If the main power Is turned off or a power failure occurs while AUTO START/STOP timer Is active, the timer setting Is

cancelled. As these models are equipped with an auto restart function, the air condttloner starts operstlng with timer

cancelled at the same time that power Is restored.

WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER IS NOT GOING TO BE

USED FOR A LONG TIME

] Perform the FAN operation for 3 or 4 hours

to dry the inside of the air conditioner.

To perform FAN operation, set the remote controller to

the highest temperature in the MANUAL COOL mode.

]Turn off the breaker.

z_ CAUTION:

Turn off the breaker when the air conditioner Is not go-

Ing to be used for a long time.

Dirt may collect and this may cause a fire.

] Remove the batteries from the remote con-

troller.

CAUTION:

To prevent liquid leakage, take out all batteries when the

remote controller Is not going to be used for a long time.

] Clean the air filter and install it in the indoor

unit,

(Refer to page 10for cleaninginstructions.)

] Check that the air inlet and outlet of the in-

door/outdoor units are not blocked with any

obstacles.

] Checkthet the ground is conneeted correetly.

/_ CAUTION:

Ground the unit.

Do not connect the ground to a gas pipe, water pipe, light-

ning rod orthe ground of atelephone. Itthe grounding Is

Incorrect, It may cause an electric shock.

MAINTENANCE

• Turn off the breaker.

/_k CAUTION:

When the unit Is to be cleaned, switch It off and turn off

the breaker. Since the tan rotates at high speed during

operstlon, It may cause an Injury.

• Clean the unit using a soft dry cloth.

• If the dirt is noticeable, wipe the unit with a cloth

soaked in a solution of mild detergent diluted in luke-

warm water.

• Do nat use gasoline, benzine, thinner, polishing pow-

der, or insecticide. The unit may be damaged.

• The front panel may also come off If the upper part of the front panel Is pulled down.

• If the front panel comes off, attach it as explained below.

Keeping the front panel level with one hand, insert the hinges one by one with the other hand

into the notches at the left, right and center of the top of the indoor unit until they click into

place. (_))Then, close the front panel. (_)

• Do not step onto an unstable bench when maintaining the unit, etc. This may cause an Injury, etc. If you tall

down.

CLEANING THE AIR FILTER (CATECHIN)

Do not open the front panel up past the level position.

The panel may come off in order to prevent it from being damaged.

] Remove the air filter.

When the air filter Is to be removed, do not touch the

metal parts of the Indoor unit.

This may cause an Injury.

] Remove dirt from the air filter using a vacuum

cleaner or by washing the filter with water.

• If the dirt is noticasble, wash the filtar with a solu-

tion of mild detergent diluted in lukewarm water.

• If hat water (t20°F or more) is used, the filter may

be deformed.

] After washing with water/lukewarm water,

dry the air filter well in the shade.

• Do not expose the air _lter fo direct sunlight or heat

from a fire when drying it

] Install the air filter.
