How to Register V310 with Your SIP Server
Scenario: Following is a sample topology for a small or medium enterprise. Two V310s are connected to ZyXEL ISG50 (SIP Server) through
ZyXEL ES-3124(switch).
There are basically three ways to register your V310 to the SIP Server:
A. Register your V310 through Auto-Provision (Plug-and-Play)
B. Register from GUI (Graphical User Interface)
C. Register Your V310 from Your Keypad

Register Your V310 through Auto-Provision
Auto-Provision is a Plug and Play function. This function was designed to save your time on configuring your V310, especially when you
are installing a large number of SIP phones. The only thing you need to do is to enter the MAC address of your V310 into your ZyXEL ISG50;
once V310 is plugged in, it would be automatically configured and registered.
**Note that ISG50 supports auto provision of V310, but it does not mean V310 can be auto-configured by all IP PBXs. The PBX must use
XML as its configuration file format; otherwise, V310 wont be able to process the configuration file.
Please follow the steps below to complete the Auto-Provision settings:
Step 1: Connect to your ISG50 GUI Under CONFIGURATION PBX Auto Provision Auto Provision Tab Check Enable Auto
Provision.
Step 2: Select the extension that you wish to configure; for example, 85001 Edit fill in your MAC Address select ZyXEL V310 OK.
Step 3: Plug in your V310 into the ISG50 LAN port or into the switch that is connected to ISG50 LAN port Wait for 30 seconds V310
should be automatically registered.
Done! You are free to make calls now.

Phone Book and Firmware Upgrade
Auto Provision does not just automatically register your phone; it also downloads the phone book and firmware upgrade info from ISG50.
Following is an example of a phone book downloaded through auto provision:
Under Phone Set Phone Book, users can see extensions created on ISG50 are downloaded to V310s phone book. Therefore, when
the user dials a number, V310 will display the name of that extension. For example, if you dial 7788, Darren will be displayed on the
phones display as in the following figure.
In addition, users can flip between pages by using the phone book page dropdown menu.
To upgrade phones firmware, users have two options:
1. Auto Upgrade
2. Manual Upgrade
6
1. Auto Upgrade:
Once V310 is auto-configured through the Auto-Provision.
On ISG50:
On V310: the phone will receive the firmware upgrade path through auto provision. Blanks in Auto Configuration and Firmware
Upgrade tabs will be automatically filled with an HTTP IP address.
7
2. Manual Upgrade: There are two modes that users can choose from
Soft Upgrade and Force Upgrade
A. Soft Upgrade: This method is for users who want to upload the new firmware to V310 directly from their PC or laptop.
Step 1: Click on Browse to select the Firmware file you wish to upload.
Step 2: Select the Disc Image File.
Step 3: Click on Open to confirm.
Step 4: Click on Submit to start uploading and renewing the firmware.
8
B. Forced Upgrade:
By turning ON this function, your V310 will reach the designated HTTP server to download the new firmware once
the user hits Submit. Next, the phone will reboot, and the firmware will be downloaded and upgraded. Users can see
the downloading and upgrading progress in both the Internet browser and the phone screen.
Step 1: Turn ON the Force Upgrade
Step 2: Fill up the HTTP URL
Step 3: Click on OK to start downloading and renewing the firmware.
**Please note that if the original file name of the firmware is V310_1.00AABT.0B5.img, it is not necessary to enter
.img in the URL box; http://10.59.1.37/V310_1.00AABT.0B5 is the full path.
9
The Difference Between *.hdr and *.img File Format:
You may have noticed that the HTTP IP Address entered on the ISG50 does not include a file format; this means that the V310 will firstly
check the *.hdr file; by doing this, the V310 compares the current firmware version with the version on the server to decide whether an
upgrade is necessary. If the V310 finds that its current version is outdated, the phone would download the *.img file to upgrade its
firmware.

Manually SIP Subscription
Above is a sample topology for a small or medium enterprise. When the SIP Server is located at the headquarters, we can rely on Manual
SIP Subscription to have V310s gone through NAT and get automatically configured. V310 will receive all necessary information including
the SIP Account, phone book, and the firmware update HTTP path; just as if the phone was located on ISG50 LAN Network.
Please follow the steps below to enter the IP Address of the ISG located at the headquarters.
Under the Maintenance Auto Provision, please fill in the IP Address of your ISG50 located at the headquarters.
In addition, the phone book will be automatically updated.
11
Also, we can see that V310 will be automatically configured after the reboot. V310 will periodically send SUBSCRIBE SIP packets to the SIP
Server for synchronization.

What is the Benefit of the PC Port?
Rear Panel of V310
Connecting both the V310 and PC to the network via separate cable will consume extra switch ports and installing cabling; by
connecting your PC or laptop to the PC port on the rear panel of V310, you can save a switch port for another network device.
You can choose from the following two modes for PC port on V310:
1. NAT Mode
2. Bridge Mode
