The image of a weather system off the coast of the Western US (left), acquired on October 4, 2003, is from
the NOAA-15 satellite’s afternoon pass.
The image at the top right shows the radome that encloses a 1.5m antenna located at the Universidad de la
Laguna, Tenerife in the Canary Islands, Spain.
The image of the Southern California fires (bottom right) is clearly visible from this NOAA-17 satellite pass,
acquired on October 27, 2003.

How to Contact Customer Support at SeaSpace
If you experience problems with your TeraScan system or have questions concerning TeraScan, you can
contact Customer Support by telephone or fax or via the Internet at the following addresses.
SeaSpace Corporation Tel: (858) 746-1160
13000 Gregg St., Suite A Fax: (858) 746-1199
Poway, CA 92064, USA Internet: support@seaspace.com
Customer Support will best be able to help you if you provide them with information about your system.
To gather this information, run the TeraScan script tscaninfo to query the system for the following
information: TeraScan base packages (and version numbers) installed, and platform information such as
operating system, hostname and hostid, bus type, and time since the system was last rebooted.
You should also be prepared to provide Customer Support with any error message associated with the
problem you are experiencing and all standard output and any standard error associated with the technique
you are using.
For a problem concerning data acquisition, include verbatim output of the corresponding
$PASSDIR/schedlog.html file, $PASSDIR/logfiles/pgs/* files, $PASSDIR/logfiles/mtrack/* files and
$PASSDIR/logfiles/*antenna* files.
For additional information, run tscaninfo full to display the same information as tscaninfo plus a list of all
TeraScan packages installed, TeraScan licensing information, last update date for orbital elements (lastoes),
a list of passes on the pass disk (lspass), the acquisition schedule (listsched), TeraScan environment variable
settings, user environment (path, LD_LIBRARY_PATH), user information, disk information
(df -k), and network information.
The best thing to do is to redirect all output to a file and attach the file to an e-mail message.

1.4 CONVENTIONS USED IN THIS MANUAL
This manual includes procedures that require the user to enter UNIX commands. These commands are shown
on a separate line in bold courier type at a command-line prompt (such as %). To enter a command, type in the
bolded words, then press the Return key (or Enter key). A <Return> placed at the end of a command line is
there to remind you to press the Return key (or Enter key).
Some commands include variable arguments shown in italic courier type that you must replace with a specific
value. For example, in the command, ac chain pos you must substitute chain with a telemetry chain
number.
1.5 TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
The 1.5m three-axis tracking antenna provides real-time data acquisition from satellites in a polar orbit. The
antenna subsystem consists of the following components (as shown in drawing 70909001 on page 3).
1.5.1 Outdoor Equipment
(see drawing 70909004 on page 27)
a. 1.5m dish mounted on a positioner. This is the tracking antenna.
Two models of antenna are included in this manual:
Model 6003AL: Three servo amplifiers are integrated in the PCU enclosure.
Model 6003L: Three servo amplifiers are mounted on the antenna separate from the PCU.
b. The antenna is mounted inside a protective fiberglass radome. There are two types of radomes:
1) The radome is mounted on a base frame.
2) The radome mounts to the top of a round plate on a pedestal.
c. Mounted at the focal point of the dish is an RHCP feed receiving L-Band or L & S-Bands, one or two
low-noise amplifiers (LNAs), and one or two downconverters.
d. The positioner is controlled by a Pedestal Control Unit (PCU).
e. Power is supplied to the antenna via the antenna control cable from the computer.
f. A coaxial cable connects the antenna to the inside equipment. The IF signal is sent through the
antenna cable to the receiver. Commands from the computer are sent through the antenna cable to
the antenna PCU.
1.5.2 Indoor Equipment
a. For systems with an HR300 or TR100/TR101 receiver, the IF signal from the antenna is split off from
the antenna control cable.
b. The antenna tracking commands are sent to the PCU from the computer.

1.5.3 Telemetries Received
The Antenna System is capable of receiving the following telemetries (using a suitable receiver):
HRPT telemetry from NOAA/TIROS series satellites (L-band antenna).
CHRPT telemetry from FY-1C and FY-1D satellites (L-band antenna).
SWHRPT telemetry from the Orbview-2 satellite (L-band antenna).
RTD telemetry from DMSP series satellites (S-band antenna).
WindSat telemetry from Coriolis satellite (S-band antenna)
LRIT telemetry from geostationary satellites (L-band antenna).
