Overview
Congratulations on your purchase of this Swann LockAlarm! Combining the benefi ts of a security lock
with an alarm system which can be used practically anywhere, this LockAlarm will give you peace of
mind whilst making any potential thieves think twice before messing with your stuff.
Replacing Batteries
The LockAlarm requires 1 x Alkaline 9V battery, which (under typical conditions) will provide reliable
functionality of the LockAlarm for between 3 and 6 months.
To install or change the battery:
Unlock the LockAlarm. The lock body will not open whilst the lock mechanism is fastened, to •
prevent potential thieves from accessing the battery and circuit board.
Locate the two clasps on either end of the LockAlarm. Push in to release, and open the lock •
body.
Using a Phillips-head screwdriver, remove the screw covering the battery compartment.•
If applicable, remove the old battery from the 9V battery clip.•
Connect a fresh alkaline 9V battery into the battery clip and insert into battery compartment.•
Replace the battery compartment cover and secure in place with the screw, and replace the top •
of the main casing.
Usage Guidelines
This device is a • powerful theft deterrent; however, it is not foolproof. Like all practical systems,
it has limitations and could be disabled or circumvented by a skilled thief. Thus, we suggest not
relying solely on the LockAlarm to protect your property, rather use it as part of a comprehensive
security solution, perhaps involving other alarms, locks and/or recording devices.
If the LockAlarm is being used “stand-alone” (i.e. you haven’t mounted it on anything) then you’ll •
need to run the cable around or through something that’s fi xed in position (a post, wall, fence or
similar) - otherwise, a thief need only pick up your property and the LockAlarm at once!
Change your batteries regularly. Nothing would compare to the pain of them failing when you •
need them the most! We suggest that every 6 months is a good interval to replace the battery.
Use only alkaline batteries – do not use rechargeable batteries! Rechargeable battery chemistries •
(such as NiMH or NiCd) only produce about 1.2V per cell, whereas alkaline batteries put out the
full 1.5V. This makes a noticeable difference to the reliability of the alarm, and to the volume of
the siren.
If the LockAlarm makes a clicking noise when activated, this indicates that the batteries don’t have •
enough charge to run the alarm. Replace the batteries immediately.
The siren is loud, but may have diffi culty competing with exceptionally noisy environments such •
as near a venue with live music, a loud highway or busy urban environment. In these cases, bear
in mind that you may not be able to hear the siren sound at a distance.
The LockAlarm is weather resistant, but it’s not totally weather proof. It will probably be okay if •
exposed to light rain for short periods. However, if left out for an extended period, or in heavy rain,
monsoons, hurricanes, tornados, meteorite impacts or other “serious” weather phenomenon, it’s
not going to work so well any more... if at all.
If the LockAlarm is to be left outside for a long period of time, wrap it in clear plastic or install it in •
a sheltered location. You’ll get much longer life out of your battery if it’s kept dry!

How it Works
The cable of the LockAlarm has a low voltage electrical charge running through it. This electrical charge
is so low that it is totally harmless and barely drains the battery. However, by detecting any interruption
of this electrical charge, the LockAlarm can detect when the cable has been cut or otherwise damaged,
causing the alarm to sound at full volume.
Installation Guide
If you’re going to be using the LockAlarm in a fi xed position, we suggest that you should attach it to
a solid surface (bricks, concrete or hardwood are all good options). Alternately, if there’s a convenient
pole, thick pipe or similar circular mount available, use the U-bracket if you’d prefer.
To mount the LockAlarm on a wall or other fl at surface:
Position the bracket onto the wall in the position you want to mount the LockAlarm.1.
Using the holes in the brackets as a guide, mark the locations on your wall for the screws.2.
If you’re mounting the lock onto brickwork or other masonry, use a 1/4” (6mm) drill bit, and 3.
insert the wall plugs (included). For wooden surfaces, use a 1/8” (3mm) drill bit (wall plugs are
not required).
Remove the top cover of the lock. See the battery replacement instructions for how to do this. If 4.
you haven’t yet installed the battery, now is a really good time to do it.
Secure the bracket to the wall with the two short screws, into the holes you’ve just prepared. 5.
Ensure these screws are screwed in fi rmly.
Attach the lock body to the wall bracket using the two long screws, as shown in the diagram. 6.
Like the short screws, ensure these are fully tightened.
Replace the top cover of the LockAlarm.7.
If you want to use the U-bracket to mount the LockAlarm on a pole, rail or similar:
Position the U-bracket in the location you want to mount the alarm.1.
Remove the top cover of the lock. See the battery replacement instructions for how to do this. If 2.
you haven’t yet installed the battery, now is a really good time to do it.
Attach the lock body to the U-bracket using the two long screws. Ensure these are fully 3.
tightened.
Replace the top cover of the LockAlarm.4.
