Operating instructions
1. Preparation
1-1. Connecting the probe
Insert the probe plug of the probe into the probe connector of the main unit.
Align the connector keyway to the plug guide and lightly push in until it makes a clicking sound to fix.
1-2. Power switch ON
Insert the plug of the accessorized AC adaptor into AC adaptor connector of the back face of AC adaptor.
Connect AC adaptor to the socket(AC100~240V).
Switch Power source ON to emit abeeping sound and indicate UUU」と「μm」 on display.
Leave the state as it is for about 3 min to wait for the stability of the circuit.
1-3. How to load weight
Place the accessorized 100 g weight on the weight guide of the probe ⑩.When this weight is always in use,
fix the weight with double-sided adhesive tape. The measurements can be taken under the perfect pressure
condition by burdening the weight on the arm of the probe.
2.Adjustments
2-1. Zeroing
Make sure that the HOLD button of the main unit is OFF (green lamp on the upper side of the
HOLD button is OFF), and press the probe on the accessorized Zero plate (standard ferrous plate for test)
(placing 100 g weight on the probe and turn Zero adjustment dial so that a numeric value on the Digital
Display can become 「0 (zero)」. It is OK that a measurement value become in the neighborhood of 「0」.
when pressing the probe plural times on Zero plate.
2-2. Calibration standard
Press an accessorized standard plate on the Zero plate and place the aforementioned probe on the
standard plate.
Turn standard calibration dial so that a numerical value indicated on Digital display can become a numerical
value displayed on Thickness standard. (Zeroing/Standard calibration dials are equipped with a lock function. A
press-down of the pick on the upper right activates a lock function)
Repeat the above mentioned operation 2-1, 2-2 a few times and adjust so that both can obtain stable displays.
3. Measurement
3-1. Take measurement after completing the abovementioned adjustments. Place measuring objects (screen, resist,
film, sheet, foils, paper, etc.) on the adjusted Zero plate and furthermore, place the probe on that object.
The numerical value on Digital display is the thickness of the measured object.
3-2. Measurement with a hold function
After adjusting, press Hold buttongreen light is ON, when measuring, a numerical value
is held/displayed with a 「beep」 sound. The display does no change if the probe is released.
A press again of the probe hold/displays a new measured value with a 「beep」 sound.
When adjusting, never fail to press this button and make sure that Hold is OFF(green light is OFF).
Do not press strongly like smashing to measuring objects by the probe.
Or, it may cause of the breakdown of the probe or damage measuring objects.
Scrape by the probe the surface of the measuring objects.
Or, it may quicken the abrasion of electrodes and damage measuring objects.
-5-
3-3. Measurement in a screen process
When measuring the thickness of a printing film (resist), firstly measure the thickness of a screen itself,
then measure the combined thickness of a screen and a resist. The thickness of the resist can be obtained
by subtracting the thickness of a screen.
Measurement example
Thickness of a screen only ; 70μm Combined thicknesses of a screen and a resist ; 120μm
◆the thickness of the resist only ;120 – 70 50μm
.Completion of measurement
After completing measurement, switch Power source to OFF ⑦.
Hold the outer tube of the probe plug ⑨, and slowly pull it inward to remove the probe from the main unit.
Be sure of pulling off by holding the outer tube of the probe. Or, it may cause a breakdown to pull off
by holding the probe cord. Remove AC adaptor from the socket and pull off the plug from the main unit.
Transferring data
It is possible to transfer data to an optional printer by connecting the cable to PRINTER connector on the rear of
the main un it.
Transferring measured data.
Connect the main unit to the printer by the exclusive printer cable.
Switch the main unit and the printer to ON.
Switch HOLD button to ON. (blue color lamp lighting up).
Whenever measurement is taken, the buzzer 「beeps」 and
data is transferred to the printer.
※Data is not transferred when the HOLD button is set to OFF.
-6-
Caution
When inserting or pulling off the probe, switch Power source to OFF.
Inserting or pulling off the probe with Power source ON may cause a breakdown to the main
unit and the probe.

Note to improve measuring accuracy
Zero plate (standard ferrous plate for test)
If Zero plates used for Zeroing/Calibration standard (CAL) are soft irons, they can be used.
It is not necessary to use accessorized Zero plates
When using Zero plate except accessorized one, select one under the following standards.
Uniform surface treatment with thicknesses of 3~5mm or over
Fewer differences of reading depending on places on Zero plate
No rust or scratches on the plate
Thickness standard
Take Calibration standard measurements (CAL) using a Thickness standard which is thicker or as thick
as the measuring films.
※Use of a calibration standard with a deviant thickness may cause errors.
Replace worn-out or bent plates with new ones. In case non-accessorized plates are necessary
(over 16μm), contact a local sales office.
Quality of films to be measured
In case magnetic metals are contained in the films, the measurement cannot be correctly.
taken. In case of measuring elastic films, place a standard plate of 30~50 μm thick on the object and subtract
the thickness from the measuring value to avoid errors caused by elastic dents.
Measurement near edges or angles
Magnetic fields in the neighborhood of the edges/the angles of a measuring object become uneven. 15~20 mm
closer part to the center of the object shall generally be measured. Pay attention to protruded part, curved part
or unexpectedly deformed part.
Measurement of rough faces
Roughness of a substrate, a measuring face affects measuring results.
Take a mean value by measuring several places at a time.
Measurement of stretched part on faces
In some case stretched, rolled part occurred on a substrate, which may cause measuring errors.
Take a mean value by measuring several places at a time.
Temperature
Operating temperature range is 0~40 ℃. Especially, large temperature differences between a main unit
and a probe cause measuring errors.
Residual magnetism, stray magnetic fields
Pay attention to transportation method of electromagnets, residual magnetism on substrates or arc welding,
those of which emit strong magnetic fields to cause measuring errors.

Reference
(Principle of measurements)
Electro-Magnetic Induction type (Electromagnetic Type)
When iron (ferrous metals) approaches to the tip of the coil built-in core, the inductance of the coils changes
in response to changes of the approaching distances. Electromagnetic Type coating thickness meters take
measurements of thicknesses of coating films by using this technical Principle and taking out the changes of
the distances in state of electric signals.
